U13 Roinn A St. Colmcille’s N.S., Templemore beat St. Peter and Paul’s N.S.

A phone call at 10.07am confirmed that the new set of jerseys had left the Azzurri factory just outside Waterford city and the delivery should arrive at Leahy Park, Cashel just in time for the U13 Roinn A county football final. The new set of jerseys was green and donned with the crest of St. Colmcille’s Primary School, Templemore. Whether they would be worn for the first time depended on a courier named Niall and the traffic on the N24. As Niall left Waterford, the boys in Templemore tucked into an early lunch, packed up their bags and all 89 pupils and 15 staff boarded two of Ned Callanan’s best buses. The journey to Cashel was a familiar one. Only two years ago this journey was also taken when St. Colmcille’s won their first ever Roinn A football title. The opposition today was also the same, St. Peter and Pauls, Clonmel. As the buses arrived in Leahy Park, so did Niall and the new set of jerseys were handed out to 28 young footballers who grew six inches taller in their new attire. Coaches Denis Kelly, Conor Doyle and Kieran Healy led the team through an intense warm up before sharing words of encouragement and inspiration that each coach hoped would be the difference between winning and losing.

Within minutes of the start, St. Colmcille’s had the ball in the net as Ali Aissou proved he is the man for the big occasion. Surprisingly this was the first time all season that Templemore scored first. Against Scoil Ailbhe, Tipperary Monastery and Two Mile Borris, they had been slow to start and an early lead was new territory. It got even better for Templemore as Conor Cadell somehow magiced enough space for himself to kick the first point of the game. It was evident that the boys in green meant business and if St. Peter and Pauls were to have any say in the match, they were going to have to earn it the hard way. Sure enough the boys from Clonmel were to answer the challenge by scoring a vital goal mid-way through the first half. This however would prove to be their only score of the half as Eoin Quinn, Jack Nevin and Marco Quinlan, on the half back line for Templemore, attacked every ball that came their way and cut off all supply to the inside forwards. The strength of the fabric of Killian Fennell’s new jersey was then tested when he burst through the Clonmel defence as he was pulled to the ground. Lorcan Roche calmly slotted the ball over the bar to the delight of a large Templemore crowd in the packed stand. Another foul led to Templemore being awarded a penalty as the first half neared an end. A super save from the Clonmel ‘keeper seemed to give them the impetus to push on as Templemore found themselves defending wave after wave of attack. Not to be outdone by his opposite number, Shane Sweeney produced the save of the match, diving to his right in what now appears to have been the turning point in this hard fought battle. The final kick of the first half was one of the sweetest. Diarmuid Delaney found a yard of space to float a priceless point between the sticks leaving three points between the teams as the half time whistle blew. The second half continued in much the same vein. Ewan Scott and Ali Aissou pointed for Templemore after some wonderful interplay. St. Peter and Pauls responded with two points of their own. Neither team was willing to concede while the supporters were enthralled in a wonderful spectacle. Then a lethal blow. A poacher’s goal from Ciarán McCormack seemed to put distance between the teams as Templemore now led 2-5 to 1-2. The final five minutes were played out within metres from Shane Sweeney’s well-guarded goal. The full back line of Niall Moloney, Stephen Cahill and Darragh Doyle provided an exhibition of defending as they blocked, tackled, dived and refused to allow anyone breach one of the meanest defences seen this year. Although one final point was conceded to St. Peter and Pauls it would prove too little too late as the referee blew a whistle which ignited memorable celebrations. Captain Martin Bergin, who played a pivotal role as sweeper in the second half, accepted the trophy from Cumann na mBunscol Secretary Aodán Wrenn, a trophy which St. Colmcille’s has now won twice in three years. Not bad for a school who played Roinn C a mere six years ago. The brand new jerseys were removed and placed in the gear bag, soiled and damp. Their first outing will never be forgotten. Perhaps in the future they will be worn on days that don’t go so well. But for the moment, the new set of jerseys are undefeated, priceless and in need of a wash!

U13 Roinn B Gaelscoil Durlas beat Grange N.S.

