Mid Tipperary GAA Scene – June 20th 2016

Centenary Agri Mid Senior Hurling Championship:
This weekend will see the remaining Mid Senior Quarter Finals be played and there are some very attractive games to whet the appetite of the supporters ahead of the upcoming Munster Senior Hurling Final. First up on Saturday evening, Holycross Ballycahill face Clonakenny in the Ragg at 7.30pm. Then on Sunday there is a mouth watering double bill with Upperchurch Drombane meeting Loughmore Castleiney at 2pm and the tie of the round sees Drom Inch face defending Mid champions Thurles Sarsfields at 3.30pm in Templetuohy. Entry to this double header is €10 and represents great value and a chance for all to see some of Tipperary’s finest players.

Cahill Cup:
The Preliminary round tie between Thurles Sarsfields and Loughmore Castleiney took place over the weekend with Loughmore Castleiney emerging victors by 0-11 to 0-10 and now progress to meet Clonakenny in the quarter final with a place in the semi finals alongside Moycarkey Borris, Holycross Ballycahill and Upperchurch Drombane.

Thurles Wholesale Cash and Carry Mid Junior A & B Hurling Championship:
Last weekend seen the start of the Mid Junior B hurling championship with Upperchurch Drombane registering a victory over Clonakenny. The Junior A hurling Championship gets underway this Friday evening with Moyne Templetuohy facing Drom Inch in Templetuohy at 8pm while JK Brackens face Loughmore Castleiney in Templemore. In the B Championship, Thurles Sarsfields face Killea in the Outside Field at 8pm while on Saturday Moycarkey Borris host JK Brackens

Tipperary Senior Hurlers:
Well done to Michael Ryan and his Senior hurling team who defeated Limerick in the Munster Semi final on Sunday in Semple Stadium to seal a place in the Munster final against Waterford on 10th July.

County Final Long Puck:

Following 3 very successful years on the Galtee Mountains the County final of the Long Puck revert to a North Tipperary venue. This year the finals will take place at Fairy Mount Farm, on the site of Bike Park Ireland in Ballingarry, Knockshegowna on Saturday June 25th 2016. Competitors are asked to assemble at the venue at 10.30 sharp for transportation to the start point. The U16 finalists are already decided at divisional level.
Senior participants are invited to register for participation by filling out a registration form which is available from club or divisional secretaries. Applications should be with us on or before Wednesday 22nd June.
Participation is open to any player registered with a club in Tipperary. A county Final Winners medal will be presented to winners of both the U16 and Senior competitions. The Senior winners will progress to represent Tipperary in the All Ireland Poc Fada on the Cooley Mountains. Intending participants are asked to bring one person with them to assist with marking and scoring.
A two and a half kilometer trail has been marked out and will be a good test for all.
Refreshments will be provided for participants and markers following the event on the site.
