North Tipperary Under-21 Football Championship
The North Tipp Under-21 B Football championship will form the opening games of the 2014 GAA calendar in North Tipperary GAA circles. Eight teams divided into two groups of four will fight for the silverware won by Ballinahinch Gaels (or Newport Gaels as they will be known this year). So next Sunday the defending champions will host Burgess in the opening game of Group 1. Portroe will host Borrisokane the same day. Both games have a 12.00 noon throw in.
Group 2 is just as competitive. Shannon Rovers Gaels face Lorrha in Ballingarry. The second game will see Inane Rovers v Ballina and 12.00 noon is the throw in time for both games. Last year’s competition had six teams involved. Ballina headed Group 1 ahead of Moneygall/Clonakenny on score difference. Portroe topped Group 2 ahead of Ballinahinch Gaels. In the semi final, Ballinahinch Gaels defeated Ballina 1-7 to 0-4 and Moneygall/Clonakenny secured a 3-6 to 1-7 win over Portroe. In the final, played on 31st March Ballinahinch Gaels defeated Moneygall/Clonakenny by 1-8 to 1-3 at Templederry. Lorrha and Shannon Rovers Gaels were the other teams involved.
Championship Draw Night
The draw for the Hibernian Inn North Tipperary Senior Hurling championship will be held on Thursday February 20th. The draw for the Frank McGrath Cup is the feature of other championship draws including the Denis Meats North Tipperary Intermediate championship, the Watch Centre Junior Hurling, the Walsh’s of Nenagh U-21 hurling, the Ger Gavin Minor Hurling plus the Junior and Minor football championships.
