Tipperary Senior Hurlers

The Senior Hurlers had a high scoring 2-27 to 3-24 draw with Kilkenny last Saturday evening in FBD Semple Stadium in the final group game of the Allianz Hurling League.

Kilkenny made a flying start with Liam Moore goaling inside the opening minute and the Cats racing into a six point lead by the first quarter. Tipp settled and a Jake Morris goal on 19 minutes cut the gap to three before Liam Cahill’s side edged ahead 1-14 to 1-13 by half time.

Tipp struck early again after the break, Darragh McCarthy finishing to the net and stretched their lead to five points entering the final quarter. Kilkenny responded with a strong spell, hitting 1-4 without reply including a TJ Reid goal to retake the lead.

Eoghan Connolly’s accuracy helped level matters but a Martin Keoghan goal pushed Kilkenny back in front. Jason Forde replied with a sideline and a free and although Seán Kenneally looked to have won it late on, Jordan Molloy’s last score ensured the sides shared the spoils.

Final standings in Division 1A of the Allianz Hurling League see Limerick and Cork progress to the Final, with Tipperary finishing third. Tipperary will return to action on April 19th against Cork in the opening round of the Munster Championship.

Tipperary Senior Footballers 

The Senior Footballers produced an impressive performance in their final group game last Sunday as Tipperary defeated Waterford on a 4-19 to 0-18 scoreline in FBD Semple Stadium. Tipperary made a flying start and were 1-4 to 0-0 ahead after just eight minutes, with the opening goal coming from a penalty finished by Sean O’Connor after a ball was picked up in the square. Waterford were slow to settle but responded with the next four points to get themselves into the contest. A goal from Joe Higgins on 33 minutes stretched Tipperary’s lead and Sean O’Connor struck again just before half-time to leave Tipp firmly in control. A strong finish to the half saw Tipperary lead 3-11 to 0-10 at the interval, effectively putting the game out of Waterford’s reach.

The sides traded points throughout the second half with Tipperary maintaining their advantage. Sean O’Connor completed his hat trick in the 62nd minute with a powerful finish to the net, sealing a comfortable and deserved victory.

Tipperary GAA finished joint third place in Division 4 of the Allianz Football League standings –  level on points with Wicklow and Antrim. Promotion places were secured by Carlow and Longford. Looking ahead, Tipperary will commence their championship campaign on April 12th, facing Waterford in the Munster Senior Football Quarter Final.

Tipperary Under 20 Footballers

Well done to the Tipperary Under 20 footballers who delivered an impressive second half performance last Saturday in New Inn to defeat Limerick 3-13 to 2-9 in Round 2 of the Dalata Hotel Group Munster Under 20 Football Championship. Tipperary made a dream start with Charlie Walsh finding the net inside the opening minute followed by a Liam Freaney two point free to give Tipp early momentum. However, Limerick responded strongly with midfielder Aidan O’Shea causing problems when he went into the full forward line and raising two goals to help the Treaty men into a 2-6 to 1-3 lead at the break. Walsh opened the second half with a two pointer while a Mark Neville score from a penalty kept Tipp in touch. A well worked goal finished by Freaney after excellent play from Dylan Cotter reduced the deficit to one before the Tipp captain struck again for a second goal to push his side in front. Further two pointers from Walsh and James Power along with an impressive contribution off the bench from Cotter saw Tipp take control and pull away for a deserved seven point victory.

Tipperary Under 20 Hurlers

Best of luck to the Under 20 hurlers who begin their Fulfil sponsored Munster Championship campaign this Wednesday March 25th at 7.00pm in FBD Semple Stadium against Cork. Oisin O’Donoghue of Cashel King Cormacs has been named as captain whilst Jamie Ormond (JK Brackens) is vice captain. Well done to both players on a great honour.

Tipperary have enjoyed a strong recent record against Cork at this level. Last year Tipp were 1-20 to 2-11 winners in the group stages. The year before, Tipp recorded two wins over the Rebels, including a one-point victory in the final, 1-19 to 0-21, with Oisín O’Donoghue scoring the decisive goal. Cork’s last win came in the 2023 group stages, while Tipp also claimed a 2-20 to 1-21 Semi Final victory in 2022 with goals from John Campion and Peter McGarry.