Faoi dheireadh thiar thall tháinig an lá mór do na buachaillí faoi 13. Bhí Gaelscoil Bhríde ag imirt Grange i gCraobh an Chontae. Bhí an t-uafás oibre curtha isteach ag gach éinne agus bhíomar go léir ar bís ag súil leis an lá mór. Thugamar aghaidh ar Chaiseal luath maidin an chluiche. Bhí an cluiche ag tosú ar 10:30. Thógamar grianghraf agus rinneamar roinnt cleachtadh. Bhíomar réidh chun troda! Bhí an fhoireann Dean, James, Conor, Dara, Toby, Liam(Capt) James, Daragh, Luke, Oisín, Urban, Eimear, Dylan. Chaith an réiteoir an liathróid isteach. Bhuaigh Liam an liathróid i lár na páirce. Bhí an liathróid ag dul ó cheann ceann na páirce. Cluiche crua cothrom a bhí ann gan aon liathróid á bhuachaint go héasca. Tar éis cúpla nóiméad fuair Grange an chéad chúilín. Fuair Urban an céad scór do Ghaelscoil tar éis Grange a bheith faoi bhrú. Cic amach mór agus chuaigh Grange ar an ionsaí agus bhí Gaelscoil faoi bhrú ansin. Ghlac Grange le cúilín. Tháinig Chloe isteach i gcomhair James sna cúlaithe. Ach tar éis cúilín Grange tháinig Gaelscoil ar ais suas an pháirc agus bhíomar, Gaelscoil suas ag leath am le scór 0-3 go dtí 0-2, le cúilíní ó Daragh Stakelum agus James Armstrong. Ní raibh mórán idir na fóirne agus bhí a fhios again go mbeadh orainn bheith iontach maith chun an corn a ardú. Thug gach imreoir aghaidh ar an bpáirc don dara leath, réidh chun gach rud a thabhairt ar son a scoile. Tháinig liathróid isteach ó Liam Ó Chionnaoith go dtí Dylan MacLochlainn agus thug Dylan liathróid álainn chuig Eimear Nic Craith. Gluaiseacht den scoth! Bhí sí os comhair an chúil ach chuir sí é ar foraíl, faraoir. Tar éis an ionsaí sin, thosaigh Gaelscoil ag imirt níos fearr. Tar éis cúpla nóiméad, buaileadh liathróid isteach sa chearnóg, go hard is go criunn. Tógadh cic dó, ach shabháil an cúlbáire ó Grange é. Tháinig sé chuig Urban ach níor éirigh leis é a chur san eangach. Ansin tháinig se chuig Lúc Ó Fógartaigh agus sháigh sé é san eangach sa chúinne barr ar dheis i stíl sacair. Níos fearr ná Robin Van Persie! Ansin chuaigh Gaelscoil ar an ionsaí arís agus chuir Luke liathróid gleoite isteach agus smeach Dylan MacLochlainn é thar an cúlbáire. Bhí cúlaithe Gaelscoil ar fheabhas. Sheas said an fód agus bhris said síos ionsaithe Grange arís is arís eile. Chuaigh Gaelscoil ar stríoc scórála ansin. Cuireadh amn liathróid ó imreoir go himreoir fad na páirce. Aimsíodh daoine le pasanna agus ciceanna cruinne. Fuair Oisín trí chúilín agus fuair James Armstrong cúl freisin. Chuaigh Gaelscoil ar ionsaí eile. Bhí an liathróid buailte isteach sa chearnóg agus léim Dylan McLochlainn suas agus rug sé air. Thug sé pas chuig Aidan Stakelum. Bhí sé sáite san eangach ag Aidan. Tar éis sin, chreid nó ná creid bhí cúl eile ag Gaelscoil Bhríde ó Lúc Ó Fogairtaigh. Cuireadh na hionadaithe go léir isteach. Shéid an réiteoir an fheadóg deireanach. D’imigh na himreoirí Gaelscoile fiáin. Bronnadh an sciath ar an gcaptaen Liam Ó Cionnaoith. Tógadh an t-uafás pictiúrí dínn leis an gcorn. Ba mhaith linn tréaslú le foireann Scoil na Gráinsí as an iarracht oll mhór a chuir said isteach. Throid said go dtí an deireadh agus níór éirigh said as go dtí an fheadóg deiridh. Beidh lá eile acu gan dabht ar bith! Foireann Gaelscoil Durlas: Liam Ó Cionnaoith (Captaen), Dylan Mac Lochlainn, Nathan Ó Fógartaigh, Eoghan Ó Riain, James De Buitléir, Mark Ó Murchú, Éanna De Búrca, Colm Ó Leathlobhair, Danny Ó Lonagáin, Luke Ó Fógartaigh, James Tréanlámhach, Toby Ó Luain, Oisin Ó Briain, Urban Ó Nualláin, Connor Ó Ceannuain, Eimear Nic Craith, Chloe Ní Shlatara, Darragh Mac Cathaigh, Darragh Stáicliúm, Aidan Ó Ciardha, Dean Ó Fainnín, Aidan Stáicliúm

U13 Roinn C Moycarkey N.S. beat Ballylooby N.S.

