AIB Munster Club Championships
Tipperary had 3 teams in action in last weekend’s AIB Munster Club football championship. On Saturday afternoon in Fethard, Cashel King Cormacs played Cork side Kilmurry in the Munster Junior football club championship semi-final. On the day the visitors proved to be that bit stronger than Cashel who were without a number of regulars, and in the end the West Tipperary side lost out on a full-time score of 4-23 to 1-02.
On Sunday afternoon in the Lattin Cullen GAA grounds, Tipperary Intermediate football champions Aherlow welcomed Wolfe Tones of Shannon for their Munster Intermediate club championship semi-final. Having already overcame Waterford’s Stradbally, the men from the glen were really anxious to secure their second win and a place in this year’s final. The game was very evenly balance all through with never more than a score or two between the teams. The sides were level at two points each in the 30th minute when Ben Carey got a crucial goal for Aherlow. A Wolfe Tones kickout, held up in the wind, was won by Aherlow who worked the forward to Carey. The centre-forward’s scuffed shot had enough on it to beat onrushing goalkeeper Shane Russell. Aherlow led 1-3 to 0-2 at the break. The second half was once again nip and tuck and as the game entered the closing stages it looked as if a draw was on the cards, but once again it was Barry Grogan who hit a 63rd minute winning point from a free for Aherlow. The score which was his fifth point of the game, was brilliantly curled over the bar from wide on the left and was greeted by rapturous applause by the home supporters. The full time score saw Aherlow ahead by 1-06 to 0-08. Aherlow will now play Kerry side Austin Stacks in the final on December 12th.
Also on Sunday afternoon, County senior football champions Loughmore Castleiney travelled to Cusack Park in Ennis to play Eire Óg Ennis in the Munster senior football club championship semi-final. Having lost out in the hurling 7 days previously it was obvious from the start that the Tipperary lads were very anxious to make amends and they got the perfect start when Brian McGrath got himself on the end of a well worked move to goal in the opening minute of the game. However the Clare side had the game back on level terms in the 7th minute from the penalty spot and from there on the first half was very evenly balanced. Loughmore emerged for the second half a much sharper side and they really dominated the majority of the second half, making the vital changes from the line that in the end saw them over the the finish line in front on a full time score of 3-09 to 2-07 and in the process securing their place in the Munster final for the first time in 51 years where they will play Kerry’s Dr Crokes on December 8th.
This coming weekend will be a massive weekend for the hurlers of Cashel King Cormacks as they travel to the TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick to play Watergrasshill in the AIB Munster Intermediate club championship final at 6pm on Saturday evening. We encourage as many Tipperary supporters to head along to this game and show your support for our counties representatives as they aim to bring a provincial title back to Tipperary and the city of the kings. Tickets for the game are available on the Munster GAA website, in selected centra and supervalu stores, while a tap & go system will also be available at the venue on the day.
County Under 21 Championships
Last weekend saw two games taking place in the FBD Insurance county under 21 hurling championships. On Sunday afternoon in Golden, Clonoulty Rossmore overcame Carrick Swan in the “A” semi-final by 3-14 to 3-11. In Toomevara Boherlahan Dualla defeated Burgess by 0-18 to 0-15 in the “B” semi-final. This coming weekend will see games taking place in both the under 21 hurling and football championships, with some very entertaining games in store.
On Saturday afternoon in the Ragg there is sure to be a big attendance to see the clash of Borris-Ileigh and Holycross Ballycahill in the FBD Insurance county under 21 “A” semi final which throws in at 12pm.
Then on Sunday, the second semi-final of the under 21 “B” hurling championship between Galtee Rovers and Kilsheelan Kilcash will take place in Cahir at 1.30pm. In the football championship, Galtee Rovers and Clonmel Commercials will meet in New Inn for their “A” semi-final clash at 1.30pm, while at the same time in Templederry the other semi-final will see JK Brackens taking on Ballina.

