FBD Insurance County Leagues

County Football League

Congratulations to Moyle Rovers who claimed the FBD Insurance County Football League Division 1 title last Saturday evening in New Inn with a 4-15 to 1-19 victory over Golden Kilfeacle in the Final. Golden Kilfeacle made the brighter start and raced into a 0-4 to 0-0 lead in the opening minutes. However, a fourth minute goal from Dean English helped Moyle Rovers settle into the contest. Golden continued to get the better for much of the opening quarter and led by three points, 0-9 to 1-3, after 18 minutes thanks to some excellent shooting. A goal from Jake Forristal brought Moyle Rovers level on 19 minutes but Golden Kilfeacle responded well and finished the half strongly to take a 0-15 to 2-5 advantage into the break. Golden maintained their lead until midway through the second half when a Liam Boland two pointer drew the sides level. The decisive moment arrived seven minutes from time when Dean English struck for his second goal of the game to put Moyle Rovers two points in front. Moyle Rovers strengthened their grip on the contest when Shane Foley added another goal two minutes later. Golden Kilfeacle managed a late consolation goal through Niall Heffernan but Moyle Rovers held firm to secure the league title. Following the final whistle, Moyle Rovers captain Cian O’Sullivan accepted the cup on behalf of his victorious team.

Well done to Grangemockler Ballyneale who claimed the FBD Insurance County Football League Division 2 title last Wednesday evening in Ballingarry following a 1-11 to 2-6 Final victory over Moyne Templetuohy. Moyne Templetuohy made the perfect start with an early goal from Conor Campion in the opening minutes. The sides were level at 1-2 apiece after the first quarter with Grangemockler Ballyneale responding through a Sean Daly goal. The south side then stretched their advantage to 1-5 to 1-2 after twenty minutes before Moyne Templetuohy found the net again three minutes later through Finn Jones to level the game once more. A further point before half time gave Moyne Templetuohy a narrow 2-3 to 1-5 lead at the break. Grangemockler Ballyneale made the ideal start to the second half, regaining the lead with two early points. They continued to build momentum and had stretched their advantage to five points midway through the half at 1-11 to 2-3. Although they failed to score in the final quarter they held out for victory despite a spirited late challenge from Moyne Templetuohy. Following the game, Grangemockler Ballyneale captain Sean Daly accepted the cup on behalf of his team after leading his side to the Division 2 league title.
