Tipperary GAA Scene 1st April 2026

Well done to the Tipperary Under 20 hurlers who began their Fulfil Munster Championship campaign with a hard fought 1-21 to 0-22 victory over Cork last Wednesday in FBD Semple Stadium.

Tipperary made a blistering start, racing into a 0-6 to 0-0 lead inside the opening 11 minutes. Cork gradually settled with Barry Walsh leading their scoring from frees and they edged in front for the first time just before the break to take a 0-12 to 0-11 lead at half time. The Rebels were reduced to 14 men approaching the interval.

Cork carried momentum into the second half and stretched their advantage to five points early on. However Tipp responded in decisive fashion with Jamie Ormond finding the net on 41 minutes to swing the game back in their favour. The sides traded scores throughout the closing stages and were level entering the final minutes. A late pointed free from Cormac Fitzpatrick followed by an Oisin O’Donoghue point proved enough to secure a two point win for Tipperary.

Well done to Stefan Tobin who was named Fulfil Man of the Match after the game after finishing with an impressive six points from play.

Tipperary travel to Cappoquin Logistics Fraher Field in Dungarvan this Wednesday, April 1st where they face Waterford in Round 2 at 7.00pm. Tipperary have enjoyed a strong recent record against Waterford at Under 20 level, winning each of their last five meetings. Last year Tipp recorded a 1-24 to 2-14 victory with Paddy McCormack raising the green flag, while current captain Oisin O’Donoghue scored a goal in their 1-21 to 0-15 win in 2024. There were goals aplenty in the 2023 clash as Tipp ran out 3-26 to 3-13 winners with current senior panellists Jack Leamy (2) and Peter McGarry among the goals. In 2022 Tipp secured a 2-21 to 1-20 victory with McGarry and Kyle Shelly finding the net. In the 2021 Quarter Final Tipperary prevailed on a 3-21 to 2-21 scoreline with goals from Jack Leamy, Paddy Creedon and Sean Hayes.

The Under 20 footballs final group game in Phase 1 of the Dalata Hotel Group Munster Under 20 Football Championship takes place this coming Friday 3rd April at 7.00 pm in Pairc Naomh Brid, Lemybrien (X42 R894) against Waterford. A win will be required in order to progress to Phase 2.

Tipperary have been on top in this fixture at Under 20/21 level, winning the last five meetings — including victories in 2024 and 2025, a two point win in the 2021 Semi Final and victories in the 2013 and 2014 Quarter Finals.

Hard luck to the Tipperary Minor Footballers who opened their Electric Ireland Munster Championship campaign last Sunday, played in wet conditions in Hannon Park, Lattin where they lost to Limerick on a 1-9 to 1-4 scoreline.

Tipperary’s only score of the first half was a goal from Cillian Morrissey, blasted to the back of the net following quick thinking from a Reuben Grace free. However Limerick proved a constant scoring threat and led 0-7 to 1-0 at half time.

It was a low scoring second half with Tipperary registering the opening two points after the break to close the gap. The decisive moment came seven minutes from time when Sean O’Flynn struck for a Limerick goal leaving Tipperary with too much to do. Despite their efforts Tipp were unable to cut the lead before the final whistle.

After the upcoming game against Waterford, the Minor footballers will take on Clare on Monday 13th April at 7.00 pm in Quilty in Round 3 of Phase 1.

Conor Collins from Galtee Rovers St Pecaun’s will captain the side whilst Shane Ryan of Borris-Ileigh will be vice captain.

There has been a close rivalry between the counties in recent years at minor hurling level. Clare won last year’s group game 1-17 to 2-12, while Tipp were victorious in the 2024 final on a 2-17 to 0-16 scoreline, with goals from Stefan Tobin and Cillian Minogue. Clare also won the 2023 and 2024 group meetings on scores of 0-19 to 4-11 and 0-14 to 2-15 respectively. Tipp claimed the 2022 final after a penalty shootout following a 1-22 to 0-25 draw.

Round 2 of the FBD Insurance Hurling League took place last weekend. In Group 1, Drom Inch edged JK Brackens on a 1-24 to 3-17 scoreline. Kiladangan recorded an impressive 5-18 to 1-12 victory over Borris-Ileigh, while Clonoulty Rossmore defeated Nenagh Éire Óg by 0-17 to 1-12. In Group 2, Moycarkey Borris overcame Toomevara on a 1-23 to 1-14 scoreline. Cashel King Cormacs claimed victory over Kilruane MacDonaghs on a 1-20 to 0-20 scoreline. In Group 3, Loughmore Castleiney defeated Gortnahoe Glengoole by 2-19 to 1-12. Upperchurch Drombane beat CJ Kickhams Mullinahone on a 0-20 to 2-12 scoreline, while Carrick Swan and Roscrea finished level at 0-16 to 2-10.

