Munster Senior Football Championship
There was disappointment for our Senior Footballers who were defeated by Waterford on a scoreline of 2-07 to 1-05 in the Munster Quarter Final, last Sunday afternoon in Dungarvan. Playing against the wind in the first half Tipperary lead at the break by 1-02 to 0-01 and it was a reasonable expectation that they would have pushed on in the second half with the aid of the breeze. However this was not the case as Waterford took a firm grasp on the game, outscoring Tipperary by 2-06 to 0-03 and in the process ending our involvement in this years Championship. The result will come as a major disappointment to players and supporters who would have seen this year as a major opportunity to get back into a Munster Senior Football Championship Final. It is the first time that a Tipperary Senior Football team have suffered defeat to Waterford since 1988 and Waterford’s first championship win in 10 years. The focus for our Senior Footballers will now turn towards the Tailteann Cup which will commence in a few short week’s time.

Munster Under 20 Football & Hurling Championships
Following on from their impressive displays against Limerick (draw), Clare (win) and Waterford (win), the Tipperary under 20 Footballers have now progressed to Phase 2 of the competition. Their first game in Phase 2 takes place this Wednesday evening at 7pm in Fethard Town Park where they will take on Cork before games against Clare and Kerry in the coming weeks.
Our under 20 Hurlers are also in action this week when they commence their Munster Championship campaign with a trip to Rathkeale to play Limerick on Friday evening at 7pm. Team manager Brendan Cummins and his backroom team have been preparing the panel of players for this campaign over the last number of months and they will go in to the competition with a certain degree of confidence that winning provincial and national honours are very achievable. We wish them well in their endeavors.
Munster Minor Hurling & Football Championships
Our Minor Hurlers commenced their season with a well deserved 1-19 to 2-12 win over Cork in FBD Semple Stadium last Thursday evening. The game was played in less than ideal overhead conditions with rain and wind the order of the day from start to finish, but James Woodlock’s side managed to deal with the conditions in relativity good fashion. The building blocks for their win was a storming opening and smart finish to the game and while the visitors did come into the game very well in the second half, Tipperary did enough to secure the points as they now look forward to their Round 2 clash with Waterford this Thursday evening at 7pm in Fraher Field, Dungarvan.

The Tipperary Minor Footballers also got off to winning ways last week when they overcame Limerick by 2-13 to 0-10 on Tuesday evening in Fethard Town Park. This was a really heartwarming performance by what appear to be a very promising group of young men who took full control of the game right from the throw in. Inspired by a magnificent performance from Dylan Cotter from the Thurles Gaels club, Tipperary never looked like they were under any real pressure, and this will now give them confidence as they continue their Munster journey.

Tipperary’s Round 2 game against Waterford took place on Tuesday evening in Lemybrien and once again Tipperary recorded a good 1-14 to 0-09 win. Tipperary had good performances across every line and now go in to their final game in the group against Clare next Tuesday with full points.

Munster Championship Tickets
Tickets for Tipperary’s forthcoming Munster Senior Hurling championship games are now on sale and can be purchased online from Ticketmaster.ie or in selected Centra and Supervalu stores across the county. Ghaeltacht Scholarships
This year Munster GAA are offering one full scholarship per county to the Gaeltacht’s. This is in addition to the scholarships that Tipperary already offer. The new scholarship competition will be for second-level students aged between 12–17 years, wishing to attend a Gaeltacht course this Summer (minimum stay 2 weeks). One Full scholarship per county in the province will be awarded. Scholarships will cover the full cost of the Gaeltacht course. Entry requirements are as follows:
Applicants aged 12 – 17 are required to submit a video recording in Irish of ONE MINUTE’S duration on the following Topic:

