TIPPERARY 1.15 CLARE 2.07
Tipperary travelled to Meelick Co.Clare for the 2nd round of the championship in good spirits after their win in Wexford in their previous game.In blustery conditions and a heavy field both teams found scores hard to come by.Tipperary’s Gace O’Brien opened the scoring with a free then followed up with another free before Clare responded with a point.Tipperary were in control for long periods but the Clare defence held firm,Rosin Howard and Niamh Treacy put Tipperary further in front with well taken points before Clare replied with two pointed frees . Grace O’Brien was very accurate with her frees and converted two more .This first period was a case of Tipperary attacking and Clare defending but finding goals was difficult with the Clare defence standing firm under pressure from the Tipperary forwards but was Keely Lenihan causing problems for Clare’s defence. Tipperary led 0.07 to 0.03 at the break.Tipperary started the second half playing against the wind playing a more controlled game and got their reward with great approach play resulting in Niamh Treacy hitting a scorcher from 20 metres into the Clare net.Tipperary’s passing game with Ciarda Maher and captain Lorna O’Dwyer prominent was proving difficult to contain and Rosin Howard along with Niamh Treacy scored fine points. against the run of play Tipperary failed to clear and Clare broke through to goal. Tipperary responded superbly with a Roisin Howard strike grazing the Clare upright for a wide Tipperary were creating a lot of scoring chances but over elaborated at times however the forwards especially Sinead Meagher and Rosin Howard kept the scores ticking over,in the final minute Clare goaled with what looked like a square ball but the referee waved away Tipperary’s protests however after a couple of minutes injury time blew the final whistle with Tipperary the victors 1.15 to 2.07