On Tuesday the 12th of November in Leahy Park Cashel, Ballylooby were set to meet Moycarkey in the U13 Roinn C county football final. In our first match, Ballylooby lost to Moycarkey and we were coming into the county final as the underdogs. All the players were anxious as we know the scale of the task that faced us. Finally after all the training, all the preparation and all the effort the team put in to get to the County Final, the day had finally arrived. Before the match, we got a pep-talk from our coach who told us the team, the positions we were playing in and our final instructions. We left the dressing room, did some drills and then we headed for the pitch to play our biggest match of the year. As we ran onto the pitch our supporters cheered us on. All 12 of the starting players got into their positions. Finally the ball was thrown in and the county final had started. Ballylooby got off to a bright start but did not take their chances which cost us heavily as Moycarkey hit us with 2 quick goals. We finally got off the mark with Zach Keating, who was having a great game in midfield, scoring a vital 1-1 to put Ballylooby back in contention. The referee blew the whistle to end the first half with the score 4-0 to 1-1 with everything to play for in the second half. Ballylooby started the second half with great determination and were rewarded with an inspiring goal from midfielder Patrick Morrissey after a storming run. The influential Shane Crosse then added to Ballylooby’s tally with a fine goal. Liam Ryan came off the bench to snatch a very neat point during a good spell of play for the team in red and black. But Ballylooby’s rally of scores did not last for long. Goalkeeper Tadhg Velthuysen, after a string of remarkable saves, was forced to pick the ball out of the net after a fine Moycarkey goal. It was here that Ballylooby’s ‘never-say-die’ spirit showed itself once more. Corner forward Shannon Morrissey, showing all the skills of a future Tipperary ladies football star, fired in a powerful shot but was only rewarded with a point after the Moycarkey goalkeeper brilliantly parried it over the bar. This was followed by another 3 points by the relentless midfield duo of Patrick Morrissey and Shane Crosse. A remarkable comeback was on the cards until Moycarkey finally sealed their victory with 2 late scores. It was a crushing defeat for Ballylooby but we all took pride in our performance and took consolation in the fact that we won Roinn D last year and had the honour of playing in the county final this year. It was a fantastic achievement for our school and one we will not forget. Ballylooby Team: Tadhg Velthuysen, Dylan Curry, Nadia Keating, Billy Gleeson, Jack O’Shea (captain), Zaching Keating, Patrick Morrissey, Shane Crosse, Michael Reidy, Cathal O’Gorman, Billy Coffey, Shannon Morrissey. Subs: Billy English, Hannah Berry, Ciara Morrissey, Roisin Condon, Stephen O’Leary, Laim Ryan, Cian Fitzpatrick Seán O’ Brien

U13 Roinn D Knockavilla N.S. beat Gaelscoil Nenagh

The Ragg was the venue for this thrilling encounter between Knockavilla N.S. and Gaelscoil Nenagh in the decider of the U13 D Cumann na mBunscol Football Championship. Both teams had brought support, thus creating an exciting atmosphere worthy of the occasion. Willie Clohessy promptly got proceedings underway and the battle commenced. Knockavilla were first to make the break through with a well taken point from Devon Ryan. However Gaelscoil Nenagh responded in turn with a well taken point of their own before further points from Devon Ryan and Lorcan Carr edged Knockavilla into the lead at halftime. Immediately after the restart Gaelscoil Nenagh pointed to leave the narrowest of margins between the sides. Barry McCarthy then raised the white flag once more for Knockavilla to regain their two point advantage. However the lead was to be short lived as Gaelscoil Nenagh pounced to score an emphatic goal, thus giving them the lead for the first time. The momentum was now with the Gaelscoil and it looked as though it would be their day. But the Knockavilla lads raised their game again and got their just rewards when Lorcan Carr levelled proceedings. Soon after, Stephen Browne was on hand to finish off a well worked goal for Knockavilla to firmly swing the momentum back in their favour. This in fact proved to be the last score of the game as a resilient Knockavilla side managed to survive the onslaught of pressure from Gaelscoil Nenagh who did everything in their power to equalise. However it was not to be and Knockavilla held out for a three point win, leaving Hugo Bourke with the opportunity to lift the trophy aloft to the delight of the Knockavilla following. Knockavilla N.S: Eric Ryan, Reuben Bourke, Lorcan Carr, Ben Loughman, Hugo Bourke, Joe Fitzgerald, Stephen Browne, Barry McCarthy, Ben Ryan, Devon Ryan, Seamus Heffernan, Conor Horgan, Jack Ryan, Jordan Horgan, Bryan Buckley, Seanie Lambe, Josh Browne, Brendan Barron.