In Division 2 Group 1, Burgess recorded a 3-14 to 0-16 win over St Marys. Boherlahan Dualla overcame Lorrha Dorrha by 0-14 to 0-8 while Killenaule defeated Ballina on a 1-19 to 0-12 scoreline. In Division 2 Group 2, Éire Óg Annacarty proved too strong for Moneygall, winning 2-16 to 1-15. Thurles Sarsfields had a high-scoring victory over Templederry Kenyons, 3-24 to 2-20 while Clonakenny edged Moyne Templetuohy by 3-12 to 1-17.

In Division 3 Group 1, Golden Kilfeacle defeated Ballingarry by 0-22 to 0-16. Cappawhite overcame Kilsheelan Kilcash on a 1-16 to 2-9 scoreline. In Division 3 Group 2, Sean Treacys recorded a 5-18 to 2-19 win over Arravale Rovers. Borrisokane defeated Newport by 1-10 to 0-15 while Knockavilla Kickhams edged Shannon Rovers by 2-14 to 2-13.

In Division 4, Clonoulty Rossmore overcame Thurles Sarsfields by 3-13 to 1-17 while Toomevara defeated St Patricks on a 0-22 to 1-16 scoreline.

In Division 5 Group 1, Cahir recorded a comprehensive 2-24 to 0-6 win over Rockwell Rovers. Ballinahinch defeated Ballybacon Grange by 1-10 to 0-5 while Carrick Davins proved too strong for Moycarkey Borris, winning 4-14 to 1-6. In Division 5 Group 2, Carrick Swan and Lattin Cullen finished level at 0-22 to 3-13. Cashel King Cormacs defeated Galtee Rovers St Pecaun’s by 2-18 to 1-15 while Gortnahoe Glengoole had a big win over St Marys, 3-28 to 1-14. In Division 5 Group 3, Boherlahan Dualla and Mullinahone finished level at 0-19 to 1-16. Grangemockler Ballyneale defeated Ballylooby Castlegrace by 1-14 to 1-8.

In Division 6 Group 1, Rosegreen defeated St Patricks by 1-13 to 0-9 while Knockshegowna recorded a 3-13 to 2-9 win over Clerihan. In Division 6 Group 2, Ballingarry overcame Cappawhite on a 1-19 to 1-16 scoreline while Borrisokane defeated Cahir by 2-14 to 1-12. In Division 6 Group 3, Gortnahoe Glengoole had a comprehensive 5-18 to 0-4 win over Ballybacon Grange. Skeheenarinky defeated Thurles Gaels by 0-14 to 2-5 while Killenaule proved too strong for Kilruane MacDonaghs, winning 3-24 to 1-15.

Congratulations to Nenagh Eire Og’s Sam O’Farrell who was named on the 2026 Electric Ireland GAA Higher Education Rising Stars Hurling Team of the Year.

A number of Tipperary referees and officials represented the county on the intercounty stage in Allianz League action last weekend. Anthony Owens served as sideline official for the Laois v Kerry Allianz Hurling League Division 2 Final. Derek O’Mahoney was time official for Down v Wexford in the Allianz Football League Division 3 Final. David Grogan was Hawkeye official for the Allianz Football League Division 1 Final between Kerry and Donegal.

The March Tipperary GAA Clubs Draw took place last Friday March 27th in the Norebrook Lounge Clonakenny.

South Tipp Hospice Movement (STMH) has launched a dedicated Children’s and Adolescents Grief Support for young people aged 4 to 18 who experienced bereavement. GAA+, the GAA’s wholly owned live and on-demand streaming platform, last week launched its 2026 Season Pass and exclusive 40-match broadcast schedule in Croke Park. Season passes for Irish based users are now on sale for €95 from http://www.GAAplus.ie and GAA members can receive a 10% discount via Foireann. Current GAA+ season pass subscribers will be contacted separately with further instructions. Matches are available to buy individually for €15 or as a ‘3for2’ bundle for €30. All care-giving locations will again receive access free of charge via the HSE and Nursing Homes Ireland. A GAA club pass is priced at €150 and commercial premises pass at €300 (appendix 2). The wholly owned platform will reinvest 83 cents of every euro generated in the development of Gaelic games across coaching, local club, county and player welfare aid.

Tipperary GAA extends its deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Paddy Nolan (Loughmore-Castleiney) who passed away recently. Paddy was a prominent footballer for Tipperary. He was a member of the 1955 Minor Football panel that claimed the Munster title that year before defeating Mayo in the Semi Final. They were defeated by Dublin in the Final. Paddy was also Minor again for Tipperary in 1956 before going on to play Senior Football for Tipperary in the early 1960s. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Tipperary GAA extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Pat O’Connor (Moyle Rovers) who has passed to his eternal reward. Pat will always be remembered for his kindness and friendly manner to all who met him, both in Monroe and beyond. His commitment to Moyle Rovers and all things GAA was unwavering and he will be sadly missed. Such was his dedication to Moyle Rovers that he was honoured as the inaugural Club Person of the Year at the South Tipp GAA Awards only last month. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
