Tipperary GAA Launches Strategic Plan 2026–2030

Last Thursday, Tipperary GAA officially launched its Strategic Plan 2026–2030 at the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh, outlining a clear vision for the future development of Gaelic Games across the county over the next five years.

The plan focuses on six key strategic pillars: Clubs and Communities, Coaching and Games Development, Participation and Retention, Facilities, Governance and Funding. It aims to strengthen clubs, enhance coaching and player pathways, invest in county facilities, improve governance and ensure the long term sustainability of Gaelic Games throughout Tipperary.

The Strategic Plan was developed by a Steering Group comprising Liam Sheedy (Portroe), Laurenz Egan (Moycarkey Borris), Tommy Dunne (Toomevara), Conor O’Brien (Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill), Paudie Comerford (Holycross Ballycahill), Joe McGrath (Nenagh Éire Óg), PJ Flanagan (Moycarkey Borris), Mark McLoughlin (Roscrea), Mark Stapleton (Borris-Ileigh) and Tom Flanagan (Moycarkey Borris).

Addressing those in attendance were Tipperary GAA Chairperson Jimmy Minogue, Chief Executive Officer Murtagh Brennan, Liam Sheedy and Tipperary Senior Hurling Manager Liam Cahill. The evening concluded with an engaging question and answer session involving the speakers.

Divisional Championships

The second round of the ArraTipp West Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship took place last Friday evening in Cashel. Golden Kilfeacle’s first championship game at Premier Intermediate level proved to be a successful one as they recorded a 0-24 to 0-20 victory over Éire Óg Annacarty Donohill. The third round game in the group takes place this Saturday July 11th at 5.00 pm in Dundrum where Golden Kilfeacle will face Seán Treacys. The top two teams in the group will meet in the Final which is scheduled for Saturday July 18th. The second Semi Final of the Tipperary Credit Union West Intermediate Hurling Championship took place last Sunday in Dundrum where a late surge from Arravale Rovers secured a thrilling 3-19 to 2-21 victory over Cappawhite. Rovers now advance to the Final where they will face Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams on Friday July 10th at 7.30 pm in Annacarty. The Final of the ArraTipp West Senior Hurling Championship takes place this Saturday July 11th at 7.00 pm in Dundrum where Cashel King Cormacs will take on holders Clonoulty Rossmore. Clonoulty Rossmore are aiming to complete an unprecedented ten in a row of West Senior titles having defeated Cashel in three of the last four finals. Cashel, meanwhile, will be hoping to capture their first West Senior Hurling Championship title since 1995.

The Semi Finals of the South Intermediate Hurling Championship took place last weekend. On Saturday, Skeheenarinky recorded a 1-20 to 0-20 victory over Ballybacon Grange while on Sunday, Ballingarry produced an outstanding display to defeat Moyle Rovers by 5-23 to 1-15. Ballingarry will now face Skeheenarinky in the Final which takes place this Saturday July 11th at 6.30 pm in Clonmel Sportsfield. Ballingarry will be hoping to atone for last year’s Final defeat to Kilsheelan Kilcash by claiming the title. The Semi Finals of the Clonmel Oil South Senior Hurling Championship also took place last weekend. Reigning champions Carrick Swan were dethroned in impressive fashion by Mullinahone, who recorded a 1-22 to 0-16 victory in Clonmel Sportsfield on Saturday. On Sunday, in Páirc na nEalaí, Carrick, St Mary’s produced an impressive performance to defeat last year’s Finalists, Killenaule, by 3-17 to 0-19. The Final takes place this Sunday July 12th at 2.00 pm in Fethard. Mullinahone will be aiming to win the South Senior Hurling Championship for the 15th time and claim their first title since 2019. St Mary’s, meanwhile, will be contesting their first South Senior Final since 1988 and will be bidding to add to their sole championship success, which came in 1981.

Semi Final action dominated the North Tipperary Hurling Championships last weekend. In the Munster Solar North Senior Hurling Championship Semi Finals, Borris-Ileigh produced a superb display on Saturday evening to defeat Kiladangan by 2-23 to 1-14. On Sunday, Nenagh Éire Óg came through a thrilling encounter with Roscrea emerging 1-27 to 1-21 winners after extra time. In the Liam Buckley Car Sales North Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi Finals, a late surge from Silvermines on Saturday secured a 1-18 to 1-16 victory over Moneygall. The second Semi Final also required extra time, with reigning champions Ballina edging out LorrhaDorrha by 1-26 to 1-24. The North Finals will be played as a double header this Sunday, July 12th, in MacDonagh Park, Nenagh. The Premier Intermediate Final throws in at 2.00 pm with holders Ballina taking on Silvermines. Ballina will be aiming to retain the title they won last year with victory over Burgess while Silvermines are back in the Final after losing to Burgess in the 2024 decider. The Senior Final follows at 4.00 pm with Nenagh Éire Óg facing Borris-Ileigh. Nenagh Éire Óg will be bidding for a 12th North Senior title and are appearing in their first Final since completing back to back championship victories in 2022 and 2023. Borris-Ileigh, who have won the title on 14 occasions, will be hoping to make amends for last year’s Final defeat and capture their first North Senior crown since 2017. The clubs have met four times previously in North Senior Finals in 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2017. Nenagh Éire Óg’s only Final victory over Borris-Ileigh came in 2001 with Borris-Ileigh emerging victorious in the other three deciders.

