TIPPERARY ALLIANZ CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL FOOTBALL FINALS 2013
Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Football and Ladies Football county finals were played over four days in various locations around the county in the weeks after the Halloween Break. The finals ran with great success. Congratulations to all schools involved in the finals. A final report has been prepared and sent to the various regional newspapers in Tipperary as well as team photos from across the various levels of Football and Ladies Football. Thanks to all schools who sent in a report and team photo. Keep an eye on local papers in the coming weeks for your school!

Allianz Cumann na mBunscol A.G.M. is scheduled to take place Friday 10th January in Ennis. Tipperary officers will attend the A.G.M. A full outline of the A.G.M. will be forwarded to schools in due course.

Faoi dheireadh thiar thall tháinig an lá mór do na buachaillí faoi 13. Bhí Gaelscoil Bhríde ag imirt Grange i gCraobh an Chontae. Bhí an t-uafás oibre curtha isteach ag gach éinne agus bhíomar go léir ar bís ag súil leis an lá mór. Thugamar aghaidh ar Chaiseal luath maidin an chluiche. Bhí an cluiche ag tosú ar 10:30. Thógamar grianghraf agus rinneamar roinnt cleachtadh. Bhíomar réidh chun troda! Bhí an fhoireann Dean, James, Conor, Dara, Toby, Liam(Capt) James, Daragh, Luke, Oisín, Urban, Eimear, Dylan. Chaith an réiteoir an liathróid isteach. Bhuaigh Liam an liathróid i lár na páirce. Bhí an liathróid ag dul ó cheann ceann na páirce. Cluiche crua cothrom a bhí ann gan aon liathróid á bhuachaint go héasca. Tar éis cúpla nóiméad fuair Grange an chéad chúilín. Fuair Urban an céad scór do Ghaelscoil tar éis Grange a bheith faoi bhrú. Cic amach mór agus chuaigh Grange ar an ionsaí agus bhí Gaelscoil faoi bhrú ansin. Ghlac Grange le cúilín. Tháinig Chloe isteach i gcomhair James sna cúlaithe. Ach tar éis cúilín Grange tháinig Gaelscoil ar ais suas an pháirc agus bhíomar, Gaelscoil suas ag leath am le scór 0-3 go dtí 0-2, le cúilíní ó Daragh Stakelum agus James Armstrong. Ní raibh mórán idir na fóirne agus bhí a fhios again go mbeadh orainn bheith iontach maith chun an corn a ardú. Thug gach imreoir aghaidh ar an bpáirc don dara leath, réidh chun gach rud a thabhairt ar son a scoile. Tháinig liathróid isteach ó Liam Ó Chionnaoith go dtí Dylan MacLochlainn agus thug Dylan liathróid álainn chuig Eimear Nic Craith. Gluaiseacht den scoth! Bhí sí os comhair an chúil ach chuir sí é ar foraíl, faraoir. Tar éis an ionsaí sin, thosaigh Gaelscoil ag imirt níos fearr. Tar éis cúpla nóiméad, buaileadh liathróid isteach sa chearnóg, go hard is go criunn. Tógadh cic dó, ach shabháil an cúlbáire ó Grange é. Tháinig sé chuig Urban ach níor éirigh leis é a chur san eangach. Ansin tháinig se chuig Lúc Ó Fógartaigh agus sháigh sé é san eangach sa chúinne barr ar dheis i stíl sacair. Níos fearr ná Robin Van Persie! Ansin chuaigh Gaelscoil ar an ionsaí arís agus chuir Luke liathróid gleoite isteach agus smeach Dylan MacLochlainn é thar an cúlbáire. Bhí cúlaithe Gaelscoil ar fheabhas. Sheas said an fód agus bhris said síos ionsaithe Grange arís is arís eile. Chuaigh Gaelscoil ar stríoc scórála ansin. Cuireadh amn liathróid ó imreoir go himreoir fad na páirce. Aimsíodh daoine le pasanna agus ciceanna cruinne. Fuair Oisín trí chúilín agus fuair James Armstrong cúl freisin. Chuaigh Gaelscoil ar ionsaí eile. Bhí an liathróid buailte isteach sa chearnóg agus léim Dylan McLochlainn suas agus rug sé air. Thug sé pas chuig Aidan Stakelum. Bhí sé sáite san eangach ag Aidan. Tar éis sin, chreid nó ná creid bhí cúl eile ag Gaelscoil Bhríde ó Lúc Ó Fogairtaigh. Cuireadh na hionadaithe go léir isteach. Shéid an réiteoir an fheadóg deireanach. D’imigh na himreoirí Gaelscoile fiáin. Bronnadh an sciath ar an gcaptaen Liam Ó Cionnaoith. Tógadh an t-uafás pictiúrí dínn leis an gcorn. Ba mhaith linn tréaslú le foireann Scoil na Gráinsí as an iarracht oll mhór a chuir said isteach. Throid said go dtí an deireadh agus níór éirigh said as go dtí an fheadóg deiridh. Beidh lá eile acu gan dabht ar bith! CLERIHAN GIRLS WIN FORST EVER U11 LADIES FOOTBALL COUNTY TITLE
