TIPPERARY ALLIANZ CUMANN NA MBUNSCOL REPORT MARCH 30th BY JOHN MANLEY

MAROONS MAKE THE PERFECT START BY LIAM O’SULLIVAN
Ardfinnan N.S. U13 hurlers got off to a winning start in their first game of the Championship. Grangemockler travelled to Ardfinnan in a reverse of the same fixture last year, which Ardfinnan had lost heavily. It wasn’t looking good for the maroons after the first 10 minutes. They were down a goal and a point very promptly and when a second goal was conceded it was time to step up. Captain Eoin Wyse worked tirelessly around the middle as did Philip Betts and Cian O Mahoney in the full back line. But it was Ben Doyle who suddenly burst into action making a brilliant run up the pitch before being fouled. This seemed to lift all on the team. Ben himself scored 4 magnificent points from play in the remainder of the first half, Eoin Wyse added a goal and Morgan Lambert plus kevi Burke another to leave the sides level at half time, 2-3 to 1-6. Goalkeeper Aaron Poliunas was getting better and better as the game moved on, hitting clever, long puck outs, landing ball into the hands of Ben , Eoin and Morgan. With the wind behind them Ardfinnan expected an easier second half. They did n’t get it! Among the players from Grangemockler who stood out were Conor Murphy, Ben Comerford. and Darragh Lambe. They led by example and in the early part of the half played the better hurling. They clearly had a lot more training done than Ardfinnan , but the maroons had played a great campaign at Club last Summer, losing the South Final by a single point, so they were n”t going to lie down. Eoin Wyse was moved to full forward due to injury, Cian O Mahoney moved to the centre , soon scoring a goal and a point. Jack O Neill poached an important goal when he went in. At the other end Grangemockler scored 2 great points and but for Aaron Poliunas would have added goals. It was Eoin Wyse , captain showing constant leadership who broke the hearts of the visitors with a 3- goal flurry that gave brave and skilful Grangemockler goalie Paidi O Shea no chance. Others for Ardfinnan who played and did well were Liam Burke, Sean Cunningham and Tadhg Carroll. It was a great first round win for the maroons , greatly enjoyed by the supporters who watched, including Eoin Wyse’s Uncle Eric , a former player with the school and his family , back on holidays from Brisbane, Australia.
Final score Ardfinnan N.S. 6-7 Grangemockler 2-5.

COUNTY HURLING FINALS
The County Finals, in Semple Stadium, will take place on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th June. No other dates were available because of Munster Championship matches in Semple Stadium on the previous weekends. The Stadium Committee have told us that there will be no future problems with those dates. Please avoid those dates for school tours if you haven’t already booked your tours. If you have a school tour on either date, and you reach the County Final, we can work around it and put your County Final on the other day, to avoid a clash.
