Minor A All-Ireland Championship Final
Tipperary 2-10 Galway 1-13

The minor A All-Ireland final was held last Saturday 23rd April in Shinrone Co. Offaly. Conditions were near perfect for the game and a big crowd had travelled from both counties in anticipation of a great final and fair play to both team’s they didn’t disappoint.

Tipp opened the scoring with a point from a free by Grace O’Brien and three minutes later Galway replied with a point of their own, with neither side dominating play it was score for score even in the tenth minute when Galway got in for a goal two minutes later Sinead Meagher replied for Tipp with a goal of her own but Galway finished the first half the strongest getting the last four points of the game leaving the half time score Tipperary 1-05 Galway 1-08.

Jean Kelly & Grace O’Brien opened the scoring for Tipp in the second half with two good points and there seemed to be more urgency in Tipp’s play and we were unlucky also not to get in for a couple more goals, Galway got the next two scores but Tipp came back scoring 1-02 without reply with Orla O’Dwyer getting in for Tipp’s second goal in the 19th minute giving Tipp a two point lead 2-09/1-10.

Grace O’Brien got our last score of the game in the 29th minute with a good point and it was looking good for Tipp but Galway dug deep and got the last two point’s of the game with the second score coming deep into injury time and the game finished a draw 2-10/1-13 which was probably the fairest result considering both sides had opportunities to win the game.

It was a great second half fight back by Tipp and we live to fight another day the only worrying aspect of the game was the number of frees that Tipp conceded with ten of Galway’s point’s coming from placed ball’s six in the first half and four in the second but the girl’s have a week to recover and reflect on last Saturday’s game, well done on the performance girl’s keep the head’s up and do your best and we can look forward to the replay next weekend with time and venue to be confirmed.

Scores for Tipp: Grace O’Brien 0-06, Sinead Meagher 1-00, Orla O’Dwyer 1-01, Jean Kelly 0-01, Keely Lenihan 0-02
