The standout achievement last weekend was a first ever county final victory for Thurles Gaels, in their first ever county final appearance, after they claimed the county U14C football crown following their extra time victory over St. Patricks in Boherlahan on Saturday. What an historic occasion it is for the club and many congratulations to the players, mentors and club officers on their great success after a super final. Thurles was soon ringing to the sound of car horns as the victorious team and supporters made their way home in jubilant fashion.
Elsewhere, commiserations to Moycarkey-Borris and Holycross-Ballycahill who both lost their respective U14A and B football finals in the same venue despite putting in good performances.
The Féile na nGael national and regional finals take place this weekend with Moyne-Templetuohy representing the county in the national finals in Ulster, while Moycarkey-Borris regroup to represent the county at the regional finals in Thurles. A lot of focus will be centred on the new revised format this year with the break-up of the traditional format as we knew it. While this has been well documented by now, hopefully it will prove to be a very worthwhile and productive venture. In the meantime we extend best wishes to our clubs and hope they have a successful weekend and in particular to Moyne-Templetuohy who have embraced the chance to represent the county at the national finals. May it be a most enjoyable and rewarding weekend for them up North and that the players will have long and happy memories of the festival weekend.
Back to county matters, best wishes to Moycarkey-Borris in their U16A football county semi-final on Saturday evening in Templederry against Newport Gaels.
