Munster MFC: Tipperary survive Clare scare
ELECTRIC IRELAND MUNSTER MFC SEMI-FINAL: TIPPERARY 0-16 CLARE 2-9
Brendan Martin’s injury-time point sealed a dramatic come-from-behind victory for Tipperary in this evening’s Electric Ireland Munster MFC semi-final. The Premier County advanced to a fourth final in five years by nabbing the last three points of the game to deny Clare a first provincial decider since 1994.
It was tough luck on Clare, who had goals in either half from Cormac Murray and inspirational captain Keelan Sexton, but Tipp showed true grit to rally from two points down. Scores in the 59th, 60th and 61st minutes won it for Tipp, with man of the match Martin having the final say. The sides were level at half-time, 0-6 to 1-3, with Tipp coming from three points down to ensure parity at the break.

Munster Minor Football Championship – Useful Information
Kerry are seeking their a 4th consecutive appearance in the Munster Minor Football final and a third championship title in a row. Kerry are the last team to win 3 in a row having done so as part of their 2001 to 2004 four in a row. Cork are the only other county to win 3 in a row having done so most recently between 1991 and 1993. Tipperary had an opportunity for 3 in a row in 2013 when they were defeated in the Munster final by Kerry.
Tipperary and Clare will also meet in this year’s Munster Minor Hurling Championship semi-final which like the football semi-final will be played at Semple Stadium.
Munster teams have secured just 3 All Ireland titles since the turn of the Millenium – Kerry (2014), Tipperary (2011) and Cork (2000).
Goals win games or do they? Limerick and Waterford scored 4 goals each in this year’s Munster Minor Football championship but both are now eliminated while Clare (2), Cork (2), Tipperary (2) and Kerry (0) remain in the competition.
With many of the same players participating as will feature in Wednesday’s minor semi-final, Tipperary defeated Clare by 0-12 to 0-10 in last October’s Daryl Darcy Cup Final, the Munster under 17 football competition.
