Eoin was goalkeeper on Tipperary’s minor hurling panel at just 15 years old and was named Young Hurler of the Year in 2001 and 2002. Eoin is only behind Kilkenny’s Henry Shefflin and Eddie Keher in the all-time championship scorer’s list with 21 goals and 368 points. Only Brendan Cummins has played more championship games for Tipperary. Eoin was regarded as one of the greatest forwards to ever play for Tipperary and was one of the greatest players of his generation.

GAA Referee Recruitment Committee
Sean Nugent Chairman of Tipperary County board in 2014 set up a Referee Recruitment committee for Tipperary. This is the first such committee in the Country. Its aim is to put a plan in place to meet refereeing needs within the Premier County in the future. This new committee is being chaired by John Lonergan with representatives from each of the four Divisions . With over four thousand games being played in our county on an annual basis, the role of the referee is a very important cog of the wheel to ensure all games take place. The role of the committee is to ensure we have sufficient referees to meet the demands in the county . The Referee recruitment has been busy during the year with the aim to ensure we have sufficient numbers to run the new referee’s course in February 2015. A major PR campaign both on media, radio, social media and through clubs was undertaken to ensure that all are ware that we urgently need new referees on board. Clubs without an active referee were also targeted to provide a suitable candidate for the upcoming course. The referee recruitment committee also has been sanctioned to have responsibility of the new referees for a period of 1 year after the referee course foundation course to ensure that they are supported and encouraged and fostered into the new set up. If you want to get involved or know someone interested in becoming a referee from 2015, please contact any of the recruitment committee or your club secretary or Co Board officer. the recruitment committee or your club secretary or Co Board officer. A referee’s course will be organised in early 2015.

Tipperary GAA Yearbook 2015
The Tipperary GAA Yearbook is now on sale. This year’s book which is in full colour contains 176 pages and one of the highlights of the book is the extensive use of photographs. It gives a comprehensive review of all the happenings on the various fronts during 2014. The exploits of our senior hurlers and footballers are recalled. There are the usual reviews of the divisional championships at adult and Bord na nÓg level. Cumann na mBunscoil, Post Primary schools and Third Level Colleges activities receive appropriate coverage. The Ladies Football section includes articles on Tipperary’s All Ireland Minor and Under 16 double. Tipperary’s All Ireland Under 16 Camogie success is also reviewed. The activities for the year in Handball and Scór are all included.

In the Awards Section our All Star hurlers Darren Gleeson, Brendan Maher, Padraic Maher, Shane McGrath, Patrick Maher, John O’Dwyer, Seamus Callanan, and Young Hurler of the Year, Cathal Barrett are given prominence as well as other people honoured throughout the county during the year. The yearbook includes articles on Tipperary’s All Ireland senior hurling double in 1964/1965 and Tipperary’s victory in the first All Ireland Under 21 hurling championship in 1964.
Scoreboard 2014 gives the results of both club and inter-county championships. The popular Yearbook quiz is included with an attractive first prize of a Tipperary GAA Inter-County and Club Season ticket.
The Tipperary GAA Yearbook is an excellent publication and will give many hours of enjoyment from reading it to our Gaels at home and abroad over the Christmas period. The Yearbook retails at 10 Euro and is available at the usual outlets throughout the county.

Scór na nÓg 2014-Craobh an Chontae
The County Final of Scór na nÓg will take place on Friday night 12th December in Holycross Community Hall. A great nights entertainment is guaranteed with all 4 divisions being represented in the competitions. Scoth den cheol, den rince, den amhránaíocht agus den drámaíocht a bheidh á léiriú ar an stáitse and the draws are now finalised. A change in the order of competition will be necessary-please contact your Scór divisional secretary for details. We would very much appreciate your support on the night to encourage na déagóirí breátha seo .Well done to all those involved in the recent semi-finals and as always we encourage clubs to think about their full participation in the upcoming Scór na bPáistí competitions.

We have recently lost 2 very fine Scór stalwarts-namely Paddy Cooney and Geraldine Floyd. Paddy and his wife Josie were involved in all levels of Scór, bringing not only County and Provincial but All Ireland Honours to Tipperary. He and his family’s contribution to community, club and county in GAA and Scór activities was indicative of the great love he had for all things uniquely Irish. Indeed his club Moycarkey-Borris will be represented on Friday night sa chomórtas seite and no doubt his spirit of participation and contribution lives on. Geraldine embodied also that great spirit of community that makes someone a very special person. She was a pivotal member of the Newport Ballad Group, whose beautiful melodies we will always remember as they took to the stage in Derry in the All Ireland Finals of 2013. A lady whose enthusiasm for life was infectious and whose example like Paddy’s of great selflessness will always be a source of comfort to Family and Friends alike. I bPárthas na nGrást go raibh an bheirt acu.