U13 Roinn F Lios na mBroc N.S. beat Borrisokane N.S.

The 12th November 2013 will be a day long remembered in Lisnamrock N.S., the day we won the County Final! At 10am, a nervous but excited group of children and teachers set off on their journey to The Ragg to play Borrisokane N.S. in the County Football Final. A tremendous group of parents and supporters followed, which was great to see. Lisnamrock was first out on the pitch and after the warm up and the pep talk from Mr. Paddy Ivors were complete, there was nothing left to do but pray that each child would play both fairly and to their potential. Lisnamrock got off to a great start and won a free in the second minute, which Conor Vaughan narrowly missed, but it wasn’t long before the nerves disappeared and we were on the scoreboard. David Ivors passed the ball to Dylan Kealy who skilfully tapped it over the bar. Shortly after this, Dylan gave a sweet pass into Declan Hayes who scored his first point. Borrisokane tried hard to get the ball up to their forwards, but with a powerhouse of Niall Fitzgerald and Dara Ryan in defence, it was not long before the ball was back up to our midfield players. Conor then scored a great point from mid-field. With Borrisokane yet to score, things were looking good for us, when Declan got another fine point. Then Declan hit the crossbar, but the ball came out and David did not hesitate in sticking the ball in the back of the net. Then Dylan was in hard luck when he kicked a shot narrowly wide of the goal. Borrisokane won a free, but it was cleverly intercepted by Declan, who passed on to Conor, who scored another beautiful point. Declan got another point, having received a great pass from David and then came our second goal which was struck with determination by Aidan Ryan, who kept great pressure on the Borrisokane players throughout the match. Conor scored another point and the half time score was 2:09 to no score. The second half got underway and Lisnamrock were playing against the wind, but that did not deter the lads. They gave everything and when Conor got a free, we were off again with another point to our tally. Borrisokane, to give them credit, played considerably better in the second half. Ben Corcoran proved his worth as a great goalkeeper, with a superb save, giving Borrisokane a 45 which they pointed. Jack White came on for an injured David and it was not long before he had the Borrisokane goalkeeper under pressure, with a fine kick on target, but good goalkeeping saved them. Aidan, Niall, Dara and Declan worked like Trojans at keeping the ball out of our half. Borrisokane won a penalty in which Conor made a great save. We knew, at this stage, it was going to be our day! Borrisokane never gave up and found the net with five minutes to go. Kieran Lyons, who came on for Dylan, worked hard but it was Conor who scored a greta goal in the dying minutes. At this stage, Gemma Blackmore and Ciara Fitzgerald replaced Declan and Aidan with Aaron Phelan and Gerard Ryan replacing Dara and Niall and all showed great passion on the field working hard to ensure victory was ours. The game finished with a score line of Lisnamrock N.S. 3:11 to Borrisokane 1:02. There was a sense of exhilaration amongst the teachers, parents and supporters. It has been a long time since our school last won a County Final, a great achievement for a small rural school, such as ours. The children showed great sportsmanship the match and championship as a whole. Afterwards, team captain, Dara Ryan gave a lovely speech, in which he thanked Paddy Ivors (our trainer), the teachers, parents and supporters. He also showed great respect to Borrisokane giving three cheers to them. The children were brought to The Ragg where they were treated to a meal and some refreshments, a real treat for them! We can now look forward to the hurling championship in the hopes of doing the double! Lios na mBroc Team: Ben Corcoran, Dara Ryan, Niall Fitzgerald, Aidan Ryan, Conor Vaughan, Declan Hayes, Dylan Kealy, David Ivors, Jack White, Ciara Fitzgerald, Gemma Blackmore, Gerard Ryan, Aaron Phelan and Kieran Lyons.

