2026 FBD Insurance County Football Championships
Round 3 of the FBD Insurance County Football Championships took place over the last week with the placings for the knockout stages and relegation battle now determined.
Senior
Group 1: Clonmel Commercials topped Group 1 following victory over Aherlow who finish bottom of the group. Ardfinnan secured a place in the Quarter Finals with victory over Ballina whose season is now finished.

Group 2: Kilsheelan Kilcash completed the group stages with three wins from three following victory over Ballyporeen. JK Brackens secured a Knockout Football place in second following an impressive win over Mid rivals Thurles Sarsfields.
Group 3: Another clash of Mid rivals saw Loughmore Castleiney defeat Upperchurch Drombane with Loughmore progressing to the Quarter Finals. Table toppers Moyle Rovers continued their good form with victory over Grangemockler Ballyneale.
With the group stages now concluded Clonmel Commercials and Kilsheelan Kilcash progress directly to the Semi Finals finishing as the two highest ranked group winners ahead of Moyle Rovers on scoring difference.
Moyle Rovers will face Ardfinnan in the Quarter Finals with JK Brackens facing Loughmore Castleiney in the second Quarter final. In terms of relegation, Ballyporeen face Grangemockler Ballyneale in the Relegation Semi Final with the loser going on to face Aherlow in the Relegation Final. Aherlow go straight into the Final as the lowest ranked of the three bottom placed teams, based on scoring difference. The loser of the Relegation Final will be relegated to the Intermediate grade for 2027.
Intermediate
Group 1: Fethard topped Group 1 with a last minute score against Rockwell Rovers who finish second. Cahir’s victory over Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill was not enough to secure progression with the South side finishing third.
Group 2: Killenaule made it three wins from three with victory over Clonmel Óg. Moyne Templetuohy secured second place and a Quarter Final spot after a strong second half performance saw them overcome Clonmel Commercials.
Group 3: Golden Kilfeacle topped Group 3 following a comprehensive victory over Moycarkey Borris. Galtee Rovers St Pecaun’s secured a Quarter Final place with a one point victory over Arravale Rovers.
As the top two ranked group winners Killenaule and Golden Kilfeacle progress directly to the Semi Finals. The Quarter Final line up sees Galtee Rovers St Pecaun’s face Rockwell Rovers and Moyne Templetuohy take on Fethard.
Clonmel Óg face Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill in the Relegation Semi Final with the loser facing Moycarkey Borris in the Relegation Final. The loser of the Final will compete in the Premier Junior grade in 2027.
Premier Junior
Group 1: Carrick Swan topped the group following victory over Sean Treacys. Borrisokane got the better of LoughmoreCastleiney while CJ Kickhams Mullinahone finished second after receiving a walkover from JK Brackens.
Group 2: Moyle Rovers finished second in the group after receiving a walkover from Clonoulty Rossmore, who finish bottom. Fr Sheehy’s topped the group.
Carrick Swan and CJ Kickhams Mullinahone progress directly to the Semi Finals having finished as the top two teams in Group 1. The Quarter Final pairings are as follows: Borrisokane v Moyle Rovers and Loughmore Castleiney v Fr Sheehys.
There is a three way play off in the relegation between Sean Treacys, JK Brackens and Clonoulty Rossmore with the bottom two to play Junior Football in 2027. Clonoulty Rossmore will face Sean Treacys in the first round of this play off.
2026 FBD Insurance County Hurling Championships
Another busy weekend lies ahead in the club hurling scene across the county.
The Preliminary Quarter Finals will take place in the Senior, Premier Intermediate and Intermediate grades while the Intermediate grade will also see Relegation Semi Finals.
Senior
Two Preliminary Quarter Finals take place in the Senior grade this weekend.
First up on Saturday at 5.00 pm – The Ragg plays host to the much anticipated meeting of Loughmore Castleiney and Holycross Ballycahill. The sides are no strangers to each other having met in the Mid Final back in July with Loughmore Castleiney emerging victorious after extra time. They also met in last year’s County Semi Final with Loughmore Castleiney again coming out on top.