GAA Club Officer Training 2024 – 2025
The GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association are pleased to confirm the next phase of Club Officer training scheduled for the end of 2024 and beginning of 2025. We kindly ask that you share this update with your fellow Club Officers.
The Planning and Training Committee has worked closely with the Provincial Councils, County Committees, LGFA and Camogie Association to make a range of training opportunities available to both new and existing Club Officers. As part of our efforts to acknowledge the contributions volunteers make to our Associations, we will be introducing a scheme in 2025 that recognises active volunteers by providing meaningful and beneficial rewards. While some details are still being confirmed we do know that recent engagement with Club Officer training is one metric that will be used to determine a volunteers level of activity. This means that volunteers completing Club Leadership Development Programme modules in 2024 and 2025 stand to benefit beyond the valuable skill and knowledge development gained from completing modules.
Here is a summary of what’s available:
- Role Induction Webinars
Each GAA Provincial Council will lead the delivery of online role-induction training for Chairpersons, Secretaries, Treasurers, PROs and Coaching Officers on the following dates:
- 7 January – Ulster
- 8 January – Connacht
- 15 January – Leinster
- 16 January – Munster
Some GAA Provinces will also provide webinars for other roles, so please refer to the events calendar for more information: https://learning.gaa.ie/club_leadership
- Club Governance
In-person governance workshops will be held in each County next February, giving Club Officers an opportunity to meet, share experiences, and improve their understanding of essential governance tasks for 2025. This training will be offered both in person and as an eLearning module for those who prefer online learning. Registration opens in December.
- Volunteer Management
We are pleased to introduce the first accredited volunteer management course specifically for Club Officers, developed in partnership with SETU Carlow. This micro-credential course will strengthen volunteer management and succession planning skills, and formally acknowledge the dedication of volunteers to their personal development. Applications open in December.
- IT Systems
Webinars and tutorial videos on the Foireann system and Microsoft 365 Apps (including OneDrive, Forms, and Planner) are being developed to support digital proficiency among Club Officers. You can sign-up today for the Foireann webinars via the calendar, while the tutorial videos will be ready in the New Year:

Game Changer project launched by Ruhama, GAA and White Ribbon Ireland
Game Changer, a new project aimed at raising awareness and action through sport to tackle Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (DSGBV) has been launched today (Monday, 25th November 2024). Game Changer will seek to harness the positive influence of Gaelic Games to challenge the social and cultural norms that contribute to gender-based violence and sexual exploitation and aims to deliver positive behaviour change throughout society.
Game Changer is a partnership between Ruhama, the GAA, and White Ribbon Ireland, supported by the LGFA and Camogie Associations. The project is a strategic response to deliver on the goals of the Government’s Third National Strategy on Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (DSGBV) with funding from the Government of Ireland, led by Cuan under the aegis of the Department of Justice. The three-year project will deliver a number of initiatives and will work with Gaelic Games to:
- Challenge the societal culture of sexual violence, including sharing of pornography, intimate image abuse and sexual exploitation.
- Encourage behaviours that support values of gender equality and respect; and build confidence, opportunity and ‘sense of place’ for women and girls.
- Encourage men and boys to engage in active allyship to eradicate gender-based violence in our society.
- Support the challenging and disclosure of abusive behaviours.
- Raise awareness of the harms and consequences of human trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The first phase of Game Changer was launched today to mark the first day of the annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This initial phase will see a Gaelic Games-specific campaign which will promote freedom from fear of gender-based harassment and violence for women in society. The campaign will be promoted across all Gaelic Games communication channels, directly to all units and members, and therefore into every community in Ireland, including 500 clubs internationally located in 52 countries. It features four of Gaelic Games’ top inter-county stars, Oisin Gallen (Donegal footballer), Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh (Kerry LGFA), David Fitzgerald (Clare hurler), and Amy O Connor (Cork camogie), with a supporting cast of players from DCU’s four Gaelic Games codes. This awareness campaign has been informed by qualitative research conducted amongst Gaelic Games players and members (including the youth voice), officers, coaches and supporters from clubs across the four provinces.