Tipperary Minor Footballers

Best of luck to the Minor footballers who begin their Electric Ireland sponsored Munster Championship campaign this Friday March 29th at 2.00pm in Hannon Park, Lattin against Limerick. Please note the change of venue to Lattin. The game will be streamed live on Clubber.

Limerick were 2-14 to 1-12 winners when the sides met in last year’s group stages. The previous year Tipp won 2-13 to 0-10 in the group stage. In 2023 Limerick claimed the Phase 1 Final 1-9 to 1-6, though Tipp had earlier won the group meeting 1-11 to 0-7. Tipperary also won the 2022 Phase 1 Final 1-14 to 1-4.

Munster Senior Hurling Championship Ticket Allocation

Following last weeks announcement by Munster GAA regarding ticket arrangements for the upcoming 2026 Munster Senior Hurling Championship, Tipperary GAA wishes to outline how tickets can be accessed for all four group games in the championship. For Round 1 v Cork in FBD Semple Stadium and Round 2 v Waterford in Walsh Park, all tickets will be distributed through the clubs of the county. There will be no public sale of tickets for either game. For Round 4 v Clare and Round 5 v Limerick, tickets will go on public sale on April 8th. Tickets for these games will also be distributed through the clubs of the county. Please note that Tipperary GAA will not have any tickets available for public sale through the County Board Office. Supporters are asked to contact their clubs or purchase tickets via the online ticketing platforms (Rounds 4 & 5). Season Ticket holders will be allocated tickets by the Season Ticket team. Any queries regarding these tickets should be directed to seasonticket@gaa.ie.

A limited number of Juvenile Group tickets will be available for all Tipperary matches. Clubs can apply for Juvenile Group tickets via http://www.munster.gaa.ie/tickets from Wednesday, April 8th, with a maximum allocation of 40 tickets per club (including a maximum of 6 adults). One application per club will be accepted.

County Leagues

Round 2 of the FBD Insurance County Football Leagues took place last weekend.In Division 1, Clonmel Commercials had another draw, this time with Golden Kilfeacle, while Cahir got the better of Arravale Rovers by a single point, 3-14 to 3-13. Moyle Rovers recorded a comfortable 16 point victory over Ardfinnan.

In Division 2, Grangemockler Ballyneale and Moyne Templetuohy sit joint top with two wins from two. Grangemockler Ballyneale had a 2-17 to 1-9 victory over Fethard while Moyne Templetuohy got the better of Kilsheelan Kilcash by ten points. Aherlow and Galtee Rovers St Pecaun’s played out a draw in the other game.

In Division 3, St Patrick’s had nine points to spare over Borrisokane while Ballingarry secured a 3-9 to 1-12 win over Fr Sheehy’s.

Clerihan and Cahir sit top of Division 4 with two victories each with Clerihan defeating Thurles Gaels well and Cahir getting the better of Solohead. Rosegreen defeated Ardfinnan 6-8 to 2-12 while Ballyporeen overcame Rockwell Rovers 7-5 to 2-15 to complete the Round 2 action in Division 4 in games that saw a high number of goals scored.

Since the last GAA Scene a number of Hurling League games took place. On Monday 16th Holycross Ballycahill had a 1-21 to 1-18 Division 1 Group 1 victory away to Toomevara. In the same game on Tuesday 17th Kilruane MacDonaghs came away from Thurles with a 1-19 to 1-15 victory over Sarsfields. On the same day in Division 1 Group 3 Roscrea defeated Gortnahoe Glengoole 2-17 to 0-13. The action on St Patricks Day was completed with Ballybacon Grange enjoying a comfortable victory over Rockwell Rovers in Division 5. Group 2 of Division 1 Round 1 was completed on Thursday 19th with Cashel King Cormacs defeating Moycarkey Borris 1-22 to 0-16. Friday 20th March saw Clonoulty Rossmore and Drom Inch share the points 1-22 to 3-16 in Division 1. On Sunday last, Portroe had a 3-19 to 0-15 Division 3 win over Silvermines whilst in Division 5, Cashel King Cormacs defeated Carrick Swan by six whilst Kilruane MacDonaghs had a ten point victory over CJK Mullinahone.

