Tipperary Senior Hurlers
Hard luck to the Tipperary Senior Hurlers who lost out to Limerick on a 5-27 to 0-25 scoreline last Sunday in the TUS Gaelic Grounds in the final round of the group stages of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship. Limerick got off to the perfect start with an Aaron Gillane goal inside the opening seconds of the game. They added a second goal in the seventh minute to move six points clear early on. Despite the difficult start, Tipp responded well and finished the first half strongly going in at the break just four points behind, 2-12 to 0-14. However, Limerick again started the second half brightly, with Diarmaid Byrnes finding the net from a penalty early on. Aidan O’Connor added another goal seven minutes into the half to stretch the lead to nine points before Aaron Gillane struck for Limerick’s fifth goal on the 50th minute as they remained comfortable for the remainder of the game.

This now brings the curtain down on the 2026 championship campaign for the Tipperary Senior Hurlers.While it was a disappointing end to the year, great credit is due first and foremost to the players for their dedication, commitment and efforts throughout the season. Thanks to Liam Cahill, his management team and the entire backroom team for all their hard work, professionalism and commitment during the year. Everyone involved represented Tipperary with great pride throughout the year.

Tipperary Senior Footballers
Hard luck to the Tipperary Senior Footballers who lost out to Antrim on a 4-12 to 2-12 scoreline last Sunday in Corrigan Park in Round 2A of the Tailteann Cup. It was a tight and physical opening to the contest, with scores hard to come by in the early stages. However, Antrim’s ability to take their goal chances proved crucial as they built momentum during the first half and took a 2-6 to 0-4 lead into the break. Tipperary battled hard throughout and remained in contention, but Antrim struck for a third goal on 47 minutes to move 3-7 to 0-7 ahead. A further goal nine minutes later stretched their advantage to 4-9 to 0-9 and left Tipp with a mountain to climb. To their credit, Tipp never gave up. Steven O’Brien raised a green flag with ten minutes remaining, while Joe Higgins added a second goal with two minutes left as Tipp finished the game strongly. However, Antrim held firm in the closing stages to secure the victory.

Tipperary Minor Hurlers
The Tipperary Minor Hurlers will be out in action again on the weekend of June 13th/14th in the All Ireland Semi Final. Their opponents are yet to be determined with the Quarter Finals taking place this coming weekend.
Celtic Challenge
Well done to the Tipperary Blue Under 17 hurling side who recorded a comprehensive win in Templemore last Saturday in the Semi Final of the Division 1 Corn Michael Hogan. Tipperary led from the start and were ahead 5–2 after the opening quarter. Their first goal came on 21 minutes when Charlie Lawlor struck from the ground to the back of the netextending the lead to seven points. Tipp went in at half time leading 1-11 to 0-6. The impressive Morgan O’Connor scored Tipp’s second goal early in the second half to stretch the advantage to 14 points. Eoin Kennedy added Tipperary’s final goal midway through the half as Tipperary secured an impressive 3-22 to 0-14. victory.

The Tipperary Masters are scheduled to take on Wexford this coming Saturday 30th May at 2.00 pm in Bellfield, Enniscorthy in their third game of the Hurling Championship
FBD Insurance County Championship Round 1 Draws
A CCC meeting was held last week which carried out the Round 1 draws for the County Hurling and Football Championships.
The Hurling Round 1 fixtures are as follows and will take place in late July:

In Senior Group 4, Nenagh Éire Óg face JK Brackens and Toomevara play CJ Kickhams Mullinahone.
Premier Intermediate Group 1 includes Sean Treacys vs Silvermines and Moyne Templetuohy vs Gortnahoe Glengoole. In Premier Intermediate Group 2, Thurles Sarsfields face Carrick Swan while St Mary’s take on Killenaule. Premier Intermediate Group 3 has Burgess vs Lorrha Dorrha and Templederry Kenyons vs Moneygall. In Premier Intermediate Group 4, Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill play Boherlahan Dualla and Ballina face Golden Kilfeacle.

