ALL IRELAND MINOR A CHAMPIONSHIP
TIPPERARY QUALIFY FOR ALL IRELAND SEMIFINAL
TIPPERARY 2.07 WEXFORD 0.08
Tipperary’s defeat of Wexford in the Ragg county camogie grounds means that Tipperary are in the All Ireland Championshipo semifinal.
In fine weather but heavy conditions underfoot both teams served up a great display of camogie last Sunday in the county camogie grounds.Wexford started brightly attacking Tipperary but the Tipperary defence cleared well and the clearance gave Tipperary’s Roisin Howard a goal chance but she lost her footing and Wexford cleared upfield and scored the first point. Play was very even for a while but Tipperary were gradually getting on top and a fine point from Niamh Treacy levelled the scores Tipperary went ahead with a point from Jenny Grace before Wexford pointed. Tipperary were creating lots of chances in front of goal but Wexford’s goalie was having a good match when good interplay from Niamh Treacy sent the ball to Tipperary’s Roisin Howard who scored an excellent goal. Tipperary were playing some fine camogie and Wexford were under pressure and giving frees away which Tipps Jenny Grace converted. In the 20th minute some desperate goal line defending from Wexford blocking numerous goal chances led to Roisin Howard collection a breaking ball and scored a fine hand-passed goal. With Tipperary in control with fine play from Al of Tipperary,s team Tipp led by 2.04 to 3 pts at halftime.
Wexford stared the second half strongly and had Tipperary under severe pressure for long periods but Tipperary’s defence held firm with great displays from Alana Morris. Carol Casey and Eimear Cahill, Wexford scored three unanswered points before a well worked point from Courtney Ryan settled Tipperary who then missed two fine goal chances which would have wrapped up the game due to final passes going astray.A further point by Niamh Treacy in the closing minutes ensured a Tipperary win with a score of 2.07 to Wexford’s 0.08.This was a fine display by Tipperary and when the chips were down Tipperary’s defence was magnificent.