On Tuesday 12th November 2013 the girls from St. Michael’s N.S, Clerihan, created history when they won the school’s very first County Under 11 Ladies Football Championship. It was a dry, bright day in South Tipperary, as the girls set out on the short journey to Cashel. The County Final was scheduled to take place in Leahy Park, Cashel, at 2.30pm. Clerihan versus Moycarkey was the pairing in the Final. The young girls from Clerihan had worked exceptionally hard to get to the Final, and they were very excited to be participating in such a big match. The girls had put in a huge effort in training, in preparation for the big day. They had trained every lunch time since the start of September, in the school field, and were ready for the challenge of taking on Moycarkey. These girls had shown great dedication to set themselves up for a shot at County Championship honours. The road to the County Final began in early October when the first round blitz was held in the Clerihan GAA pitch. St. Olivers from Clonmel and Gaelscoil Clonmel were the visitors on the day. Clerihan N.S. recorded big wins against both opponents, to advance to the County Semi Final. In that they faced the formidable challenge of Ballylooby, the team that beat Clerihan in last year’s Under 11 Ladies Football semifinal. Ballylooby were to provide a major examination of Clerihan’s credentials. The County Semi Final took place in Donesk, Cahir, on Thursday 17th October. Clerihan and Ballylooby produced a master-piece of a match, on a windy day in Donesk. Conditions weren’t ideal but both teams played with heart, skill and courage. Ballylooby led by one point at half time and looked like they would win the match, when leading up to near the end. However Clerihan scored a late goal to clinch victory. The final score was Clerihan 6-2 Ballylooby 3-10. Clerihan had won an epic battle by a solitary point! There was great excitement amongst the Clerihan team and supporters at the final whistle, as they had reached the County Final. Preparatons for the Final began immediately after the Semi Final victory. The intensity in training was stepped up, as the girls began to prepare for County Final day. After the Mid Term Break training took place every lunch time and we had sessions after school as well. Confidence in the camp was high and the girls were very focused on what they had to do. They were relaxed in the days leading up to the 12th of November. They knew that they had the hard work done and that if they played to full potential they would have a great chance of winning the County Final. Even though they were very young they showed lots of maturity in dealing with the expectations they had, of winning the big prize. Motivation was very much in evidence amongst them, as the big day approached. They left the school at 1.45 pm and arrived in Leahy Park, Cashel, at 2pm on Tuesday 12th November. After a thorough warm-up they went back into the dressing room, where they received their prized school jerseys. The team was named at this stage. Usually they would be told the team before leaving the school but on this day we decided not to name the team until after the warm up, so as to ensure that the warm-up was done with everyone fully alert and still in with a chance of starting the match. We emphasised that anyone who wasn’t starting would be coming on at half time, as per the rules of Under 11 competition. Following some final instructions from the coaches the girls walked confidently onto the Leahy Park pitch, ready for action. Clerihan started positively with an early goal and a point. Moycarkey hit back with a goal of their own and were beginning to play with confidence. However Clerihan scored a few more goals to take control of the game. Clerihan now were the team playing with confidence and authority. They began to dominate in all areas of the pitch and were in control of proceedings by the mid-way point of the first half. More goals followed as Clerihan began some fantastic football. Moycarkey, to their credit, worked very hard to stem the tide and scored a couple of nice points. However Clerihan hit top gear in the final minutes of the first half, adding some further goals and pulling away. In the second half Moycarkey played some good football and made Clerihan work very hard. However Clerihan added a number of well-worked goals and points. At the final whistle Clerihan N.S. were the County Champions! Even though Clerihan N.S had won by a very large margin Moycarkey never gave up, and played to the final whistle. They deserve great credit for that. The Clerihan girls were overjoyed at the final whistle. It began to sink in that they had won the school’s very first Under 11 County Championship in Ladies Football! It was a proud moment for them, and for the school. Tipperary Allianz Cumann na mBunscol Secretary Aodan Wrenn, teacher in the school and one of the team coaches, proudly presented the trophy to the Clerihan girls. In a change from normal procedure the trophy was presented to the whole team and not the captain. It was decided by the coaches and by the girls themselves, that it was a team effort that won the County Final therefore the entire team should lift the trophy together at the presentation. After jubilant parents took many photos of the victorious team, with the cherished trophy, the girls returned to the dressing room with great contentment. We all went to