U13 Roinn G Lismackin N.S. beat Ballinree N.S.

Ballinree N.S. qualified for their first ever County Football Final after an exciting win over Boher N.S. in the North Final. The County Final took place in the Ragg on Tuesday November 12th and Lismackin N.S. were the opposition. The game started at a hectic pace with the ball going from one end of the field to the other with Kieran Boyle getting the first goal for Ballinree N.S. This was followed by another goal for Ballinree by Patrick Whelan. Lismackin came back and scored a goal and a point, leaving the score 2-0 to 1-1 in favour of Ballinree. The Ballinree trio of Joseph Connolly, Darragh Spillane & Enda Shanahan were keeping the Lismackin forwards at bay. Coming up to half time, Eoin Healy scored for Ballinree but Lismackin got a goal back right at half time to leave the score, Ballinree 3-0, Lismackin 2-1. Lismackin started the second half much the better team and scored 5 points without reply to go ahead by 3 points but Darragh Spillane then equalised with a great goal for Ballinree. Rory Brislane was having a great game in the middle of the field and winning a lot of ball but Lismackin went ahead again scoring another goal. Ballinree was not giving up and with that in mind Darragh Spillane soloed up the field to score his second goal to level the match at full time – this was very exciting and heart rendering stuff for all supporters present. Extra time had to be played and at this stage Ballinree introduced a number of subs, Stephen Cantwell, David Haverty, Billy Moran, Lauren Ryan, & James Duff. 5 minutes later at the end of the first period of extra time it still remained level. In the second period of extra time, Lismackin went 4 points ahead after scoring a great goal and a point. Ballinree came back once again with a goal from Darragh Spillane , now leaving them trailing by only a single point with 1 minute to go, but Lismackin finished the stronger and got two late goals to deny Ballinree their first ever County Football Final. What an exciting and sporting game of football! Ballinree Team: Joseph Connolly, Kieran Boyle, Paddy Whelan,Darragh Spillane, Enda Shanahan, Eoin Healy, Rory Brislane, Stephen Cantwell, David Haverty, Billy Moran, Lauren Ryan, James Duff, David Sado, Ella Carey.

U11 Roinn A Carrick CBS beat Tipperary Town CBS

On Wednesday 8th November we went up to Monroe to play a County Final, we went to play Tipp Town. At 12.30pm the referee called for the 2 captains. Our captain was Sean Daly, so he went up and shook hands with the other captain. Tipp Town won the toss and picked the way in their favour. When the ball was thrown in, we got the ball and kicked it up to the forwards who kept the ball up there for a while then we finally got a goal from Danny Murphy. After the goal the pressure was kind of on us now. We had the ball a lot, we kept trying to get our scores, and then finally we got another goal again from Danny Murphy! So then Tipp Town woke up and played better and got a goal. When they got the goal the pressure was back on again. After a few minutes we got another goal, this time from Sean Daly and a point from Danny Murphy before Tipp Town got another goal. So it went into half time 3-1 to 2-0. We made 4 changes at half time before we played in the second half. The second half was much tighter but again we scored early and again it was Danny Murphy. A few minutes later we got a point from me (Sean Daly). There wasn’t as much scores in the second half as there was in the first half. Tipp Town only got 2 points in the second half. When the final whistle went we went crazy. It was a great feeling to have just after winning a County Final. When we got the trophy we got in a bunch and started singing ‘Champions’. Then we did the same on the bus. The following week Mr. Cotter (Principal) and Tony Hogan (Coach) brought us to Supermacs. Carrick CBS Team: Kyle Quinn, Zach Murphy, Evan Foley, Conor Wells, Sean Power, Dylan Casey, Aidan Friend, Kieran Barry, Danny Prout, Danny Murphy, Sean Daly (Captain), Dylan Murphy, Owen Dunne-Harrigan, Adam Kerwick

