Hot on the heels of Corks Footballers seventy two years winning stranglehold over Tipperary well and truly broken and consigned to history, Tipp’s Senior footballers now face a bigger challenge with the attention now switching to a clash with Kerry in next Sunday’s Munster Final in Fitzgerald Stadium Killarney.

In what can only be described as a daunting task for any county going into what is the lions den of Kerry football, Tipperary they will have to be 110% focused right from the throw in for the full seventy minutes to have any chance of toppling the beaten All Ireland finalists.

Going for their fourth Munster Title in a row, Kerry will be raging hot favourites and while they may not be saying it publicly they will going all out to use the game as a launch pad for bigger things down the road with one eye firmly fixed on another crack at Dublin.

A massive performance will be needed by Tipp land the silverware which we last won in 1935 and if we can replicate the intensity and support play and in their faces type of play we showed against Cork they will be well capable of upsetting the odds.

No strangers to the bigger stage with numerous Munster Minor, U21 and All Ireland winners in their ranks and under the captaincy of the powerful Peter Acheson along with leaders and match winners like Brian Fox, Mikey Quinlivan, Conor Sweeney, Phillip Austin, George Hannigan, Robbie Kiely and Kevin O’Halloran, Tipp supporters can rest assured that everything will be left on the field.

We wish everyone the best of luck on Sunday and hopefully Tipp followers will travel in their thousands to support the boys in what could be the start of two massive weekends for Tipp GAA.

FRIENDS OF TIPPERARY FOOOTBALL

Following last weeks Friends of Tipperary Football Board meeting, the dates for their annual Mr Mister sponsored golf classic were finalised and it will go ahead on the weekend of Friday August 5th and Saturday August 6th at Thurles Golf Club.

Now in its twentieth year, this is the Friends of Tipperary’s major fund raiser with all proceeds being ploughed back into the development and promotion of Football at all levels within the county. Again their will be good prizes and hospitality on offer and we ask all GAA Clubs, Golf Societies and other sport enthusiasts to support what is now a well established weekend of golf on the sporting calendar.

Team entries cost 120 euro with tee boxes costing 50 euro and again all support will be greatly appreciated. To arrange entry and tee times supporters should contact golf classic coordinator Martin O’Dwyer at 086 2549154.

Other initiatives brought to the meeting included a proposed membership of the Friends of Tipperary with various match tickets to be won throughout the year along with the setting up of a Dublin based branch of the Friends of Tipperary Football. Full details will be presented at the next meeting.
