Carrick Davins secure U 12 Football honours
Our U 12 Football action came to a conclusion last Saturday with the D final between Carrick Davins and Ballina. Like the previous Saturday the Knockavilla Donaskeigh club hosted the game in Pairc Cioram which commenced @ 11.35am. The contest itself was to prove to be a very low scoring affair with the south champions getting three scores as against one to the north men. The second half return was even lower with just one addition apiece.

Carrick Davins opened the scoring with a point from Conor Corcoran after two minutes and it was obvious that they were a force to be reckoned with. On the fifth minute Cian O’Donoghue had the sides level with Ballina point. Two minutes later Conor O’Shea had the opening goal for the Davins and from the resulting kick out it was goal number two for the Davins attack courtesy of Tadgh Quinlan. Their defence only leaked one point while their attack notched up 2-01 during the first half for a score reading Carrick Davins 2-01 Ballina 0-01.

In the second period both teams only added single scores to their tally as the net from both ends were rattled to put the final score at Carrick Davins 3-01 Ballina 1-01.

On the eleventh minute the south side clocked up their third goal and a second for Conor Quinlan. Things were very ominous for their northern opponents. However Ballina to their credit never gave up and had the Davins net shaking on the thirteenth minute from the boot of Kevin McMahon, but unfortunately for them the leakages from the opening period were too much to patch and had to succumb to the south men who clinched the title.

Chairman Tom Dawson acknowledged the performance of both teams and thanked the referee Andy Murray, his officials and the host club and proceeded to the presentation of the trophy to the victorious Carrick Davins team.

The John West Féile na Gael
As previously publicised Tipperary along with Waterford are jointly hosting the National Féile on the weekend of June 17th, 18th & 19th which is being sponsored by fish processing and distribution company John West.

This year’s national organising committee is under the chairmanship of Donal Shanahan and the secretary is Patrica Walsh from Waterford. All the participating clubs have to commended for the preparations put in so far and are encouraged to keep up the good work. It’s imperative that everything humanly possible is done to ensure that come the June weekend that our involvement in staging this huge festival of hurling will be the best ever.

The countdown is in full swing now as commencement date of June 16th is approaching and hopefully every last effort is being put in by all host clubs to ensure that everything goes according to plan. It’s at the discretion of each hosting club as to how they decide a format in welcoming the visiting club, but it would be nice that a massive effort would be put in to ensure that when the Féile is concluded and all the visitors depart that they will do with very fond memories of how well they were received in both Tipperary and Waterford.