McDonalds in Cashel after that to continue the celebrations. The girls were treated to chicken nuggets / cheese burger meals, and McFlurrys as well! They really enjoyed that! There are many people to thank for helping the young Clerihan girls realise their dream. Firstly I’d like to thank the Cashel King Cormac’s GAA Club for allowing us use their excellent pitch in Leahy Park. Especial thanks to Pauric Murray, who was grounds man on the day. I’d like to thank John Bob Ryan, for refereeing the match. I want to sincerely thank Fr. O’Bric, the chairperson of our Board of Management, for generously paying for the girl’s food in McDonalds. It was a lovely gesture and was very much appreciated. I want to thank our Principal, Reidin Condon, for all the support she gave us. She couldn’t have been more supportive of our efforts and we are very grateful for this. I’m sure she was delighted to be present for the first County Final the school has won under her Principalship. I wish to thank our Secretary Katriona Flannery for helping us out on match days by going into the dressing room with the girls as they put on their gear. She also provided great support to the girls on the sideline. It must have been a proud moment for her as her daughter Kayleigh was the team captain. An enormous amount of thanks are due to the teachers who helped us out at lunch times with training sessions. Jane Barrett, Anne Marie O’Riordan, Ann-Marie Murphy and Aine Madden were very generous with their time in assisting with the sessions, and contributing to the preparations of the team. All the staff were very supportive of us and I’ like to thank each of them. Paudie Fahey, the team coach, devoted a huge amount of time to this team and deserves massive thanks for this. He was out with them every lunch time since the start of September instructing, guiding, praising and encouraging the girls. His devotion to the effort was inspiring and the girls are really grateful to him, for doing this. To Moycarkey I say well done on reaching the County Final and hard luck on the day. There will be brighter days ahead for them and I wish them nothing but success in the future. I want to finish by remembering our late Principal John Walsh. He would have been so proud of the girls. He had great enthusiasm for ladies football and really believed in the potential of this team. When we began working with them last year John was with us and contributed a lot to their development. He would have been overjoyed with the County Final victory. It was an emotional moment for me presenting the trophy to the Clerihan girls as I thought of him when making my presentation speech. He was by my side on the 4 previous occasions I presented a County Final trophy to a victorious Clerihan N.S team. I can still see the smile he had on his face on those previous 4 occasions, and I believe he was smiling down on us on the 12th of November as well. I believe he was with us all the way to the final whistle, kicking every ball with us! It was our first County Final victory since his sad passing but he played his part with this team as well and it’s important to acknowledge this. RULE CLARIFICATIONS
After several queries on certain rules when playing in Cumann na mBunscol matches, a reminder was sent to schools in relation to play of the ball and square ball rules. For both football and ladies football at U-13 and U-11 only two plays of the ball are permitted, i.e. one hop and one solo OR two solos. In addition to this, schools are reminded that the square ball rule applies in Cumann na mBunscol matches. Finally, a reminder that girls can play on the boys football teams at U-11 and U-13 level but must follow boy’s rules.
MOUTHGUARDS
Schools are reminded of the importance of mouthguards for all children participating in Cumann na mBunscol matches. All boys training for and playing Gaelic football must wear mouthguards at all times. Girls playing Ladies Football and training for Ladies Football will be obliged to wear mouthguards from the 1st of January 2014. Girls playing football on boy’s teams will have to wear mouthguards from now. For P.E. lessons undertaken by the teacher or un-organised football sessions, such as at break times, it is at the discretion of the school as to whether mouthguards are to be used.

Schools are reminded and encouraged to send news and updates of their progress in the football championships for the coming season. Reports should include, in as much as possible, school names, referee, venue, final score and a balanced account of the match. A Reporter of the Week will be chosen and their work included in the weekly report. Please ensure all reports are a single paragraph in Verdana 10 type. All submissions should be proof-read by the teacher before submission.
