The Philly Ryan Cup
Tipperary GAA was delighted to accept the Philly Ryan Cup from Philly’s family and his beloved club, Clonmel Commercials, in recognition of a man who gave so much to football in Tipperary. Philly was a proud Clonmel Commercials clubman and a hugely respected figure within Tipperary football serving the game with distinction as a player, coach, manager and mentor. His contribution to both club and county was immense and his passion for football was evident throughout his long involvement in the GAA. It is fitting that his name will now have a permanent place in Tipperary football with the Philly Ryan Cup becoming the trophy presented to the winners of the Tipperary County Senior Football Championship. The cup was presented by Philly’s wife Anna, daughters Amy and Katie and son Shane alongside representatives of Clonmel Commercials. A fitting and lasting tribute to a man whose contribution to Tipperary football will never be forgotten.

2026 FBD Insurance County Hurling Championships
The Semi Finals across the Senior, Premier Intermediate, Intermediate and Junior ‘A’ grades along with the Junior ‘B’ Quarter Finals take place this coming weekend. In addition, the Senior, Premier Intermediate and Intermediate Hurling Relegation Finals will also take place.
Senior Hurling Championship
The Senior Semi Finals will both take place as the second part of two double headers this coming weekend in FBD Semple Stadium.
Nenagh Éire Óg and Thurles Sarsfields will renew their rivalry when the town sides meet this Saturday 26th at 3.45 pm. Both clubs are no strangers to the Semi Final stage. Éire Óg defeated Drom & Inch at this stage last year and will be looking to make it back-to-back County Finals while Sarsfields were last at this stage two years ago when they lost to Loughmore Castleiney.
This will be a repeat of the 2018 Semi Final when Nenagh Éire Óg ended Thurles Sarsfields’ quest for five-in-a-row winning out 2-18 to 2-15. Paddy Murphy and Andrew Coffey were the Éire Óg goalscorers while Ronan and Denis Maher found the net for Sarsfields.

The second Semi Final between JK Brackens and Moycarkey Borris takes place this Sunday 27th at 3.45 pm. It will be a historic occasion for JK Brackens as they make their first ever appearance in a County Senior Hurling Semi Final. Moycarkey Borris reached this stage two years ago when they lost out to Toomevara.
It is not the first time these two sides have met in a County Semi Final, however, with their first teams having clashed in the 2018 Premier Intermediate Semi Final. The sides met in The Ragg on that occasion, with Moycarkey Borris coming out on top on a 1-18 to 0-18 scoreline – Anthony McKelvey scoring the all important goal. The sides also met earlier this year in the Centenary Agri Mid Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship Quarter Final with the game going to penalties. JK Brackens emerged victorious on a 5-3 scoreline.

The Relegation Final between CJ Kickhams Mullinahone and Roscrea takes place this Sunday 27th at 3.15 pm in Templetuohy. Mullinahone have played at Senior grade since 2021, having won the Premier Intermediate title in 2020, while Roscrea have been playing Senior for the last four years after winning the Premier Intermediate title in 2022.
Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship
Two exciting Semi Finals at the Premier Intermediate grade await this weekend, with both games forming part of the curtain raisers to the Senior Semi Finals in FBD Semple Stadium.
On Saturday 26th, Killenaule face Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill at 2.00 pm. Since the incorporation of the Premier Intermediate grade in 2017, Killenaule have made three Semi Final appearances, losing to Thurles Sarsfields in 2023, defeating St Mary’s in 2021 and losing to Lorrha Dorrha in 2020. They are no strangers to this stage, while this will be Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill’s first Semi Final appearance at this grade.

The same venue will host the second Semi Final on Sunday 27th at 2.00 pm when town sides St Mary’s and Thurles Sarsfields meet. Sarsfields defeated Killenaule at this stage in 2023 while St Mary’s have made back to back Semi Final appearances, losing to Killenaule in 2021 and Gortnahoe Glengoole in 2022.
Carrick Swan and Templederry Kenyons will face each other in the Premier Intermediate Relegation Final on Saturday 26th at 4.15 pm in Boherlahan. Templederry Kenyons have not played at Intermediate grade since winning the County Intermediate title in 2008 while Carrick Swan have not played at Intermediate grade since the early 1970s.
Intermediate Hurling Championship
Both Semi Finals take place this Sunday 27th. At 1.30 pm in The Ragg, Borrisokane face Ballingarry. Borrisokane lost out to Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams at this stage last year while Ballingarry defeated Golden Kilfeacle in the 2024 Semi Final.
West rivals Arravale Rovers and Cappawhite face each other at 2.00 pm in Dundrum. These sides have already met this year when Arravale Rovers defeated Cappawhite 3-19 to 2-21 in a thrilling Tipperary Credit Union West Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi Final.

