MUNSTER U21 HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
Commiserations to the Tipperary U21 hurlers who experienced a difficult evening on Leeside when losing out to Cork 2-23 to 1-13 in the Bord Gais Energy Munster Under 21 Hurling Championship Final last Wednesday night. Though starting brightly the lads never really to the pitch of the game and will now face Leinster winners Galway in the All-Ireland semi-final on the August Bank holiday weekend. Shane Neville (Lattin-Cullen) was the Tipp goalscorer late on in the game.
CLUB FIXTURES
This weekend there are a number of final round fixtures and also semi-finals in the Tipperary Water County Hurling and Football Leagues as we count down towards the resumption of club championship action. REFEREES
Well done to our referees in action last weekend where Sean Lonergan (Moyle Rovers) was in charge of the All-Ireland Junior Football semi-final between Kilkenny and Galway in Nowlan Park on Saturday. Then on Sunday in Páirc Tailteann, Navan, Derek O’Mahoney (Ardfinnan) was in the middle when Laois and Monaghan met in Round 4 of the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.
This weekend Fergal Horgan (Knockavilla-Donaskeigh Kickhams) is in charge of the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Quarter-Final between Clare and Wexford in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday, July 14th at 3pm.
SEMPLE STADIUM
Semple Stadium looking tremendous last Sunday for the Leinster Final will once again be busy this weekend as it hosts the All-Ireland Hurling quarter-final clash between Kilkenny and Limerick at 2pm. The Electric Minor game between Galway and Kilkenny will throw in at 12 noon.
Well done to all the stadium staff for the huge amount of effort in the past few weeks in ensuring the playing surface and grounds are in top shape for all the games taking place there.
CAMOGIE
Congratulations to Cait Devane (Clonoulty-Rossmore) who has been named Camogie’s Player of the Month for June.
Best wishes to the Tipperary senior camogie team against Offaly in the Liberty Insurance Senior Championship Group 2 in the Camogie Grounds, the Ragg, this Saturday, July 14th at 5pm.
In last Saturdays fixture they had to yield to a stronger Cork outfit on a scoreline of 1-27 to 1-12.
The Tipperary Intermediates game against Antrim didn’t go ahead as Antrim conceded.
LADIES GAELIC FOOTBALL
Best wishes to the Tipperary Ladies Football team in the TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship Group 1, Round 1 game in MacDonagh Park, Nenagh this Saturday, July 14th where they will play Kerry with throw-in at 1pm.
Tipperary are the 2017 TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate champions and will be eagerly looking forward to senior championship campaign.
TIPPERARY GAA CLUBS DRAW
The July GAA draw will be held this Friday night, July 13th, in conjunction with Cappawhite GAA Club in Armshaws Bar, Cappawhite. A Skoda or Renault car, holiday and cash prizes to be won on the night.
TEAM TIPPERARAY GAA RACE DAY
The days are getting closer to the Team Tipperary GAA Race Day at the Galway Races on Monday, July 30th. This is our fourth Galway Races venture continuing very successful outings for the past 3 years.
The Galway Races Summer Festival is renowned as a premier and most colourful racing festival. While it is a major sporting event, it also appeals to a much wider audience than just the racing fans. With the Killanin Stand Suites, there is something for everyone whether you are entertaining family, friends or business clients. This is the ideal format for mixing business with pleasure, whilst surrounded by the atmosphere and excitement that is the Galway Races.
Development plans for 2018 and onwards are in progress and the Team Tipperary GAA Race Day is now firmly established as a successful fundraising venture. A new car park in Dr. Morris Park for 200 cars has been completed and is a wonderful addition to the facility. Planning is being submitted too, hopefully by mid-2018, for new facilities in the Kinane (Old) Stand as part of the Centre of Excellence adjacent to Dr. Morris Park.
We are also supporting LIT on their Thurles Campus plans which are well advanced for a new all-weather pitch which will be a welcome addition to Gaelic games in Tipperary and further afield, so exciting times ahead.

KELLOGGS CÚL CAMPS
The GAA Kelloggs Cúl Camps are well under way at various locations for kids from 6 to 13 years of age across the county and run each day from 10am to 2.30pm each day at the various locations.
Experienced and trained coaches will provide fun activities in the realms of Football, Hurling, Camogie and Rounders at each location.
GAA SPORTS EVENING
This Wednesday night, July 11th, Hayes Hotel will play host to a GAA Sports evening with former Tipperary hurling managers. This is all part of the annual Thurles Sports Festival. The speakers on the night include Michael ‘Babs’ Keating, Donie Nealon, Len Gaynor and Fr. Tom Fogarty. The event will be chaired by Stevie O’Donnell (Tipp Mid West Radio) who will introduce the speakers and discuss the importance of the GAA in Tipperary. A panel discussion will then take place with each manager discussing their time with Tipperary, recalling old stories and discussing the future of Tipperary hurling. This is a free event and will begin at 7.30 pm in the Davin Room.
Tommy Barrett, Secretary of Thurles Sports Festival discusses this event, ‘This is really a night of celebration when we take time to look back and acknowledge great leaders who have contributed to making Tipperary the Premier County. We are privileged to have Babs, Donie, Len and Fr. Tom in attendance on the night and we look forward to hearing them reflect on their time as Tipperary hurling manager. I encourage all Tipperary supporters to mark the date in their diary as it promises to be a very special evening in the birthplace of the GAA’.