FBD Insurance County Leagues
County Hurling League
Cashel King Cormacs will face Kiladangan in the Division 1 Final after Cashel recorded a hard earned 1-21 to 1-17 Semi Final victory over Carrick Swan last Saturday evening.
Division 2 Semi Finals – Clonakenny hosted Killenaule on Tuesday May 26th, with no result available at the time of going to print. The other Semi Final takes place this coming Friday May 29th at 7.30 pm when Boherlahan Dualla host Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill.
Division 3 will have an all West final after Arravale Rovers defeated Portroe 1-26 to 2-17 in Newport last Saturday. Rovers now advance to meet Golden Kilfeacle, who secured their Final spot following a 2-23 to 2-19 victory over Sean Treacys last Friday night.
In Division 4, Toomevara overcame Moyle Rovers on a scoreline of 3-21 to 1-20 in their Semi Final clash. The Greyhounds will now take on Holycross Ballycahill in the Final after Holycross claimed a 1-26 to 1-19 win over St Patrick’s.
The Division 5 group stages are reaching their conclusion, with Ballybacon Grange producing one of the standout results of the weekend. They powered to a convincing 5-22 to 1-13 Group 1 victory over Moycarkey Borris last Friday, a result that secured top spot and a direct passage to the Final. The Division 5 Semi Final will see Cashel King Cormacs take on Kilruane MacDonaghs. Kilruane sealed top spot in Group 3 thanks to their 3-19 to 0-20 victory over Ballylooby Castlegrace last Saturday evening.
In Division 6, Moyne Templetuohy edged out Killenaule in an exciting Semi Final on Friday night, winning 2-17 to 2-16. The Mid side now progress to the Final where they will meet Clerihan.
County Football League
Attention now turns to the County Football League Finals, with several contests down for decision over the coming days.
The Division 1 Final sees Moyle Rovers take on Golden Kilfeacle this Saturday evening at 6.00 pm in New Inn, with both sides aiming to cap off strong league campaigns with silverware.
The Division 2 Final takes place on Wednesday May 27th in Ballingarry where Moyne Templetuohy face Grangemockler Ballyneale in what promises to be a closely contested encounter.
Meanwhile, neighbours Ballingarry and St Patrick’s will renew rivalries in the Division 3 Final on Monday June 1st at 6.00 pm in Mullinahone.
Division 4 remains finely poised with group games still ongoing. Last Saturday saw Cahir and Thurles Gaels finish level on 3-11 to 2-14, while Clerihan edged Ardfinnan 1-6 to 0-6 last Thursday. Rosegreen were in goal scoring form on Friday night – recording a 7-12 to 2-10 victory over Solohead.
With further fixtures still to be played in the coming week, there is still everything to play for in Division 4, with the top two teams progressing to the Final. Supporters are encouraged to check the Tipperary GAA website for upcoming fixture details and updates.

Tipperary GAA Cúl Camps – Coach Recruitment
Tipperary GAA are currently recruiting coaches for the 2026 Cúl Camps programme. Applicants must be 18 years of age on or before 6th July.
Full training and support will be provided before camps begin, with camps taking place throughout the county, offering successful applicants the opportunity to work locally and gain valuable experience.
The role also provides a strong reference for CVs while helping to deliver fun, safe and active camps for children across the county.
Camps will run from Monday to Friday, 10am to 2pm, beginning on Sunday 6th July.

Tipperary GAA Long Puck Competition
Tipperary GAA will host its County Senior and U16 Long Puck Competition on Friday 5th June at 6.30pm in Glencoshbinnia (Eircode: E34 FT65).
Participants are reminded that all competitors must bring a marker to assist with marking cards during the course of the competition. Please note that no marker means no entry.

Inclusive Cúl Camps
Tipperary GAA will host two Inclusive Cúl Camps this summer, providing children of all abilities with the opportunity to enjoy fun, friendship and Gaelic games in an inclusive and welcoming environment.
The camps will focus on participation, enjoyment and making friends, with the message that “Everyone Plays, Everyone Belongs”.
Inclusive Camp 1 will take place in Cahir GAA on July 21st, 22nd and 23rd from 11am to 1pm each day.
Inclusive Camp 2 will take place in Coolmore Morris Park, Thurles, on August 11th, 12th and 13th, also running from 11am to 1pm daily.

Under 13 Club Player Divisional Camps
Tipperary GAA will host a series of Under 13 Club Player Divisional Camps this summer, aimed at helping young players develop their football, hurling and athletic development skills in a fun and enjoyable environment.
The two-day camps will run from 10am to 1pm daily and are open to players born in 2013. The cost of attendance is €60, with all players receiving a Tipperary GAA rucksack and water bottle.
The Mid Tipperary Camp will take place in Coolmore Morris Park, Thurles on July 21st and 22nd.
The West Tipperary Camp will be hosted by Arravale Rovers GAA Club on July 28th and 29th.
The North Tipperary Camp will take place in Portroe GAA Club on August 5th and 6th, while the South Tipperary Camp will be held in Clonmel Óg GAA Club on the same dates.

