Underage Academy

All county squads are currently completing their sixteen week physical development programme in the Sports Lab LIT Thurles. This is the first year using this state of the art venue and it has proven to be a great success. Parents and players gathered for an information night at the venue in November and all were very impressed with the facilities. Sports Lab personnel conduct the sessions each Friday night from six thirty. Thirteen weeks have been completed, with a further three sessions to go.
On completion of the gym programme the county hurling squads will commence with the ASH module of the Academy. Eoin Kelly and Brendan Cummins along with the county management teams will conduct specially designed sessions in Dr Morris Park over the course of the season. These sessions will concentrate on different aspects of the games each week. In conjunction with the ASH programme the Inter Divisional Hurling Tournaments will take place commencing end March. This year Tipperary has requested to enter three county based teams in the Munster U16 Tournament, we await the outcome from this request.
The Inter Divisional football tournaments were completed in November and December. The U14 county football trials are up and running in Dr Morris Park on Thursday nights in preparation for the Jim Power.

Coach Education

We are now in the coach education season and courses are being rolled out throughout the county. Child Award One courses are running in Thurles, Cahir, and Kilruane while Youth Award One courses are ongoing in Clonmel, Dundrum and Nenagh. Anyone wishing to join a course should contact their local Games Development Administrator. We will be running a special Award Two Youth course for coaches and mentors involved in the Academy program over the coming months.

Go Games Blitzes

Clubs are asked to keep an eye out for the commencement of the Go Games U8 and U10 blitzes which will be up and running shortly in various venues throughout the county. These blitzes are very popular with players and parents and the theme of the blitzes is “Fun and Games” for all. Contact your local GDA for dates and times.

Easter Camps

Coaching and Games Development are offering a series of Easter Camps to commence on 22nd March. These camps will be on a limited basis and be dependent on availability of coaches. Clubs should again contact the GDA to apply. A sliotar and football will be presented to each participant at the end of the three day camps. Camps start at 10am and finish at 1pm. The cost per head is €25 so great value on offer for these well received events.
