MUNSTER JUNIOR B HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Congratulations to Eire Óg Annacarty Donohill who qualified for the Munster Junior B Hurling Final following their 3-12 to 0-14 win over Dunhill of Waterford after extra-time last Sunday in Killeedy. Éire Óg will meet either Shanballymore (Cork) or Broadford (Clare) in the final.

DECEMBER GAA CLUBS DRAW
The December Tipperary GAA Draw will be held this Friday night December 11th in Ryan’s Lounge, Cork Road, Newport in conjunction with the presentation of the €15,000 star November prize to Dermot Boland, Rockvale, Newport. It promises to be a great night as the Newport “Tradfest” is also on that weekend so a feast of traditional music is guaranteed.
TIPPERARY GAA YEARBOOK 2016
The Tipperary G.A.A. Yearbook 2016 is now available in the bookshops and usual outlets. Published annually since 1970 it is an outstanding record of the achievements of club and county in all aspects of the G.A.A. Whereas the main focus of people’s interests may be on hurling and football, camogie and ladies football, the book also tells the complete story of achievements in Scór, handball, Bord na nÓg and other areas of G.A.A. activities.
It is a huge compendium of information that strives to be the complete reference work on the G.A.A. in the county. For instance the section, County Teams 2015, by John Smith includes the lineout of every team that represented the county in all grades of hurling and football during 2015. There is a great reference section for all the results in the Scoreboard 2015 section by Ed Donnelly.
One of the most read sections of the book is, Friends We Lost, obituary notices of the many Gaels who passed away during the past year. And they were many. They include Tony Reddin, Jimmy Doyle, Tomás Ó Baróid, Ray Reidy, Dom Browne, Tom ‘Senator’ Murphy and Jackie Griffin, to name just a few.
The Yearbook always carries a number of feature articles and Seamus Leahy is always a regular in this field. He doesn’t disappoint this year with his account of the 1916 All-Ireland, won by a Boherlahan Selection in January 1917.
Another excellent feature is an article by Pat Bracken in which he presents new evidence on the state of hurling prior to the foundation of the G.A.A. It challenges the accepted view that the game was on its last legs when Michael Cusack revived it.
Finally the Yearbook includes an outstanding selection of photographs which illustrate the stories and gives shape and colour to the boys and girls, men and women that feature in them.
And, all this, 200 pages, for €10 – a must have on every Tipperary Christmas shopping list.
MUNSTER HURLING AND FOOTBALL PANELS
Though weather played havoc with the weekend fixtures seven Tipperary players were selected on the Munster hurling panel for the inter-provincial semi-final also against Leinster and included Padraic Maher captain (Thurles Sarsfields), Cathal Barrett (Holycross Ballycahill), James Barry (Upperchurch Drombane), Kieran Bergin (Killenaule), Darren Gleeson (Portroe), Patrick Maher (Lorrha Dorrha) and John O’Dwyer (Killenaule). Tommy Dunne (Toomevara) is also a selector with the panel.
The Munster football panel for the inter-provincial semi-final against Leinster was also announced which included three Tipperary players who are Peter Acheson (Moyle Rovers), Steven O’Brien (Ballina) and Michael Quinlivan (Clonmel Commercials). Re-fixture details of the semi-finals to be confirmed after the next CCCC meeting on January 12, 2016.

POST PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Results in round 4 of the Dr. Harty Cup which took place last Wednesday, saw Nenagh C.B.S. knock out holders Thurles C.B.S. on a score of 4-18 to 0-14. Our Lady’s Secondary School Templemore defeated PS Youghal 4-31 to 1-09 while High School Clonmel drew with St Flannans 3-15 to 4-12.
Elsewhere, in the Croke Cup U/15 (A) Hurling Final it was honours even as two Thurles C.B.S. teams finished up all square 2-12 to 3-09.
Meanwhile on last Friday, in the Hennessy Cup U/15 (B) Hurling Semi-Final the final score was Borrisokane C.C 6-04 Presentation Ballingarry 4-05. Also on Friday the Sciath Mhic Gabhann U/18.5 (B) Football quarter-final results were Colaiste Cluain Meala 8-08 Colaiste Mhuire Durlas 1-08 and Nenagh C.B.S. 1-10 Rockwell College 0-12.
Tipperary fixtures for this week include the Hennessy Cup U/15 (B) Hurling Final this Friday December 11th in Templetuohy where Scoil Ruain Killenaule meet Borrisokane C.C. at 12.30pm.
Also on Friday in the Corn Mhic Gabhann U/18.5 (A) Football semi-final in Sean Treacy Park, Abbey C.B.S take on High School Clonmel at 1pm. While on Thursday December 10th in the Sciath Mhic Gabhann U/18.5 (B) Football semi-final in Nenagh, Nenagh C.B.S. meet Colaiste Cluain Meala at 12.30pm.

