AIB Munster Club Championships

Tipperary Premier Intermediate Hurling champions Cashel King Cormacs travelled to the TUS Gaelic Grounds last Saturday evening where they were hoping to continue their impressive run in the Munster club championship. Standing in their way of claiming a Munster Intermediate title were Cork’s Watergrasshill. Played in fairly challenging weather conditions, the Tipperary champions struggled to get to the pace of the game and in the end had to give way to their opponents on a full time score of 1-21 to 0-14. While Cashel King Cormacs will be disappointed with the result of the game, they can also be very proud of their achievements in 2024 and can now look forward to life in the senior hurling championship for 2025.

Scorers for Cashel King Cormacs: Devon Ryan 0-7 (7fs), Eoghan Connolly (2 sidelines), Oisín O’Donoghue, Adrian Cummins 0-2 each, Ger Browne 0-1.

Cashel King Cormacs: Jonathan Walsh; Kieran O’Dwyer, Nathan Ryan, Conn Bonnar; James Cummins, Conor O’Dwyer, Anthony Walsh; Ronan Connolly, Eoghan Connolly; Ross Bonnar, Devon Ryan, Cathal Quinn; Paddy Fahy, Oisín O’Donoghue, David McGrath. Subs: Ger Browne for McGrath (42), Adrian Cummins for Fahy (52), Dan Moloney for A Walsh (57).

This coming weekend is another big weekend for Tipperary clubs in the Munster Club championship with two teams contesting provincial finals. On Saturday in Mallow at 1pm, Tipperary Intermediate football champions Aherlow will face Kerry side Austin Stacks in the Munster club Intermediate football final. This will be a huge occasion for the West Tipperary side who have been very impressive in all their games to date. There is no denying that this game will be a big test for Aherlow, but there is also no denying that they will bring everything they have to the game and we wish them the very best of luck.

On Sunday in Mallow, Tipperary senior football champions Loughmore Castleiney will lock horns with Kerry king pins Dr. Crokes in the Munster club senior football final at 1.30pm. Having overcame Clare side Eire Óg Ennis in the semi-final, the Mid Tipperary side will be well aware of the challenge that lies in store on Sunday afternoon. However there is no doubt but they will travel to the Cork venue full of optimism and in the hope that they can claim the first Munster title in the grade. Again we wish the players and team management the very best of luck.

GAA Special Congress

All 49 motions were passed at GAA Special Congress.

Broken down into 18 voting categories, the motions were carried with overwhelming majorities. In October, The Football Review Committee chaired by former Dublin manager Jim Gavin, launched an interim report. The FRC recommended seven core rule enhancements which were trialled in the Allianz GAA Football Inter-Provincial Series. GAA’s Central Council subsequently met to review the FRC Interim Report/Rule proposals.

Motion One was carried so rule changes made at Special Congress will be adopted on a temporary basis for one year, commencing on January 1, 2025. Central Council shall be entitled to rescind or amend any rule changes. At the end of the Special Congress, GAA President Jarlath Burns acknowledged the work carried out by the FRC. “This has given a resounding mandate for improvements in Gaelic Football,” Uachtarán CLG Burns remarked. Throughout the morning Gavin stated that this was ‘only the beginning of a process’, and that the FRC was ‘starting rather than finishing a journey’. The former Dublin manager said: “We’re in this together, it is a team effort. We’d like to acknowledge the leadership in this room. “The FRC is here to serve you and we will continue our engagement. Ultimately, the ambition is that Gaelic Games will be the most enjoyable amateur games in the world to play and watch.”