U11 Roinn A1 Carrick CBS beat Scoil Ailbhe

On October 17th the U/11 A1 Team went up to Cashel. We had to play three matches. It was 11 aside and we had 3 substitutes. Our first game was against Templemore. We played very well and only conceded 1 point! The final score was 5-2 to 0-1 and Luke Butler scored 3 goals! Our next match was against St. Mary’s Clonmel. It was very one sided. Our goalkeeper didn’t even get to touch the ball. The final score was 7-4 to 0-0. That win meant we were in the County Final. Before we played the final we had our lunch and watched the match to see who we were playing and Scoil Ailbhe won. So that meant we were playing Scoil Ailbhe in the County Final. We had a good first half but we could only manage to get 2 scores. One goal and one point both by Kieran O’Donnell. But they came back at us with an early goal in the first half and then a point straight from kick out. So we were level. It was very intense and it was level for most of the second half. But then with about 2 minutes left Adam Keane scored an amazing goal from the halfway line, he went for a point but it lobbed just over the goalkeepers head. When the referee blew the final whistle I booted the ball into the air and we all went crazy. After the match our Captain Nigel O’Keeffe received the cup and we went crazy again. When we got back to school we got to sing on the intercom. It was a great day. Carrick CBS Squad: Jack Hickey (goalie), Trivo Tijanic, Gavin O’Keeffe, Nigel O’Keeffe (Captain), Nathan Booth, Ryan Nolan, Adam Keane, Kieran O’Donnell, Senan Campbell, Charlie O’Sullivan, Luke Butler, Josh O’Sullivan, Michael Gough & Jake Maher.

U11 Roinn E Leugh N.S. beat Rossmore N.S.

On Friday 8th of November the pupils of Leugh N.S. were excited to be in a county final against Rossmore N.S. The pupils from Leugh had already made it to two hurling county finals last June but unfortunately had lost on both counts, so to be in a football county final with a chance to set things right was a great opportunity. The team was nervous because Rossmore had already beaten us in the u13 football, so we did not know what lay ahead. We wanted a little bit of revenge but we knew Rossmore were not going to just let us win. We arrived at Littleton GAA field and saw our fans. They had their faces painted and a lot of flags. We were nervous going into the dressing rooms. Rossmore were arriving in their bus but were not looking nervous. While they were getting out of their bus we were running onto the pitch with our trainer Paddy Moore and teacher Louise McCullagh. Then, while we were warming up, Rossmore came running out of their dressing room. The trainers were talking to both teams, and after that both teams ran onto the pitch and referee Hugh Coghlan blew the whistle. He threw the ball up in the air and Leugh captain, Michael Scully, caught the ball and hit it down to Philip O’Connell and he scored a point. The goalkeeper for Rossmore kicked the ball to Stephen Ferncombe and he soloed down the field and scored. Leugh NS gave away four frees and Stephen Ferncombe scored them all, later on in the match. Daniel Ruddy gave a ball into Philip O’Connell and he scored a goal. In the last minute of the first half Michael Scully gave a hand-pass to Conor Ruddy and he put it over the bar. The referee blew the whistle for half-time and the score was level. Róisín Bambrick, Andrew O’Reilly and Gavin Shorley also had a terrific first half. At the start of the second half, Róisín made way for Eoin O’Connell to come on, and he settled into the forwards, whilst Daniel Ruddy moved into the backs. Rossmore were finding it hard to keep up with Leugh because they found a new gear and pulled ahead. Conor Ruddy found Philip O’Connell with a lovely hand pass and Philip sent on the ball to Eoin, who stuck it in the net. Rossmore came back with another score, but Eoin O’Connell scored another goal. Eventually it was all over and the Leugh School fans ran onto the pitch. Michael Scully, our captain, made a speech and accepted the cup, and then we went to Supermacs. The final score was Leugh 4-6: Rossmore 2-5. It was a great match.

U11 Roinn E1 Leugh N.S. beat Loughmore N.S.

The county final between Leugh and Loughmore took place at the Ragg on October 16th at 1pm. It was a very wet and windy day but the players were brave and motivated and didn’t mind the weather. All the players were in the dressing room with Louise McCullagh, the teacher. Then they ran out onto the pitch, feeling excited and nervous. They started their warm-up with Mrs. McCullagh, some stretches and took a few shots on goal. Loughmore were warming up too. It looked to the Leugh players that Loughmore were a very strong team. The match (or the battle) started and it was not going to be long before the first score. Conor Wall scored for Leugh NS in the first minute, quickly followed by Michael Madden (also a Leugh player). Soon it was half time and it was 4 goals and 0 points to Leugh NS. We were in the lead. At half-time the weather was atrocious so the referee Willie Clohessey called off play for a short while. Once there was an improvement, we went back onto the pitch. At the start of the second half Loughmore got a point, but Conor Wall was doing well and scored a few goals. It was going to be hard for Loughmore to catch up. All of the supporters were shouting to the team. The whistle went and the final score was Leugh 7 goals and 2 points; Loughmore 2 points. It was a great match for Leugh NS as they had lost two hurling county finals in Semple Stadium last June. It was great, and both teams had fun.