MUNSTER INTER-FIRMS HURLING
Commiserations to Clancy Construction, Drangan who were knocked out of the Munster Junior Inter-Firms Hurling Championship in their semi-final clash by Zimmer from Clare in U.L. last Thursday night on a score line of 2-14 to 1-09. With players from Moycarkey Borris, Drom & Inch, Boherlahan Dualla, Templederry Kenyons, Thurles Sarsfields and Ballingarry as well as from counties Cork, Limerick, Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford they can be proud of their achievements in this their inaugural year in the championship.
YOUTH AFFAIRS
Congratulations to Borrisoleigh winners of the 2015 County Final of the Primary Schools Table Quiz which was held in Thurles Sarsfields Social Centre on Saturday evening last with 18 teams taking part. The runners up was Monastery, Tipperary Town, in third place Holycross, with Newport A in fourth followed by Newport B in fifth and all prizes were sponsored by Centenary Thurles Co Op. Co. Board Chairman Michael Bourke thanked all who took part and also the teachers and other adults who coached the teams.
LADIES FOOTBALL
Commiserations to the Cahir ladies who had a narrow defeat to Milltown from Westmeath in the All-Ireland Ladies Intermediate Club Football Final last weekend with the final score reading Cahir 2-12 Milltown 2-14.
CLUB PUBLICATIONS
It’s the time of year for club newsletter publications and two requested for mention are firstly Moycarkey Borris’ Club Newsletter back on sale again this year. It gives a full round up of the year’s affairs with particular focus on success at underage level where at U16 the club won the county hurling title after a break of 41 years. The 72 page production is full of detailed accounts of the clubs activities during the past year with many colourful photographs capturing the events of 2015 and is on sale locally for €8.
The Roscrea Hurling club’s Annual Newsletter ‘A Year in the Red’ will be launched this Thursday, December 10th and will be on sale locally, from Friday morning. Running to 20 pages with an impressive array of colour and black and white photographs, this is the 11th edition, which covers all levels of activity in the club from under 6 to Senior. There is also coverage of games in the Schools, Inane Rovers Gaelic Football activities, a feature on Tipp Minor Hurler and Footballer Alan Tynan, whose grandfather, Joe Tynan, is featured in the Red Hero of the past article. The club Chairman and Secretary summarise the year from their perspectives, while the four appreciation award winners are honoured in verse and deserve to have their significant contributions acknowledged. The club’s Co. Junior Hurling title win in 1986 – the last before 2015- is the nostalgia piece, with the team photograph bringing back many memories. Retailing at only €4, this publication which has page sponsorship rather than advertisements is a must have for Roscrea hurling followers, past or present.
HEALTH & WELLBEING AWARENESS NIGHT
St. Marys Hurling Club in conjunction with South Tipperary Mental Health Consumer Panel present “Sport in Mind” on this Wednesday night December 9th, at 8pm in the GAA Centre, Western Road, Clonmel.
The event will consist of invited speakers addressing topics such as wellbeing, stigma reduction, sport psychology and the emotional experiences of elite sports people. Guest speakers on the night will include Kelley Lee (See Change ambassador), Jackie Cahill (journalist, author and sports psychology graduate), Brendan Cummins (former Tipperary goalkeeper) and John Lonergan (Ex. Mountjoy Governor and author).
This event is free of charge and is open to members of the public who are over 15 years of age. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome, enquiries please to St Marys GAA Club.