The second Senior Preliminary Quarter Final takes place on Sunday at 3.30 pm in Borrisoleigh where Clonoulty Rossmore take on Nenagh Éire Óg. Éire Óg finished second in their group following a strong win over Toomevara in Round 3 while Clonoulty Rossmore come into the game as West Senior champions. The sides last met in the County Championship in the group stages of the 2022 competition with the game ending in a 0-19 to 3-10 draw.
The following teams await in the Quarter Finals which take place on the weekend of Saturday September 12th:
Seeded: Thurles Sarsfields, Moycarkey Borris, Cashel King Cormacs, JK Brackens
Unseeded: Borris-Ileigh, Kiladangan
The draw for the Relegation Semi Finals has been delayed. Clonoulty Rossmore could avoid the relegation battle if they go on to win the county title. If they do not, they will enter the relegation battle alongside Upperchurch Drombane, Roscrea and CJ Kickhams Mullinahone.
Premier Intermediate
Three Preliminary Quarter Finals take place in the Premier Intermediate grade this weekend.
First up on Saturday at 3.00 pm in Drombane, Sean Treacys take on Thurles Sarsfields, the reigning Mid champions. The sides met in last year’s group stages with Sarsfields coming out on top on a scoreline of 3-19 to 1-18.

The remaining two games take place on Sunday. At 1.00 pm in Templemore, Boherlahan Dualla face Silvermines, the North champions. The sides also met in last year’s group stages with Boherlahan Dualla edging the contest by two points 1-22 to 2-17.
The final game takes place at 1.30 pm in Littleton where Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill, the West champions, face Moneygall. Coincidentally, the sides also met at the Preliminary QuarterFinal stage last year with Moneygall progressing following a 1-19 to 0-20 victory.

Unseeded: St Mary’s
The draw for the Relegation Semi Finals has been delayed. Silvermines could avoid the relegation battle if they go on to win the county title. If they do not, they will enter the relegation battle alongside their neighbours Templederry Kenyons, Carrick Swan and Ballina.
Intermediate
There is only one Preliminary Quarter Final required at the Intermediate grade with South champions Skeheenarinky facing Newport on Sunday at 2.00 pm in Tipperary Town .
The winner of this game will join the following teams in the Quarter Finals which take place on the weekend of Saturday, September 12th:
Seeded: Kilsheelan Kilcash, Arravale Rovers, Ballingarry, Borrisokane
Unseeded: Portroe, Clonakenny, Cappawhite
The Intermediate Relegation Semi Finals will take place this coming weekend. Clonoulty Rossmore take on Carrick Davins on Saturday at 2.00 pm in New Inn while on Sunday at 1.00 pm in Golden – Holycross Ballycahill will face Ballybacon Grange.

The All Ireland Wallball Semi Finals and Finals were hosted by Clogh Ballacolla Co Laois at the weekend. In the Juvenile Girls U14 Emily Monaghan from Ballina was defeated by the overall winner Nina McBride from Antrim. In the Adult finals on Sunday in the Diamond masters Martin Spain Loch Eorna was defeated by Paul Cassidy from Monaghan 15/6 15/1. In the Ladies Junior B Siobhan Prentice from Ballina defeated Niamh Mc Elwain from Monaghan jn the Semi Final 15/4 15/11. In a cracking final Siobhan registered Another National Ladies title for Tipperary and Ballina by defeating Orla Brophy from Laois 15/10 15/13 in the Final. Well done to all our Players who represented Munster in the All Ireland Semi Finals & Final.
Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw
The August Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw, the first draw of the 2026–2027 draw, took place last Friday August 28th in The Granary Bar, Thurles. Congratulations to all this month’s winners.

A major milestone was also reached with membership now exceeding 18,000 for the 2026–2027 draw. At least 50% of every membership goes directly to the member’s nominated club, with 87 Club Draw Coordinators and club promoters playing a key role in its continued success.
A new London unit has also joined the scheme with plans to further expand the draw to additional clubs, groups and organisations.