Schools

Congratulations to St Joseph’s Borrisoleigh on their superb victory in the Masita All-Ireland Under 19 ‘C’ Hurling Final last Friday in Borrisokane, claiming the Michael Cusack Cup.

Led by victorious captain Micheál Collins (Templederry Kenyons) who contributed 0-5 with Shane Ryan (Borris-Ileigh) adding an impressive 0-7, it was a true team performance. First-half goals from Cody Quirke (Toomevara) inside the opening minute and Michael Ryan (Borris-Ileigh) on 19 minutes helped St Joseph’s to a 2-9 to 0-7 half-time lead.

Coláiste Naomh Cormac mounted a strong second-half comeback scoring two goals to cut the gap to a single point with five minutes remaining but St Joseph’s showed great composure finishing with four late points to seal a memorable 2-17 to 2-12 victory.

Colleges

Congratulations to Ballina’s Charlie King who was named on the 2026 Electric Ireland GAA Higher Education Rising Stars Football Team of the Year. Charlie played a key role in University of Limerick’s Sigerson Cup winning campaign.

Handball News 

It was a successful week for Tipperary Juveniles competing in the Munster Juvenile Team competitions across the U12/13, U14/15 and U16/17 grades.

Our U12/13 team of Conor Nolan, Tom Tobin, Cian Bartosik, Darren McKeogh, Paddy Delaney, Alfie Finn, Daniel Sherlock and Charlie Ivors travelled to Carrick-on-Suir. Clare received a bye to the Final, while Tipperary faced Cork in a thrilling Semi Final. All matches were knockout, first to 15 and the standard of handball on display was outstanding. There were incredible rallies, superb shot-making and great sportsmanship from both sides. Tipperary came through strongly to secure their place in the Final.

In the decider against Clare, the team showed exceptional skill, teamwork and determination to claim victory and be crowned Munster Champions.

The U14/15 team of Liam White (Lahorna), Eoin Hanrahan (Silvermines), Charlie Starkey (Youghalarra), Tadhg Malone (Newport), Josh O’Mahony (Newport), Jim O’Mahony (Newport) and Sean Coffey (Newport) travelled to Tuamgraney where they defeated Clare in the Munster Final on a scoreline of 73–42.

The Tipperary U16/17 team of Billy Murphy (Carrick-on-Suir), James Hanrahan (Silvermines), James Ryan (Silvermines) and Karl Boland (Nenagh) travelled to Liscarroll but were defeated by Clare.

The Munster Champions now travel to venues in Kilkenny next weekend for the All Ireland Semi Finals. Well done to all players and coaches and best of luck to the teams in the next stage.

The National Handball Cumann na mBunscoil day was also a great success with players gaining valuable experience competing in the National Handball Centre. Registration is open for the Doran Oil sponsored Tipperary GAA Easter Camps 2026. The camps will take place from 31st March to 2nd April or 7th to 9th April, running daily from 10am to 1pm at various venues across the county (see Tipperary GAA social media channels for the full list of venues and dates). Refereeing Activity

A number of Tipperary referees and officials represented the county on the intercounty stage in Allianz League action last weekend.

Michael Kennedy was in charge of Antrim v Down in Division 1B hurling while Ciarán O’Donovan officiated Wicklow v Louth in Division 3 hurling. Seán Lonergan refereed Wexford v Westmeath in Division 3 football, with David Grogan serving as time official.

Among the line umpires, Alan Tierney was involved in Dublin v Carlow in Division 1B hurling while Cian Ryan had the same role for Wexford v Kildare in Division 1B hurling, with Anthony Owens acting as sideline official in that game. Derek O’Mahony was the time official for Offaly v Meath in Division 2 football.

Craobh Scór Na Mumhan

A wonderful days entertainment was had in Newport on Sunday last for the 2026 Munster Scór Sinsear Final. Tipperary are delighted to have three wonderful acts heading to the All-Ireland next month following a greats day celebrating our wonderful culture.