U11 Roinn F Moneygall N.S. beat Tankerstown N.S.

On the 8th of November in Littleton there was a great match for spectators. It was Moneygall vs. Tankerstown in the u11 Football County final. In the first quarter Sean Kenneally was fouled and struck the resulting free beautifully over the bar. TankersTown attacked down field but Aodhán Ryan made a fantastic save for Moneygall. James Carroll struck a lovely point and it was nip and tuck for the rest of the first half. Leaving the score at half time Moneygall 0-02 Tankers Town 0-00. In the second half Moneygall scored two goals in the first five minutes. Cathal Greene struck the first goal. James Carroll scored a goal following a great run. Then a while later Sean Moroney punched a great goal. Then Jack Ryan had a rare chance to get forward from defence and he too popped a point. But there was more to come. Sean Kenneally scored another beauty from a free. Cathal Greene then added to his tally when he scored from a free to widen the gap. Tankerstown battled hard and were rewarded a goal. The game was over and the final score was Moneygall 3-05 to Tankerstown 1-00. Moneygall’s captain Aodhán Ryan was presented with the shield. At the end of the day it was not one person that won the game it was a big team effort that won the game for Moneygall. It was a brilliant display from goalie to forward involving all twelve players. Huge thanks have to go to our coach Mr. Egan and our principal Mrs. Kirwan.

U13 Roinn E Ladies Football Mullinahone N.S. beat Bansha N.S.

Mullinahone and Bansha were appearing in the finals again this year. Bansha won the lower division last year and Mullinahone were defeated in this division’s final last year. Mullinahone had to line out without one of their star players, Emma Cody who was ill on the day. Mullinahone started well when Louise Fallon sent the ball soaring over the bar for the opening score. Louise passed the ball to lively Holly Carroll who quickly scored another point for Mullinahone. Holly took a free and with the help of Saoirse McNamara it sailed into the back of the net. These scores settled the determined Mullinahone girls who were never going to give up easy having being beaten in quite a few finals in the previous three years. Megan Tynan in the Bansha goal worked hard. Ellie Peters and Niamh Roche were unlucky not to score after a few lively runs at the Mullinahone goal but Katelyn Reilly and Marion Gillman were very strong in defence for Mullinahone and cleared many balls up the field. The strong Amy Doyle scored another two points. Holly was reading play very well and scored 1-2 before the half time whistle. Mullinahone led 2-7 to 0-0 at half time. Bansha started the second half well. Ellie Peters scored a fine goal for Bansha. Amy Doyle showed her strength when scoring 1-3 in quick succession. Saoirse Lyons made a spirited run after a good pass from Eva and scored a brilliant goal for Bansha. Nicola O’Dwyer made a fine save in goal and cleared some great long balls up the field. Saoirse scored a stunning goal.

Bansha backs were constantly under pressure despite Megan Heffernan, Chloe Quinn and Sally Ann putting in a tremendous effort. Niamh, Olivia, Shannon, Saoirse and Eva battled hard for Bansha. Louise and Joanne Hickey kept the scores rolling in with a point each and Olivia Quinn scored a lovely point from a free for Bansha. Hazel Murray and Louise finished the scoring for Mullinahone with a point each. Sub Caoimhe O’Dwyer played well when introduced for Bansha. U13 Roinn F Ladies Football Clonoulty N.S. beat Kilcash N.S.

Nerves were building in the parish of Clonoulty on the morning of Monday 11th of November. There was a grim and dull start to the day. Nerves get the better of us as we said our prayers .We waited excitedly for our teacher to announce that it was time to leave. Our prayers were said, our gear was ready and we were on our way.

The convoy of cars pulled up in Cashel hurling field. We walked into our dressing room where our jerseys were lined up from 1-16. Our team was called out Anna Kennedy goals, Elena Quirke and Alannah O’Donoghue in backs, Saoirse Quirke and Eimear Bourke mid-field, Mary Therese Mockler and Megan Crosby in forwards. Molly McCarthy, Kate McCarthy, Aoibhinn Quirke, Ella Murphy, Ireana Slattery, Katie Armstrong, Meabhdh Mockler, Mary Schofield and Emily Maher were our substitute players.