Tipperary Association Dublin
The Tipperary Association Dublin’s annual awards function will be held on Saturday 27 April next in the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel, Newlands Cross at 2.00 pm When the Tipperary Person of the year for 2023 will be presented to the well known duo of John O’Brien and John McMahon, better known as The 2 Johnnies. Also on the night, the Hall of Fame award for 2023 will be presented to singer and songwriter Brendan Graham. Tipperary Camogie
Best wishes to the Tipperary Senior Camogie team and management who will travel to Croke Park next Sunday afternoon to take on Galway in the Division 1A National Camogie league final. Under the management of Denis Kelly this team have made great progress and they will be hoping to bring national honours back to Tipperary after a long absence. Tipperary Camogie’s motion to the Camogie Associations Congress held last weekend, to replace the compulsory wearing of the skort with togs was defeated. This now means that female players must continue to wear what is, in the view of most adult players an outdated and uncomfortable playing attire, for at least another 3 years. It is most unfortunate that the views and wishes of those who play the game do not appear to have been taken on board by delegates to the congress, most of whom do not have to wear or never have worn the item in question.
Tipperary Handball News
The New Handball Centre in Croke Park was buzzing at the weekend with the Senior Ladies & Senior Men’s All-Ireland finals and all adult grade All Ireland Semi Finals. Tipperary were contesting 7 All Ireland semi – finals. The Ladies Senior was won by Caitriona Casey from Cork who beat Fiona Tully From Roscommon. Fresh from her trip to Mexico Caitriona was made to work hard winning 21/10, 21/16. The much awaited men’s senior between Paul Brady & Robbie Mc Carthy to a packed Croke Park saw Brady show all the skills that has him rated the World’s No 1 take the first game 21/16. In the second game Brady was on fire and pulled off some great shots to lead 16/4. He picked up a groin strain and had to leave the Court. Returning he played on with Mc Carthy picking up 4 more aces. Brady added to his injury while attempting to retrieve a ball from the back and was unable to continue which gave the All- Ireland title to Mc Carthy.
In the Intermediate Singles Semi Final Rory Grace Loch Eorna beat Ollie Cassidy from Mayo 21/8, 21/8. In the Junior Singles Jerome Cahill Loch Eorna Defeated Lorcan Conlon from Mayo 21/15, 21/6. In the Junior B Singles Paddy Delaney from Cashel was in a tough battle with James Dempsey from Galway and won in a tighjt match 21/19, 21/20. In the Silver Masters B Singles Christy Mc Grath from Carrick on Suir although losing the first game 21/12 made a great comeback to take the second 21/8 and took the tie break 11/8. In the Emerald Masters B Singles Kevin Buckley from Cashel dominated from the start and went on to win 21/4, 21/3. In the Golden Masters A Singles David Moloney from Cashel was never troubled and went on to an easy victory 21/2, 21/1. In the O70’s Singles Jim Ryan from Silvermines was up against Micky Walsh from Roscommon. He took the first 21/12. In a close second game Jim narrowly lost 21/19. He was beaten in the Tie Break 11/5. The All Ireland Finals will be played next Weekend in Croke Park. Best of Luck to all our Finalists.
Football Review Committee proposals to be trialled in 2025 League and Championship
Any playing rule enhancements proposed by the new Football Review Committee (FRC) will be trialled during next year’s Allianz Football League and Championship. The timeline for the project was revealed today by FRC Chairperson, Jim Gavin, who outlined that the Committee’s proposals will first go before Central Council for approval in early November this year and then a Special Congress in early December. GAA President, Jarlath Burns, says the decision to then trial the proposed playing rule enhancements in the competitive heat of both the Allianz Football League and Championship was made to ensure they’d be rigorously stress-tested. The stakeholders that will be consulted include GAA administration; club and intercounty players, managers and coaches; Coaching and Games staff; referees; media; supporters; and official partners and sponsors. As part of this listening exercise the FRC last week launched a survey which can be accessed by all stakeholders here – Football Review Committee Survey. The ultimate goal the Committee has set for itself is that whatever proposals they make help provide the best possible games experience for players and supporters alike. The Football Review Committee has already met eight times and intends to begin trialling potential proposals as early as July this year.