First up were the Moyne Templetuohy quiz team who qualified for the national final, having finished 3rd in a challenging but very fair quiz. Congratulations to Jim, Joe, Tom and Diarmuid.

Onto the stage and Tipperary had strong representatives in six out of the seven competitions. Come results time and two Munster titles headed back to the Premier County both going to the JK Brackens GAA Club.  Noel Joyce will take the mantle in the recitation competition, with the musicians from JK Brackens also making the trip west next month. We congratulate Noel on another recitation title again entertaining the crowd with a self composed piece. The club’s music group saw off strong talent to claim provincial honours.

Commiserations to Katie Shanahan (Borris-ileigh), Newport’s Ballad Group, Moyne Templetuohy’s Novelty Act and Templederry’s Set all who performed exceptionally well on what was a very high standard of competitons. Special word of mention to Mairín McGrath from Newcastle who was a superb Bean an Tí and kept the show steadily moving throughout the day.

2026 Tipperary Club Season Pass

Critical Incident Response Training will take place online on March 25th at 7:30pm. Registration link:  https://learning.gaa.ie/node/294430 This training supports clubs in preparing for and responding appropriately to serious incidents.  It equips designated volunteers with the knowledge to implement the GAA’s Critical Incident Plan and ensures clubs can act in a timely, sensitive and structured way should the need arise.  Please note prior registration is required through the above link.

Wellbeing Meeting – All clubs interested in promoting wellbeing within their club and community are invited to come and share ideas at a meeting in Lar na Pairce on March 26th at 7.30 pm.

The GAA: Founding a Movement

A new GAA podcast, “The GAA: Founding a Movement,” has been launched, focusing on the association’s early years (1884–1891).

Available in Irish and English, the one-hour podcast features historians and teachers discussing the social and political context of the GAA’s foundation, including early challenges and key figures.

It has been developed in collaboration with Drumcondra Education Centre and is aimed particularly at Leaving Cert students, as this period is on the history curriculum for 2026–2027.

South Tipp Hospice Movement (STMH) has launched a dedicated Children’s and Adolescents Grief Support for young people aged 4 to 18 who experienced bereavement. The new initiative aims to ensure that no child,teen or family who in south or west Tipperary has to face grief alone.The support service is free and confidential.Referrals for the service can be made directly by parents by contacting South Tipperary Hospice movement at 052 6127721 or email southtipphospice@gmail.com

Sympathy

Tipperary GAA extends its deepest sympathies to everyone in Nenagh Éire Óg and to the Morris family on the passing of their esteemed Life President, Jimmy Morris.

A native of Borrisokane, Jimmy gave outstanding service to Nenagh Éire Óg over many decades as a committee member, selector and officer, including terms as Treasurer and Chairman. He played a central role in the development of the club’s facilities and helped shape generations of players through his dedication and vision.

A great Gael, Jimmy’s passion for the association never faded and he remained a constant presence at games in recent years. He was especially proud of the achievements of his grandson Jake Morris following his journey closely with great pride.

Jimmy Morris – RIP

Tipperary GAA extends its deepest sympathies to the Keating family on the passing of Jimmy Keating (Clonmel), who passed away recently. A native of the Ballybacon Grange/Ardfinnan parish and a proud member of the well known Keating GAA family, Jimmy devoted his life to the promotion and development of Gaelic games in South Tipperary. From the 1980s onwards, he was a key driving force behind St. Mary’s, playing a central role in shaping the club both on and off the field. He served as Club Chairman in the early 1990s, among a variety of other roles, and was widely respected for his leadership, commitment and vision. Jimmy also gave outstanding service at divisional level, serving as South Board Chairperson from 1997 to 1999, where he made a significant contribution to the growth and organisation of the games across the division. He was instrumental in the development of the sports grounds in Clonmel, contributing greatly to facilities that continue to benefit players and the wider community to this day.

Both true gaels, Jimmy Morris and Jimmy Keating’s contributions to their clubs and GAA within the county will not be forgotten.