We ran out of the dressing room all guns blazing and onto the pitch. During the warm up it was cold and misty but it didn’t dampen our spirits. Lady Luck was with us from the start as Saoirse Quirke Clonoulty N.S captain began the game having won the toss. The whole school was on the side-line waving flags and cheering us on. Parents, teachers even our parish priest came and supported us. As the ref checked his watch, our hearts were pounding out of our chests with adrenalin. That felt like the longest part of the match. The shrill sound of the whistle pierced the air and the game was on. Clonoulty NS opened the scoring with a fine goal from Eimear Bourke having made a dashing run from mid-field. More great scores from Mary Therese Mockler and Megan Crosby saw us advance into the lead. Kilcash were down but not out as the gap between the sides was only 4.1 to 1.2 at half time. The second half began at a blazing tempo. Anna, Alannah and Elena put up a hard fight in the backs and goals. Kilcash fought hard to break the unstoppable force of the Clonoulty forwards but this proved challenging. A few frees here and there were given and taken. There was little anyone could have done to stop the well taken goals of the Clonoulty forwards. At the other end of the field, Elena Quirke and Alannah O’Donoghue kept the Kilcash forwards well under control and in line while Anna Kennedy stood firm on the goal line. Kilcash kept pressing on and forced the Clonoulty mid fielders, Saoirse Quirke and Eimear Bourke back into defense at times. Lady Luck was with us once more as a number of wides from Kilcash kept us on top.

Clonoulty made a number of changes in the second half which kept the team fresh and keen. Molly Mc Carthy, Irenea Slattery and Katie Armstrong added great energy and force to the Clonoulty team and this kept them going to the final whistle. It was a rough and tough match, Kilcash put up a great fight, but one team had to win. The final score line was Clonoulty NS 9.5, Kilcash 2.2. Saoirse Quirke said a brilliant speech. Afterwards we headed to McDonalds for some well-earned food. There was great atmosphere when we came back to school and a feeling that will be remembered for ever.

U11 Roinn C Ladies Football Clerihan N.S. beat Moycarkey N.S.

Clerihan ladies left the school at 1.45 pm and arrived in Leahy Park, Cashel, at 2pm on Tuesday 12th November. After a thorough warm-up they went back into the dressing room, where they received their prized school jerseys. The team was named at this stage. Usually they would be told the team before leaving the school but on this day we decided not to name the team until after the warm up, so as to ensure that the warm-up was done with everyone fully alert and still in with a chance of starting the match. We emphasized that anyone who wasn’t starting would be coming on at half time, as per the rules of Under 11 competition. Following some final instructions from the coaches the girls walked confidently onto the Leahy Park pitch, ready for action. Clerihan started positively with an early goal and a point. Moycarkey hit back with a goal of their own and were beginning to play with confidence. However Clerihan scored a few more goals to take control of the game. Clerihan now were the team playing with confidence and authority. They began to dominate in all areas of the pitch and were in control of proceedings by the mid-way point of the first half. More goals followed as Clerihan began some fantastic football. Moycarkey, to their credit, worked very hard to stem the tide and scored a couple of nice points. However Clerihan hit top gear in the final minutes of the first half, adding some further goals and pulling away. In the second half Moycarkey played some good football and made Clerihan work very hard. However Clerihan added a number of well-worked goals and points. At the final whistle Clerihan N.S. were the County Champions! Even though Clerihan N.S had won by a very large margin Moycarkey never gave up, and played to the final whistle. They deserve great credit for that. The Clerihan girls were overjoyed at the final whistle. It began to sink in that they had won the school’s very first Under 11 County Championship in Ladies Football! It was a proud moment for them, and for the school. Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Secretary Aodan Wrenn, teacher in the school and one of the team coaches, proudly presented the trophy to the Clerihan girls. In a change from normal procedure the trophy was presented to the whole team and not the captain. It was decided by the coaches and by the girls themselves, that it was a team effort that won the County Final therefore the entire team should lift the trophy together at the presentation.

Clerihan Team: Samantha Buckley, Julie Burke, Niamh Laste, Kayleigh Flannery (C), Seadhbhe McGrath, Michelle Cronin, Melanie Doyle, Chloe O’Dwyer, Aoife McGrath.