It will be three years in a row at this stage for Cappawhite, who will be hoping to overturn their recent fortunes having lost to Golden Kilfeacle last year and Moneygall the year before. Arravale Rovers have not featured at this stage in recent years.
The Relegation Final takes place on Saturday 26th at 4.15 pm in Bansha where Ballybacon Grange take on Clonoulty Rossmore. This is Clonoulty Rossmore’s third year at Intermediate grade with their second team having won the County Junior ‘A’ title in 2023. Ballybacon Grange have played at Intermediate grade since 2018 after winning the Junior ‘A’ title in 2017.
Junior ‘A’ Hurling Championship
The Junior ‘A’ Hurling Semi Finals take place as a double header this coming Sunday 27th in Cashel. At 2.00 pm, Lattin Cullen face South champions St Patrick’s followed at 3.45 pm by West champions Galtee Rovers St Pecaun against Fethard. St Patrick’s are the most recent of the four teams to have played at the Semi Final stage having reached this stage in 2024 before losing to Kiladangan.
Junior ‘B’ Hurling Championship
We are now at the Quarter Final stage of the Junior ‘B’ Championship, with four games down for decision this coming weekend. On Saturday 26th, West champions Rosegreen take on Newport in Cappawhite at 2.00 pm while at the same time in Drombane – Golden Kilfeacle face North champions Ballina.
On Sunday 27th, at 1.30 pm in New Inn, South champions Clerihan take on Gortnahoe Glengoole while at 4.00pm – Mid champions Killea take on Cahir in Holycross.

Supporters are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance through the Tipperary GAA website. Entry to all venues is by Tap & Go, but purchasing tickets beforehand will help avoid delays at the gate.
Please allow extra time for parking and arrive early to ensure you are in place before throw-in.

Minor Championships
Congratulations to St Mary’s who claimed the County Minor ‘C’ Hurling title last Wednesday evening in Fethard Town Park following a high scoring 4-15 to 5-7 victory over St Patrick’s. St Mary’s led 1-7 to 0-4 at half time with the second half producing an exciting increase in scoring as both sides added eight goals between them. After the game, St Mary’s Oisín Mannion accepted the Park Avenue Cup from South Board Chairperson Nicholas Moroney.

In the ‘B’ competition, Moyne Templetuohy-Loughmore Castleiney defeated Carrick Swan last Thursday in Fethard Town Park in the first of the County Minor ‘B’ Hurling Semi Finals. The Mid combination held a five point advantage at half time, 0-13 to 1-5, and maintained that lead to run out winners on a scoreline of 1-18 to 1-13. The second ‘B’ Semi Final took place last Saturday in Templemore where Naomh Eoin, the Borrisokane and Shannon Rovers combination, recorded a comfortable 3-20 to 1-11 victory over Golden Kilfeacle. The North side led 2-15 to 1-5 at half time.
The County Minor ‘A’ Hurling Semi Finals also took place last Saturday at 3.30pm. In Templemore, Newport produced an impressive performance to account for Cashel King Cormacs having been in control throughout. In Dundrum, St Mary’s continued a memorable few days for the club following their second team’s ‘C’ title success on Wednesday, with the first team producing an excellent performance to defeat Thurles Sarsfields by 2-20 to 1-20.
The ‘A’ Hurling Final will take place on Saturday 10th at 2.00 pm in The Ragg with the ‘B’ Final taking place at the same time in Templederry.
The business end of the Minor Football Championship is also approaching with both ‘A’ Semi Finals taking place on Friday 2nd October at 8.00 pm. Newport face Aherlow in Cappawhite while JK Brackens take on Moyle Rovers in Clonoulty.
The ‘B’ Semi Finals will also take place on Friday 2nd at 8.00 pm. Naomh Éoin will face the West winners of Rockwell Rovers or Galtee Rovers in Templetuohy while Moycarkey Borris face Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams in Fethard.
The ‘C’ County Final takes place this coming Wednesday 23rd September at 7.30 pm in Fethard Town Park
2026 FBD Insurance County Football Championships
Last weekend was a busy one on the football front with the FBD Insurance County Football Championship Quarter Finals taking place across the Senior, Intermediate, Premier Junior and Junior A grades along with the relegation fixtures.
Senior Football Championship
In the Senior Quarter Finals, Moyle Rovers continued their good form when they accounted for Ardfinnan last Saturday in Clonmel Sportsfield on a scoreline of 2-18 to 2-14. Moyle Rovers led by three points at half time before stretching their advantage to nine early in the second half with two goals. Ardfinnan continued to apply pressure and reduced the deficit to three points late on but Moyle Rovers held firm to secure their place in the Semi Finals.

