DAILY STAR SENIOR LEAGUE (round 1)
TIPPERARY 0.10 Offaly 2.16
Tipperary travelled to Carrig/Riverstown in round one of the senior league competition. In blustery conditions and a heavy field Tipperary started brightly with the wind behind them scoring first with a Nicole Walsh free. There was an exchange of points in the first few minutes with Amy Kennedy scoring a great point from an acute angle and a great long range point from Cait Devane. Tipperary increased their lead with points by Coaimhe Kennedy and Nicole Walsh,However Offaly were coming to grips with the wind and kept in touch with some fine play .Tipperary were awarded a penalty when the Offaly goalie brought down Aoife McLoughney however it was blasted high and wide by Cait Devane. At half time Tipperary were leading Offaly by 8pts to 6pts.With the wind at their backs Offaly went on a scoring spree scoring Six unanswered points ,then Tipperary conceded an unlucky goal that put the match beyond them. Tipperary’s only two scores in the second half were frees from Nicole Walsh, towards the end Tipperary were unlucky not to score two goals and ended up losing 0.10 to 2.16.This was a big learning curve for a young Tipperary team and will be stronger for it.
DAILY STAR INTERMEDIATE LEAGUE (round 1)
Tipperary 0.01 Meath 1.15
Tipperary made the journey to Dunganny Co.Meath with a very depleted team due to sickness and injury. In very poor weather conditions a very young Tipperary team did remarkably well to hod Meath’s senior team to the scoreline. Tipperary’s only point was scored by Andrea Loughnane. However Aine McCarthy and Louise McLoughlin along with the Tooher sisters Shauna and Joyce all had very good games.
