BLITZ GLORY FOR LISSENHALL NS U11 BOYS
Lissenhall under 11 boys played with great courage and skill in their blitz in Dolla today, winning all three of their games to qualify for the county semi-finals. Results: Lissenhall 6-4 Birdhill 0-4; Lissenhall 6-4 Ardcroney 0-3; Lissenhall 2-0 Ballina 0-3. The four teams had to brave dreadful weather conditions, but the pitch in Dolla was in great order. Lissenhall came through two tough battles against Birdhill and Ardcroney initially. David Cunningham and John Ryan were the scorers in chief; both were clinical in the full forward line. Eoin Ryan drove the team forward from midfield, with Cathal Tracey and Robbie Leamy playing very important roles. Sean Ryan-Prendeville broke up numerous attacks with his excellent reading of the play, while Sean McGrath was very solid beside him in defence. It all came down to the final game to see which team would qualify from the group, and Lissenhall edged out Ballina in a classic. David Cunningham got the first goal, before man of the match Luke O’Brien scored a second. Ballina could find no way past the outstanding Conor Murphy who kept a clean sheet in each of the three games, while great defending from Michael Ryan-Prendeville and Luke O’ Brien dropping deep from midfield meant Lissenhall held out for a deserved victory.

CASHEL BOYS OVERCOME ST. MARY’S CLONMEL IN THRILLER
St John the Baptist BNS, Cashel 3-8 St Mary’s Primary School, Clonmel Leahy Park, Cashel.
Referee: Fergal Horgan.
St John the Baptist BNS (Cashel) overcame St Mary’s Primary School (Clonmel) by a puck of the ball in a tense and exciting U13 Roinn A championship encounter in Leahy Park recently.
Conditions were difficult for both sides as gusts of wind and driving rain made fluid and fast hurling challenging. However, it was the home side that started the brighter, taking advantage of the strong breeze to charge into a 3-7 to 2-2 half time lead. Cashel captain Jack McGrath, playing at centre forward, led from the front as he bagged an impressive 2-3 before the interval. St Mary’s struck goals at either side of half time to bring the Clonmel team right back into contention. They pressurised the Cashel back line for large parts of the second half and will count themselves unlucky not to get something out of the match. The Cashel boys scoring response to the St Mary’s second half onslaught was a solitary Conor O’Dwyer point who had a very impressive outing i lár na páirce. Ronan Connolly and Evan Moloney were the other scorers for the team in yellow and blue while St Mary’s full and centre forward did most of the damage with some excellently struck scores. St Mary’s had already drawn with Carrick CBS and will need the Cashel boys to do them a favour against Carrick if they are to progress to the next round of the championship. All in all, this was an excellent game played by two committed and spirited teams and it was a pity that there had to be a loser in such an engaging contest.

GRANGEMOCKLER & ANNACARTY SERVE UP A CRACKER
Grangemockler N.S travelled to Cashel and played Annacarty. Paudie Bradshaw started the scoring for Annacarty from a free. Grangemockler came back with a goal from Luke Maguire. Then Anacarty scored a goal from Daniel Kelly and at the end of the first half Annacarty led by 3 points. With some position changes on the team, Grangemockler played well in the second half. Conor Murphy went into the goal and Darragh Lambe played corner forward. Grangemockler team captain Cian Meaney was very solid in the backs, led his team well by example. Ben Comerford battled hard to gain possession and make scores but this wasn’t easy against a very determined Annacarty side. Annacarty continued to put over frees but Grangemockler hung on and won 4-3 to 1-10. Well done to both teams for a great match.