The following day in Holycross, Loughmore Castleiney booked their place in the Semi Finals with a commanding 5-13 to 1-13 victory over neighbours JK Brackens. Brackens came into the game on the back of their impressive hurling Quarter Final victory the previous weekend but found it difficult to gain a foothold against a strong Loughmore Castleiney side. Loughmore made the perfect start, scoring two early goals to take an early grip on proceedings. Brackens responded with a goal of their own and with the sides trading goals in a remarkable opening period, four goals were scored inside the first ten minutes. Loughmore Castleiney led by six points at half time. Brackens reduced the deficit to three early in the second half but Loughmore responded with another goal and went on to take control of the game running out convincing winners.
Going into the Semi Finals, Loughmore Castleiney will face Kilsheelan Kilcash on Sunday 4th at 3.45 pm in Dundrum while South rivals Clonmel Commercials and Moyle Rovers will face each other the previous day, Saturday 3rd, at 3.45 pm in Kilsheelan.
The Senior Relegation Semi Final took place on Saturday in Clonmel Sportsfield with Ballyporeen holding out for a narrow 2-10 to 1-12 victory over Grangemockler Ballyneale. Ballyporeen led by a slender one point margin at half time with little separating the sides throughout a closely fought contest. The teams were level heading into the closing stages but a late point secured victory for Ballyporeen and a place in the Relegation Final. Grangemockler Ballyneale will now meet Aherlow in the Senior Relegation Final on Saturday 3rd at 4.00 pm in Ardfinnan.
Intermediate Football Championship
It was a clash between two of the Rovers in the west in the County Intermediate Football Championship Quarter Finals with Rockwell defeating Galtee 2-16 to 2-9 last Sunday. Rockwell Rovers led 1-7 to 1-4 at half time before stretching their advantage further with a second goal nine minutes into the second half. Galtee Rovers continued to battle and got a goal with five minutes remaining but it was not enough to make a significant dent in the Rockwell lead as Rockwell secured a convincing victory and a place in the Semi Finals.
Fethard produced an excellent second half performance to overcome Moyne Templetuohy in the other Quarter Final. Moyne started brightly and dominated the opening half going five points clear after the first quarter. Fethard got a crucial goal before half time to give themselves hope but Moyne still led 0-13 to 1-2 at the interval. It proved to be a game of two halves as Fethard completely turned the contest around after the break. They raced out of the traps in the second half reducing the deficit to just one point inside the opening eight minutes before taking the lead with a goal in the 41st minute. From there, Fethard never looked back, holding out strongly to secure a 2-13 to 0-15 victory and their place in the Semi Finals.

In the Semi Finals, divisional rivals will clash with both games taking place on Sunday 4th. At 2.00 pm in Dundrum, Rockwell Rovers take on Golden Kilfeacle while at 3.45 pm in Clonmel – Fethard face Killenaule.
Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill had a 2-9 to 2-5 victory over Clonmel Óg last Saturday in the Intermediate Relegation Semi Final. A clonmel side goal in first half separated the sides at half time but eire og had the sides scores level early into the second half and took the lead with a goal mid way through the half and never looked back. Clonmel Óg will face Moycarkey Borris in the Relegation Final on Saturday 3rd at 1.45 pm in Fethard.
Premier Junior Football Championship
There was victory for Fr Sheehy’s over Loughmore Castleiney last Saturday in the Premier Junior Quarter Finals. It was a game of two halves, with Loughmore Castleiney leading 0-7 to 1-1 at half time. However, Fr Sheehy’s were well on top after the break and produced an impressive second-half display, outscoring Loughmore 2-13 to 0-3 to secure a comprehensive 3-14 to 0-10 victory. The second Quarter Final took place the following day with Moyle Rovers putting in a strong performance to defeat Borrisokane 3-7 to 0-13. Goals separated the sides in the first half with Moyle Rovers leading 2-5 to 0-8 at the interval. A third Moyle Rovers goal nine minutes into the second half helped them withstand a Borrisokane fightback although Borrisokane reduced the deficit to two points on a number of occasions during the second half.