The Centenary Agri Mid Senior Hurling Championship Semi Finals took place last Sunday. Earlier in the afternoon in The Ragg, Holycross Ballycahill produced an impressive performance to defeat Thurles Sarsfields by 2-21 to 0-17. Later that evening, Loughmore Castleiney overcame reigning champions JK Brackens by 3-23 to 0-24 to book their place in the Final. The Final will take place this Sunday July 12th at 3.00 pm in Boherlahan. Loughmore Castleiney will be aiming to claim their 15th Mid Senior title having most recently lifted the trophy in 2024. Holycross Ballycahill are not far behind on the roll of honour with 12 titles but they have endured a much longer wait for success, with their last championship victory coming in 1999. Interestingly, that was also Holycross-Ballycahill’s last appearance in a Mid Senior Final, when they defeated Loughmore-Castleiney by 1-13 to 1-10 to claim the title. The Semi Finals of the Doran Oil Mid Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship also took place last weekend. Thurles Sarsfields defeated Gortnahoe-Glengoole by 1-20 to 0-18 while Moyne Templetuohy recorded a 2-19 to 0-16 victory over Boherlahan Dualla. The two sides will now meet in the Final, which takes place this Sunday July 12th at 1.00 pm in Boherlahan The Roadstone Mid Intermediate Hurling Championship Final will also be played this weekend and features a novel pairing. Clonakenny, who were relegated from the Premier Intermediate Championship last year will take on newly promoted Holycross Ballycahill. The game will take place on Saturday July 11th at 4.30 pm in Littleton.

Minor ‘C’ County Championship

The Minor C County Football Championship got underway on Wednesday July 1st with St. Patrick’s recording a 3-7 to 0-9 victory over Newcastle while Ballingarry received a walkover from Carrick Davins. The second round of the championship is scheduled for Wednesday July 15th with Newcastle hosting Thurles Gaels and Carrick Davins welcoming St. Patrick’s.

Attention now turns to the Minor ‘C’ County Hurling Championship, which throws in this Wednesday July 8th with all games starting at 7.30 pm. Carrick Davins host Newcastle, Lorrha Dorrha host St. Patrick’s and St. Mary’s welcome Thurles Gaels as the opening round gets underway.

Under 14 Football Camida Cup

The Under 14 Football Camida Cup takes place this Saturday July 11th in Killenaule with action getting underway at 11.00 am. Tipperary will be represented by South Tipperary, West Tipperary, and Mid/North Tipperary with the three divisional sides taking on Limerick and Offal sides.

Tipperary Masters

The Tipperary Masters hurlers are set to take on Galway in the All Ireland Masters Hurling Final on Saturday July 25th with fixture details to be confirmed. Best of luck to all the players and management as they aim to bring another title back to the Premier County.

Bulmers sponsored Jubilee Golf Classic

The inaugural Bulmers Tipperary GAA Jubilee Golf Classic was a tremendous success at Thurles Golf Club last Friday, as supporters, former players, sponsors and friends of Tipperary GAA came together for a great day of golf and celebration.

Held as part of the 25th anniversary of Tipperary’s 2001 All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship triumph, the event attracted a superb turnout with many Tipperary hurling greats taking part, including Seamus Callanan, Brendan Maher, Pádraic Maher, Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher, Paddy Stapleton, Nicky English, Eamonn Corcoran, Declan Ryan and Jack Bergin. They were joined by special guests Des Cahill, Alan Quinlan and Johnny B of The 2 Johnnies, who presented the prizes at the conclusion of the day’s play.

The organising committee led by Tommy Dunne, together with Noel Morris, Conor Gleeson and Jack Bergin thanked title sponsors Bulmers, Thurles Golf Club, all participants, volunteers and sponsors for helping make the event such a memorable occasion. Following the outstanding success of this year’s Golf Classic, there is already strong enthusiasm to make it an annual fixture on the Tipperary GAA calendar.

Under 13 Club Player Divisional Camps

Tipperary GAA’s Under 13 Club Player Divisional Camps offer players born in 2013 the chance to develop their football, hurling and athletic skills in a fun environment. The two day camps run from 10 am – 1 pm daily and cost €60 with each participant receiving a Tipperary GAA rucksack and water bottle.

2026 Tipperary Club Season Pass

The 2026 Tipperary GAA club season pass is now on sale and can be purchased via the events section of the Tipperary GAA App. The pass which will entitle the holder entry into all adult divisional and county games at adult level will cost €170.

Sympathy

Tipperary GAA offers its deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Paul Stapleton (Gortataggart, Thurles and formerly Longorchard, Templetuohy) who passed away recently.

Paul served as Secretary of the Referees’ Appointments Committee for over 10 years, working under a number of chairpersons during that time. He was the glue that kept everything together.

He was always willing to help referees with umpiring duties, both within and outside the county. Paul was also ever present in organising and covering the many inter-county games in Tipperary involving visiting referees.

He put his heart and soul into making refereeing and the overall refereeing set up better for everyone. His dedication, commitment and friendship will be greatly missed by us all, especially by his close friends in this group.

May Paul rest in peace.