On Sunday last Ballina contested the Open Club All Ireland final against Kells from Meath. The game was played in Kingscourt in Cavan. The team of Fergal Collins, Martin Mc Inerney, Ger Coonan, James Prentice & Declan Gleeson had to settle for runner up spot . They put in a great effort winning 3 of the 6 games but Kells had a bigger winning margin to take the Club All Ireland title.

Book Mention – Rambling Houses
A recently published book, Rambling Houses – An Important Part of our Irish Culture, compiled by Peter Byrne, may be of interest to many within the GAA community. Peter, a former Tipperary Draw Chairman and a dedicated servant of Tipperary GAA, has compiled this collection. Proceeds from the book are going to the Tipperary Branch of the Parkinson’s Association and Roscrea Age Friendly Organisation.
Sympathy
Tipperary GAA is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Liz Howard, a hugely respected figure whose lifelong contribution to Gaelic Games spanned playing, administration, media and leadership roles at the very highest level.
Born into a proud and distinguished GAA family, Liz’s lifelong love of Gaelic Games was deeply rooted from an early age. Her father, Garrett Howard, won five All Ireland senior hurling medals – three with Limerick and two with Dublin – while her maternal granduncle was Frank McGrath, former chairman of Munster Council, after whom the current North Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship trophy is named. Raised initially in Deerpark, Carrick on Suir before the family later moved to Clare, Liz and her sisters Pat and Jo helped establish a camogie club in Feakle, reflecting a passion for the game that would define her life.
Liz played camogie with Clare, Tipperary and Dublin, enjoying significant success at inter county level. With Tipperary, she won a Munster Championship and was a member of the team that captured the inaugural National Camogie League title in 1977 defeating Wexford in the replayed final. She also won an All Ireland Junior medal and two Leinster Junior Championships with Dublin. She also enjoyed considerable success at club level, wearing the colours of Feakle, Roscrea, as well as Celtic and Phoenix in Dublin. She won county championships with Roscrea while during her time with Celtic – a club that produced seven presidents of the Camogie Association – she captured two club championships and two Leinster Junior championships.
A pioneering figure in Gaelic Games, Liz broke new ground when RTÉ launched The Sunday Game in 1979, becoming the programme’s first female analyst for both hurling and football. At a time when women were rarely represented in Gaelic Games coverage, she led the way with confidence, expertise and passion. Liz again broke new ground again in 1982 when she became the first female PRO of Tipperary GAA, a role she held for 22 years. She became one of the most recognisable and respected voices in the association, admired for her professionalism, dedication and unwavering love for Tipperary GAA.
Liz’s contribution to camogie administration was immense. She served as PRO and National Fixtures Secretary of the Camogie Association before becoming the 27th President of the Camogie Association from 2006 to 2009. During her presidency, she focused on the development and promotion of camogie nationwide and played a central role in shaping the association’s Strategic Plan, helping pave the way for the continued growth of the game.
Her influence extended throughout the wider GAA community through service on numerous national committees including Policy and Planning, Increased Participation and Presentation and Awards, which she chaired. Her work helped lay important foundations for greater cooperation and integration across the Gaelic Games family.
Liz’s leadership and vision were recognised nationally on many occasions. She was named Tipperary Person of the Year in 2007 by the Tipperary Association Dublin and was selected as Sport Ireland Volunteer of the Year in 2009. In 2022, she received a Laochra Gael award in The Dome in Thurles, a fitting tribute to her lifelong service to Gaelic Games.
Outside of sport, Liz enjoyed a long and successful career with Aer Lingus, working in both ground and cabin crew before later specialising in recruitment and human resources management.
Above all else, Liz will be remembered as a proud Tipperary woman, a trailblazer, a mentor and a loyal friend to so many throughout the GAA and camogie communities. Her passion for the Premier County never wavered and her famous motto, “Move on: Tipperary is bigger than any of us”, perfectly captured her selflessness and dedication to the association.
On behalf of Tipperary GAA, we extend our deepest sympathies to Liz’s family, friends, colleagues and all in Tipperary Camogie, Burgess GAA Club and Burgess Duharra Camogie Club who mourn her passing.