2026 Tipperary Club Season Pass
The 2026 Tipperary GAA club season pass is now on sale and can be purchased via the events section of the Tipperary GAA App. The pass which will entitle the holder entry into all adult divisional and county games at adult level will cost €170.
GAA Regional Youth Forums
The Gaelic Games Associations are inviting young members aged 12 to 21 to attend the GAA Regional Youth Forums taking place in September. The forums will give young people the opportunity to have their say on the future of Gaelic games through discussion, debate and interactive workshops.
This year, the Youth Forum is coming to regional venues, with The Dome, FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles, hosting a forum on Sunday September 6th from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.
The forums have been developed by the National GAA Youth Committee and will help shape the future direction of the Association.
Young people are encouraged to attend and have their voices heard. Further information, including registration details, is available on the GAA Youth Forum page on the GAA website.
Go Games Blitz
Clubs are invited to host Under 8 Football Blitzes on September 12/13 and Hurling/Camogie Blitzes on September 19/20. The focus should be on fun, maximum participation and meaningful playing time with small sided games (6 v 6 max) and a positive, child centred environment. Sympathy
Tipperary GAA wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to the family, friends and the wider GAA community on the passing of Tipperary All Ireland winner Liam King of Lorrha Dorrha.
A member of the great Tipperary team that captured All Ireland glory in 1971, Liam was a formidable presence in the Premier County defence and a player who embodied the pride, toughness and skill for which Tipperary hurlers have always been renowned.
Liam’s Tipperary senior career spanned from 1968 to 1975. Playing primarily at right corner back, he established himself as a regular member of the senior side. He also represented Munster on two occasions in the Railway Cup. The highlight came in 1971 when Tipperary reached the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final and defeated Kilkenny to claim the Liam McCarthy Cup. Alongside fellow Lorrha man Noel Lane, Liam played his part in one of the most memorable Tipperary teams of the era.
Liam was a key member of the Lorrha Dorrha team that captured the North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship in 1966 lining out at right half back. Lorrha defeated Toomevara by 3-11 to 2-13 in the North Final before their County Championship journey eventually came to an end losing out to Carrick Davins in the County Final. His achievements with Lorrha Dorrha extended beyond senior hurling. He won a county junior football medal with the club in 1971 and was recognised as the ‘Guardian’ Player of the Year in 1972. That dedication to Lorrha Dorrha was evident throughout his long association with the club. A successful juvenile player in his formative years, Liam won North Tipperary Under 15 medals in 1956 and 1957 achieving county success in 1957. He remained a great clubman throughout his life and following his playing career, served the club as chairperson, secretary and treasurer at different times.
His contribution to Tipperary hurling continued long after his playing days. In 1985, Liam served as a selector with the Tipperary senior hurling team. His contribution will be remembered by those who wore the blue and gold alongside him and by generations of Tipperary supporters who hold the great teams of the past close to their hearts.

Liam King RIP
Tipperary GAA wishes to extend its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Vincent O’Meara of Clonmel Óg who passed away following a short illness. His lifelong contribution to Clonmel Óg began at the very formation of the club in 1984 when he was among the first group of children to join. He wore the club colours with distinction at every level in both hurling and football enjoying considerable success along the way including South Junior A Football titles in 1995 and 1997 and a South Junior B Hurling title in 2000. For Vincent, however, Clonmel Óg was about far more than playing games. He loved every aspect of club life – training, matches, celebrations and of course the post match analysis where his input was always guaranteed. He was encouraging, knowledgeable and never too far off the mark.
Vincent later made an enormous contribution to the administrative side of the club. He served as Club Secretary from the mid 1990s until 2006 and was the club’s South Board delegate for close to 20 years. His personality, calm manner and deep love for Clonmel Óg made him ideally suited to these roles and he guided the club with a steady hand and quiet reassurance. He also served as a selector with both the club’s hurling and football teams bringing the same calm presence and boundless enthusiasm. GAA was very much part of Vincent’s family heritage. His late father Michael O’Meara served as Secretary of the South Tipperary Board for almost 30 years and was a hugely respected servant and historian of the Association. Vincent’s passing is a loss that Clonmel Óg and the wider Tipperary GAA community will feel for many years to come. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
