The Annual General Meeting of Coiste na Nog took place in the Horse & Jockey on Tuesday December 6th. Chairman Tom Dawson opened proceedings in welcoming everyone and sought a proposer and seconded for the Standing Orders.
Assistant secretary Ann McGrath went briefly through her report as it was circulated to all prior to the meeting. She accounted for all the major events that had taken place during our busy year. The top item being our co hosting the All Ireland Féile Iomanniocht tournament with Waterford. Even though it added a very big work load on both the officer board and hosting clubs it was a wonderful success.
Treasurer Catherine Gleeson in her report went through her report outlining all our income and expenditure for the year. As a good minister for finance she had a positive report and we concluded with a healthy balance.
In his Chairman’s address Tom Dawson gave a very wide ranging review of the past year. He acknowledged our sponsors Tipperary Co Op sponsored our championships and added that this was a new venture. He was delighted that Arrabawn were back with us as sponsors of the U16 All Ireland Inter County Hurling tournaments. He added as they were there at the commencement of the tournament nearly thirty years its brilliant to have them on board again.
Senior Board County Development Officer P.J. Maher addressed the meeting and strongly advised that all clubs should update themselves re insurance. Injury incidents have to be reported immediately as to ensure the Insurance Company know about it. He went briefly to holding events in public areas, for example holding collections on roads etc.
He emphasised on the importance that has to be given to insurance and that at a worse scenario a public liability could occur which no club could entertain. He referred to the new Five Year Plan and sought an input from all clubs. The following are some of the areas of interest finance, fixtures, holiday period, county structure, divisional structures, parish rule etc,. Ideas can be submitted online. A committee will look into all the responses and then present a plan for the future. It’s imperative that all clubs take up this opportunity to participate making submissions and air their voice on how we go in the future.
Motions were next on the program and the following clubs had submitted motions Upperchurch Drombane, St. Marys, Lorrha Dorrha, South Tipp Coiste na Nog and County Coiste na Nog.
Long discussions ensued on almost all the motions with every club being afforded their input. Some were voted on and others taken as recommendations as they may have been in conflict with official guide.
The following is a brief outline of the motions submitted.
Motion 1 To align all weekly fixtures in all divisions across the county was taken as a recommendation.
2. The grading for all Amalgamations to be played in the “A” grade failed.
3. To change the U16 games to league format was not heard as the club who submitted it were not present.
4. Change the current regulations re substitutions at U12 Level was taken as a recommendation.
5. B competition in U14 and U16 to run as a 13/15 a side, to be declared prior to the fixture failed.
6. C competition in U14 and U16 to run as 11/13 a side, to be declared prior to fixture was passed.
7. Meetings of County Coiste na Nog and Competitions Control Committee may occur via conference call where deemed appropriate by Chairman/Secretary was passed.
In his final meeting as PRO, Neil Ryan thanked everyone for the cooperation he received from the clubs. He thanked all his fellow officers and divisions. The year has been a brilliant one as we co hosted the All Ireland Féile Iomanniocht getting great support from all the clubs. The big highlight was in September when we dethroned the cats with some ease and the All Ireland title accompanied by the Minor title.
Our Gradings committee are meeting on Tuesday December 13th to plan for 2017. All in Tipperary Coiste na Nog wish everyone every good wish for the festive season and a successful 2017.
