Championship Draws

The championship draws for the North Tipp hurling and Football championships will be made at a specially organised North Board meeting next Thursday 20th February at the Hibernian Inn, Nenagh. The meeting will commence at 7.30pm.

One of the items set on the agenda is where the County Chairman, Sean Nugent has asked the North Division to carry out a Divisional Review and this matter will be addressed at the meeting.

North Tipperary Under-21 B Football

Borrisokane defeated Portroe 2-7 to 1-3 in the sole north Under-21 B Football

GROUP 1 championship game which was played at Gardiner Park last Sunday. The 2013 North Under-21 A Football champions won the only game of three Under-21 B football championship games scheduled for last Sunday.

The other two pairings Burgess v Newport Gaels and Shannon Rovers Gaels v Lorrha failed to materialise as venues were unplayable and the ties will be played next Saturday 22nd February.

The venues, times and officials for the games are as follows.

GROUP 1

Sat, 22 Feb, Venue: Newport, Burgess V Newport Gaels 14:00, Ref: Christy Mc Loughlin

GROUP 2

Sat, 22 Feb, Venue: Ballingarry (North), Shannon Rovers Gaels V Lorrha-Dorrha 14:00, Ref: Ger Fitzpatrick.

With Inane Rovers withdrawn from the competition, it means that Ballina will have a bye to the next round.

 

Looking back

1994:

On March 19th Erins Hope defeated Newport in the opening game of the North U-21 A Football championship played at Kilcolman. They won by 2-7 to 0-6. The following day Borris-Ileigh defeated Shannon Rovers by 1-7 to 0-7 in the U-21 B grade at Kilcolman.

2004:

On Saturday 21st February Ballina defeated Kildangan 0-15 to 1-7 and Burgess overcome Newport 0-10 to 0-6 in the opening games of the North U-21 A Football championship. In the Under -21 B championship, Borrisokane drew with Ballinahinch 2-5 to 0-11 on Saturday 21st February and the following day Kilruane MacDonaghs had a 0-8 to 0-5 win over Silvermines.
