Munster Senior Hurling Championship
Next Sunday our Senior Hurlers will play Cork in Round 4 of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship at 4pm in FBD Semple Stadium. Having lost to Limerick and drawn with Waterford already, the result of this game will define the path our hurlers will take for the remainder of the Munster Championship. As things stand we need to win this game and our final game against Clare to keep our interest in this years competition alive. Demand for tickets has been very strong from both counties, with only terrace tickets now available to purchase on Ticketmaster and from selected Centra and Supervalu outlets. There have been 89 previous championship encounters, between the great rivals. Tipperary have won 39 games, Cork 38, while there were 9 draws, and three games were unfinished.

The last ten meetings at The Field of Legends have produced five Tipperary wins (1991, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2016), four Cork victories ( 2000, 2006, 2017 2022), with one draw, in 2018.
Munster Under 20 Hurling Championships Our under 20 Hurling team welcomed Clare to FBD Semple Stadium last Friday evening in what was their last game in the group stages of the competition. Following on from their previous results, Tipperary knew that anything other than a loss of more than 6 points would see them through to this year’s final. In the end the visitor emerged victorious by one point 0-18 to 1-14. Tipperary will now play the winners of Cork and Clare in this year’s Munster final which is scheduled to take place on Friday May 24th.

Munster Minor Hurling and Football Championships
The Tipperary Minor Hurlers defeated Limerick by 0-13 to 0-12 in Round 5 of the Electric Ireland Munster Minor Hurling Championship on Thursday May 9th at Mick Neville Park Rathkeale. As a result Tipperary booked their spot in the Munster Minor Hurling Championship Final against Clare next Monday, May 20th at 7pm in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

Our Minor Footballer’s interest in the Munster Championship came to an end when they were defeated by Kerry 2-19 to 2-05 in the semi final of the competition on Tuesday May 7th in FBD Semple Stadium. Tipperary now go on to compete in the new tier 3 competition where they will play against teams from the other provinces in the coming week’s.

2024 Tailteann Cup
Our Senior Footballers travelled to Corrigan Park in Belfast to play Antrim in Round 1 of the Tailteann Cup last Sunday afternoon. Following a 5 week break hopes were high that Tipperary would get the competition off to a winning start. However this was not to be as Antrim capitalised on the majority of their scoring chances to secure the win on a full time score of 4-12 to 2-13. Next up for Tipperary is a home game against Sligo in FBD Semple Stadium next Saturday.

All Ireland Scór Sinsear Final 2024
The INEC in Killarney was the destination for Scór contestants and supporters from around the country last weekend, for the All Ireland Sinsear Finals. Tipperary had two clubs competing for national honours on the day. First up were the quiz team of Joe Kennedy, Jim O’Meara, Tom Collier and Diarmuid Fogarty from Moyne Templetuohy. The lads put in a valiant performance throughout the quiz, but in the words of a famous quizmaster, the quwstions did not suit them on the day. However that said finishing in 9th position in a national final is a fantastic achievement and we congratulate the lads on their success.
Tipperary’s second contestant was Noel Joyce from the JK Brackens club, who wastaking part in the Recitation. As we have come to expect from Noel he put in an outstanding performance that saw him being crowned All Ireland Champion for the 5th time. This is a remarkable achievement for Noel and we congratulate him once again on his success.
Tipperary Handball News
The Irish 60×30 Nationals were held in Wexford venues at the weekend. Tipperary players were involved at the various venues throughout Wexford. In the Boys 15 & Under in Killmyshall Josh Moroney & Dean Carey from Ballina Handball Club were in a group with Adam & Tom Finn, Michael Green & John Reilly & Enrico Patrizi & Cian Murphy. The Ballina Boys reached the Final and beat Adam & Tom Finn Abbeylara 15/11, 15/3 to win the Nationals title. In the Men’s B Final in Templeudigan Ned and Rocky Reilly (Ballyporeen) dft Jamie Barnes & Jack Whitty 14/15, 15/5, 11/3. In the Men’s open Rory Grace Loch Eorna dft Gavin Buggy St Mary’s Wexford 15/5, 15/1 but was narrowly beaten in the Q/F by Tommy Hynes Wexford 15/11, 15/14. In a thrilling Golden Masters A Doubles Munster Final in Tuamgraney Martin Mc Inerney (Ballina) & Pat O Flaherty (Youghalarra) were up against Paul Hedderman & Ken Bourke (Limerick) . In a nailbiting first game Martin & Pat just about edged it winning 21/19. The second game was another close affair which the Limerick boys won 21/17. In the dreaded tie break to 11 limerick got the better start and looked to be cruising until some great kill shots and some great serving brought the Tipp boys back into the game and they eventually finished it off winning by 11/7 to claim the Munster title. Tipperary are still involved in a number of Munster finals this week and full report next week.
GAA announces official charity partners for 2024
The GAA has announced its list of charity partners for 2024.
Following a formal application process, four charities delivering work across a broad range of causes and important social issues were selected by the Association. In place since 2008, the GAA charity partner process has now delivered more than €1.5m to over 50 charities.
The charities were unveiled at a special photo call at Croke Park. They are:
- Hugh’s house
- The Alzheimer Society of Ireland
- Ruhama
- The Mater Hospital Foundation
Each of the four charities will receive a donation from the GAA in addition to opportunities to raise awareness about the important work they undertake.
Hugh’s House was founded by a family whose son Hugh spent most of his short life in hospital. The family observed while on their journey that many children didn’t receive visits from their families due to the lack of affordable accommodation in Dublin and steep travel costs.
The ethos of Hugh’s House is to provide free, safe, and comfortable accommodation to families who have sick children in Hospital in Dublin. From the smallest babies weighing under 400g to teenagers, every child wants their parents and siblings by their side for comfort. Some families only stay a few days, some are with use for years with the average stay being eight weeks. Just beyond a home away from home, Hugh’s House is a haven where families find support practical and emotional including the use of our beautiful garden. Nobody expects to have a child in hospital but when the need arises Hugh’s House is there with 14 beautiful individually designed rooms.
Hugh’s House is “a home away from home” for those affected.
The Alzheimer Society of Ireland is the national leader in advocating for and providing dementia-specific supports and services.
Our vision is an Ireland where people on the journey of dementia are valued and supported and our mission is to advocate, empower and champion the rights of people living with dementia and their communities to quality support and services.
A national non-profit organisation, the ASI is person-centered, rights-based and grassroots led with the voice of the person with dementia and their carer at its core. The ASI also operates the Alzheimer National Helpline offering information and support to anyone affected by dementia at 1800 341 341.
The ASI also provides a number of other supports and services to people with dementia and their carers across Ireland including Day Care, Day Care at Home, Home Care, Family Carer Training, Dementia Advisers, Alzheimer Cafes, and Social Clubs.
Ruhama is Ireland’s dedicated National NGO and charity responding to human trafficking, sexual exploitation, and prostitution. Ruhama provides a range of specialist integrated holistic supports including: Outreach, Casework, Counselling/Trauma Therapy, Training, Education/Development, Bridge to Work Programme, Seeking Safety Programme and Peer Support. Ruhama raises public awareness and advocates to influence policy that will support and protect individuals.
