2026 FBD Insurance Tipperary County Championship
The opening weekend of the FBD Insurance County Hurling Championships certainly lived up to expectations, producing a host of thrilling encounters across the Senior, Premier Intermediate and Intermediate grades. In the Senior Championship, Thurles Sarsfields withstood a determined secondhalf fightback from neighbours Upperchurch Drombane to open with victory while HolycrossBallycahill snatched a dramatic onepoint win over Kilruane MacDonaghs with the final score of the game. Reigning champions Loughmore Castleiney suffered an opening round defeat to an impressive Moycarkey Borris side while Clonoulty Rossmore edged Borris-Ileigh by two points. Kiladangan got the better of Roscrea, Cashel King Cormacs recorded a high scoring two point win over Drom & Inch, JK Brackens produced a notable eight point victory over Nenagh Éire Óg and Toomevara and CJ Kickhams shared the spoils in the only drawn game of the Senior round.

The Premier Intermediate Championship also served up plenty of excitement as Seán Treacys claimed a fine two point victory over Silvermines while neighbours Gortnahoe Glengoole and Moyne Templetuohy finished level. Killenaule overcame South rivals St Mary’s by three points, Thurles Sarsfields edged Carrick Swan by the minimum margin, Moneygall impressed against Templederry Kenyons with eleven points to spare, Lorrha Dorrha defeated Burgess while Golden Kilfeacle and Boherlahan Dualla enjoyed impressive victories over Ballina and Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill respectively.

There were equally competitive contests in the Intermediate Championship with Kilsheelan Kilcash enjoying a comfortable win over Clonoulty Rossmore and Portroe claiming a dramatic one point victory over Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams thanks to a late score. Shannon Rovers handed Carrick Davins a heavy defeat, Arravale Rovers impressed against Clonakenny with a nine point victory, Cappawhite proved too strong for Holycross Ballycahill, Ballingarry overcame Skeheenarinky while Newport and Borrisokane completed victories over Ballybacon Grange and Moyle Rovers respectively.

Following an exciting opening weekend of hurling championship action, attention now turns to the start of the FBD Insurance County Football Championships with the opening round getting underway this weekend. An exciting programme of games awaits from Thursday through to Sunday and we look forward to welcoming supporters to grounds across the county for what promises to be another thrilling championship campaign. Senior Football Championship
Group 1 features two intriguing contests. Last year’s quarter finalists Aherlow and Ballina go head to head while South rivals Clonmel Commercials and Ardfinnan renew their local rivalry. In Group 2, newly promoted Thurles Sarsfields begin life back in the senior ranks against Ballyporeen while JK Brackens take on last year’s beaten finalists Kilsheelan Kilcash. Group 3 sees two fixtures involving sides who have become regular contenders in recent years. Loughmore Castleiney face Moyle Rovers while Upperchurch Drombane take on Grangemockler-Ballyneale.
Intermediate Football Championship
There are plenty of attractive ties in the opening round of the Intermediate Championship.
In Group 1, recently relegated Cahir face last year’s finalists Rockwell Rovers while Fethard meet Éire Óg Annacarty-Donohill. Group 2 sees Killenaule take on Moyne Templetuohy while the Clonmel derby between Clonmel Commercials and Clonmel Óg is sure to attract plenty of interest. In Group 3, Galtee Rovers St Pecaun face Moycarkey Borris, while the all West clash between Arravale Rovers and Golden Kilfeacle promises to be a keenly contested affair.
Premier Junior Football Championship
In Group 1, Carrick Swan take on JK Brackens, Borrisokane meet CJ Kickhams Mullinahone while Loughmore Castleiney face Seán Treacys. In Group 2, Moyle Rovers begin their campaign against Fr Sheehys while Clonoulty Rossmore have a bye in the opening round.
Supporters are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance through the Tipperary GAA website. Entry to all venues is by Tap & Go but purchasing tickets beforehand will help avoid delays at the gate. Please allow extra time for parking and arrive early to ensure you’re in place before throw in.

Camogie
Hard luck to the Tipperary Senior Camogie team, whose championship journey came to an end on Saturday evening after a 2-16 to 0-17 defeat to Cork in the Glen Dimplex All Ireland Senior Camogie Championship Semi Final at FBD Semple Stadium. A huge effort from the players and management throughout the season, with plenty to be proud of despite the disappointment of falling just short on the day. Congratulations to Cork on reaching the All Ireland Final and well done to everyone involved with Tipperary for their commitment and dedication all year. The future remains bright for Tipp Camogie.
Tipperary Masters
Hard luck to the Tipperary Masters hurlers who narrowly missed out on retaining the All Ireland Masters Hurling title losing to Galway by 1-16 to 0-16 in last Saturday’s Final in Athenry. A tremendous effort from the Premier men throughout the campaign but on this occasion Galway edged a hard fought contest to claim the Cup. Congratulations to Galway and well done to the Tipperary players and management on another great season.
Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw

2026 Tipperary Club Season Pass
The 2026 Tipperary GAA club season pass is now on sale and can be purchased via the events section of the Tipperary GAA App. The pass which will entitle the holder entry into all adult divisional and county games at adult level will cost €170.
GAA Regional Youth Forums
The Gaelic Games Associations are inviting young members aged 12 to 21 to attend the GAA Regional Youth Forums taking place in September. The forums will give young people the opportunity to have their say on the future of Gaelic games through discussion, debate and interactive workshops.
This year, the Youth Forum is coming to regional venues, with The Dome, FBD Semple Stadium, Thurles, hosting a forum on Sunday September 6th from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.
The forums have been developed by the National GAA Youth Committee and will help shape the future direction of the Association.
Young people are encouraged to attend and have their voices heard. Further information, including registration details, is available on the GAA Youth Forum page on the GAA website.
Sympathy
Tipperary GAA extends its deepest sympathies to the Ryan family, the Clonoulty Rossmore club and Stan’s many friends following the recent passing of Stan Ryan. Stan played his part in Tipperary’s All Ireland Minor Hurling Championship victories in 1956 and 1957. Tipperary defeated Kilkenny in both All Ireland Finals after first claiming the Munster Minor Hurling Championship with victories over Waterford in 1956 and Limerick in 1957. A talented hurler from a young age, Stan also achieved notable success with Thurles CBS, where he won both Dean Ryan Cup and Dr Harty Cup medals in 1956. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
