The South Tipperary Under 14 Peil Final was held on Saturday in Monroe between Moyle Rovers and Cahir.
The end scoreline of 4-8 Moyle Rovers to 1-2 for Cahir did not reflect the skills seen on the field of play. For 40 minutes (20 minutes a side) we watched very dedicated and talented players. Moyle Rovers opened the scoreline with a point just after the 1st minute. Cahir following suit after 4 mins.
Moyle Rovers defense line did, however, give many opportunities to Cahir by conceding a number of frees. One of which ended in a fantastic goal for Cahir. But throughout the game, Moyle Rovers were evident, never letting out of sight their mark and with a strong forward and back line proved the stronger team on the day. Cahir never giving in, kept up pace in the front line, But in the second half their back line having to work very hard and for most of the second half was in this area.
Its great to watch a game, and even better when faith is restored in our young lads when you witness respect for their fellow opponents. Cahir player No 11, made a tackle on a Moyle Rovers player, which was obviously unintended, but did land the Moyle Rovers player on the ground. Straight away the Cahir No.11, bent down, hand on shoulder checking that his opponent was ok, Brian Tyrell (Referee) was quickly on the scene checking the Moyle Rovers player too. Only seconds to check that all was ok. With the Moyle Rovers player back up on his feet, the Cahir No.11 went over, put his hand out and with the same respect the Moyle Rovers player accepted the hand shake. So to me, they were many men of the match yesterday and one Gent of the Match.
Pat O Connor, Field manager of Moyle Rovers came up trumps as always, field lined and flagged. Have to say that Pat is a god send to Bord na nOg, always willing to help out for which we are really appreciative. Moyle Rovers Juvenile Board also pulled out all the stops by providing umpires and having the score board working. Brian Tyrell Officiated this final with a stern yet fair hand leading to a smoothly run final.
All in all this was a great game and this is due to Moyle Rovers, Pat O Connor, Brian Tyrell, The Team, Mentors & Supporters from both Cahir and Moyle Rovers. Well done to all involved and good luck to Moyle Rovers in the County Semi Finals on Saturday 26th April.
