As the football championships have almost come to a close for this year we congratulate the winners of the respective finals over the weekend, Moycarkey-Borris in U14A, Holycross-Ballycahill in U14B and Thurles Gaels in U14C. Best wishes to those clubs in the county semi finals scheduled for May 31st.
In the U16A championship final played on Monday night, Durlas Óg and Moycarkey-Borris served up a thriller in Templemore and the sides couldn’t be separated at full time. Though extra time was scheduled to be played, rapidly fading light ensured the tie would go to a replay instead, a fair result all round. While over in Templetuohy, Gortnahoe-Glengoole won the U16B equivalent accounting for Clonakenny in that final. Congratulations to the Gortnahoe lads who now await county semi-final action later in June.
It’s hats off time to Durlas Óg on their terrific victory in the U12 Group 1 county football final on Saturday last defeating South champions Clonmel Commercials in Templetuohy. This is a wonderful result and rolls back twenty one years for the club in this competition since they won it last. Car horns announced their arrival back into the Cathedral town on this jubilant occasion for the club.
This Saturday the divisional attention turns to Borrisoleigh and the prestigious Peadar Cummins tournament. The Mid squad of twenty four has been finalised and we wish the panel and mentors; P.J. Bowden (Durlas Óg), John Butler (Upperchurch-Drombane) and Ferghal McDonnell (J.K. Brackens) every best wish on the day. We would love to see a sizeable presence of Mid supporters in Borrisoleigh for the semi-final which starts at 11am against the North and then enjoy the now legendary hospitality presented by the Borrisoleigh GAA club in honour of one of it’s favourite sons in advance of both main final and shield final.