The Semi Final line up sees Fr Sheehys facing Carrick Swan on Saturday 3rd October at 2.00 pm in Kilsheelan. Clonmel Sportsfield will host the second Semi Final on Sunday 4th with Moyle Rovers facing CJ Kickhams Mullinahone at 2.00 pm.
The Premier Junior Relegation Round 1 game took place last Sunday with Sean Treacys comfortably defeating Clonoulty Rossmore 1-18 to 0-8. Clonoulty Rossmore will now face JK Brackens in the Relegation Round 2 game on Saturday 3rd at 2.30 pm in Drombane. JK Brackens then face Sean Treacys in Round 3. The bottom two teams in the Relegation Play Off will play Junior Football in 2027.
Junior A Football Championship
Victories for the divisional winners were recorded last Saturday in the Junior A Football Championship Quarter Finals with recent Mid champions Boherlahan Dualla accounting for Clerihan 3-15 to 1-7. Boherlahan Dualla led by nine points at half time and continued to control the game after the break to secure a comfortable victory.
The second game on Saturday was a much closer affair, with South champions Ballylooby Castlegrace defeating Gortnahoe Glengoole 1-14 to 1-11. Gortnahoe Glengoole led by a goal at half time but Ballylooby Castlegrace gradually got to grips with their opponents as the second half progressed. They eventually levelled matters before a late goal secured victory for the South champions.
There was one Quarter Final on Sunday with Cappawhite recording a comprehensive 7-10 to 0-8 victory over a depleted Nenagh Éire Óg side. Cappawhite led 4-6 to 0-1 at half time and continued to dominate after the break.
The final Quarter Final takes place on Tuesday 22nd at 8.00 pm in Coolmore Morris Park where Shannon Rovers face Golden Kilfeacle. The Semi Final draws will take place on the morning of Wednesday 23rd.
Junior B Football Championship
The Quarter Final stages of the County Junior ‘B’ Football Championship are upcoming with only one fixture confirmed at the time of going to print. Portroe will face Solohead on Sunday 4th at 2.00 pm in Newport.
West champions Rosegreen advance directly to the Semi Finals with the North only have one representative at this stage. The Mid Championship has yet to be decided with South champions Killenaule set to face the Mid runners up while the Mid winners will take on Carrick Davins.
Under 16 Hurling Championship
The County Semi Finals of the Under 16 Hurling Championship took place in recent days.
In the ‘A’ Championship, Toomevara recorded a 1-22 to 0-19 victory over Moycarkey Borris to book their place in the Final. They will face Cashel King Cormacs who defeated St Mary’s 0-22 to 0-14 in the other Semi Final. In the ‘B’ Championship, Arravale Rovers defeated St Patrick’s 3-12 to 2-8, while Moneygall accounted for Upperchurch Drombane on a scoreline of 3-11 to 1-15.
Both Under 16 Hurling Finals take place this coming Saturday 26th at 5.15 pm – The Ragg will host the ‘A’ Final while Kilcommon will host the ‘B’ Final

Youth Football Coaches Development Workshop
A Youth Football Coaches Development Workshop with Tipperary Senior Football Coach Conor McNally will take place on Wednesday 30th September from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm at the Abbey CBS Astro in Tipperary Town.
The workshop will focus on:
- Designing a Games-Based Session
- Support Play and Transition
The workshop is aimed at youth football coaches and will provide practical ideas and guidance to help coaches develop their sessions and players.

Shinty-Hurling International
Congratulations to Eamon O’Shea and Tommy Dunne who have been named as part of the Ireland management team for the 2026 Shinty-Hurling International against Scotland.
Former Tipperary Senior hurling manager Eamon O’Shea (Kilruane MacDonaghs) will take charge of the Ireland team with Toomevara’s Tommy Dunne named as coach.
The Ireland team will take on Scotland in the annual international at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh in Cork on Saturday 24th October at 6.00 pm.

Concussion Education Course
The GAA, LGFA and Camogie Associations are making a free Concussion Education Course available to club members across the country, with one course taking place in each province during October and November.
The interactive courses are aimed at non-medically-trained volunteers and will help participants recognise the main signs and symptoms of concussion while providing an understanding of the principles of concussion management, treatment and rehabilitation.
The Munster course will take place at Munster GAA HQ, Limerick, on Tuesday 3rd November at 7.30 pm.
The course is open to all club members, with those interested encouraged to register in advance.

Tipperary Hurler of the Year 2026
Voting is now open for the Tipperary Supporters Club Senior Hurler of the Year for 2026. The winner will receive the Tony Reddin Perpetual Cup, which was awarded to Ronan Maher of Thurles Sarsfields in 2024 and John McGrath of Loughmore Castleiney in 2025.
Paid-up members of the Tipperary Supporters Club can select any player from the Tipperary Senior Hurling squad. Votes can be registered by emailing info@tippsupportersclub.com with the name of your selection.
