The Late Jack Kennedy
The GAA in North Tipperary and beyond was saddened to learn of the passing of Jack Kennedy, Moneygall and Nenagh Eire Og. He died peacefully at his home in Nenagh on last Saturday. His remains were brought to Saint Mary’s of the Rosary Church Nenagh on Tuesday for requiem mass on 12 noon with burial in Lisboney Cemetery.
Jack held the post of North Board Treasurer from 1972 to 1975 and he served as a north Board representative with his club Moneygall and his adopted club Nenagh Eire Og.
He was very much committed to the GAA. He began his hurling and football career with his beloved Moneygall and played at wing forward in the clubs success in 1949 when they won the North and county intermediate titles. He was a very good footballer as well and after his career ended he served the club as an administrator. He was very much involved in building a new centre in the 1970s. Moneygall was the first club to provide a covered stand in the north division.
He worked with a whole sale company in Birr, County Offaly and later opened painting and decorating shop called Albany in Nenagh. In the 1960’s he set up home in Nenagh with his wife Anne now deceased. They had five in family three boys, Michael, Philip and Jon and two daughters Mary and Anne. As a result he became involved with Nenagh Eire Og as his three sons played hurling at all levels with the club. They each played with Tipperary as well. His daughter Mary married Liam Maher who hurled with Boherlahan and Tipperary while his daughter Anne Malone is the current secretary of the Nenagh Juvenile club.
Jack was a life long president with Nenagh Eire Og club up to the time of his passing and there was a minutes silence observed prior to the commencement of the Waterford Crystal game last Sunday between Tipperary and Limerick Institute of Technology which was played in MacDonagh Park.

Congratulations to Ballina who won the North Tipp club of the year award for 2013. . The new North Tipperary intermediate champions saw off strong opposition from Nenagh Eire Og. This is the second time that Ballina has captured the coveted Cuchulainn Statue having won it last in 2000. Their latest success comes on the back of their historic double when winning both North and County Intermediate Hurling for the first time. They defeated Shannon Rovers in the North final before overcoming Moyne Templetuohy in the county decider at Semple Stadium.
It’s been a magnificent year for Ballina and in addition to collecting the Intermediate double they also won the North and County Minor B hurling double. The club continues to grow providing the foundation and facilities in promoting its players and teams and in recent times the club purchased new ground.
The Presentation of club of the year will be held in The Lakeside Hotel, Ballina on Friday 17th January at 8pm. In addition the identity of the overall hurler and footballer of the year will be made known and they will receive their awards while the other Players of the Year from the respective grades will also receive their accolades. Four former referees will also be recipients of awards with Championship and League medals to be presented to the winning clubs.
Healthy Club Project
Nenagh Eire Og is organising a talk on depression and healthy living on the 24th January in the Abbey Court Hotel commencing at 7.30pm. The as part of the Nenagh Eire Og Healthy Club Project. Three guest speakers will give a talk. Cork man, Conor Cusack (brother of former Cork goalkeeper, Donal Og Cusack) will speak on his own experience when suffering from depression and those who live with people suffering from depression. Fr Tony Butler S.M.A Missionary will reveal how he found a way through his depression and how he now helps others in dealing with the illness. Seamus Hennessey will challenge us to participate in building a strong local community where caring, health and hope are priorities.
Club PROs are advised to take note and ask their members to support the venture. The invitation is open to all to come.
