TIPPERARY SENIOR HURLING MANAGEMENT

As all GAA followers are well aware by now, the Tipperary senior hurling management team of Mick Ryan, Declan Fanning, John Madden and Conor Stakelum stepped down from their position last Thursday afternoon following the team’s exit from this year’s championship. All four are sincerely thanked for their total dedication and commitment over the past 3 years.

Each has given tremendous service as players firstly as All-Ireland medal winners, culminating together in a management capacity where a huge outpouring of joy and celebration in 2016 echoed around Croke Park and all the way back to the Premier County and beyond when Tipperary were crowned All-Ireland winners. A one point loss to Galway scuppered a chance of back to back titles last year, while ‘inches’ were the margin of error this year which ultimately cost Tipp a chance of a prolonged summer in what has been a fantastic 2018 hurling championship.

As we salute and bid a fond farewell to these men who will now join the Tipperary supporters in the stands, the mission to unearth their successors will commence.

POC FADA

There was success for Tipperary last weekend in the MD Sports myclubshop.ie All-Ireland Poc Fada Finals on the Cooley Mountains. Congratulations to Kyle Shelly (Moycarkey-Borris) (right) representing Tipperary and Munster as he won the U16 competition with 22 poc’s, 2 ahead of his nearest competitor.

In the senior competition Brendan Cummins (Ballybacon-Grange) (left with Kyle) was once again in second place on 50 just 2 behind the overall winner Cillian Kiely from Offaly. Tipperary’s other representative was Mike Flannery (Newport) who qualified as Munster runner up and Mike finished on 56 poc’s. (Photo’s courtesy Mary Shelly)

CAMOGIE

A main highlight last weekend ensured congratulations to the Tipperary senior camogie team as they overcame Waterford 1-14 to 1-7 in the Liberty Insurance Senior Championship All-Ireland Quarter Final to qualify for the semi-final against Cork. This match will form part of a double header which will be played in Semple Stadium, on Saturday week, August 18th.

Player of the match was Tipperary captain Orla O’Dwyer, well done Orla on an excellent performance.

Congratulations also to the Tipperary intermediate team who topped their group by overwhelming Kildare 7-26 to 2-04 in their Liberty Insurance Championship and are also through to the semi-final.
