Divisional Hurling Championships
Once again last weekend, the divisions took centre stage with a number of finals taking place. The action commenced on Friday evening with the meeting of Boherlahan Dualla and Upperchurch Drombane in The Mid Intermediate hurling final. The game which was played in Drombane resulted in a 4 point win for Boherlahan Dualla on a full time score of 1-12 to 0-11.
The action continued in Mid Tipperary on Saturday afternoon as Templetuohy was the venue for what turned out to be a highly entertaining and dramatic Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship final between Clonakenny and Gortnahoe Glengoole. This was a game that looked to be going in the direction of Clonakenny on several occasions, however Gortnahoe Glengoole showed a steely resolve to stay in the game and indeed they could have won it in regulation time. However, as the final whistle was blown, both sides were level so extra time was called for, but even that could not separate the sides so it was down to the dreaded penalty shootout to decide the game and it was “The Hoe” who emerged on top to claim the title by 4 penalties to 2.
Later on Saturday evening the tranquil village of Dolla was the destination for the players of Nenagh Eire Óg and Kiladangan as both sides went head to head in this years Hibernian Inn North Tipperary senior hurling final. Going into the game Kiladangan would have been seen as many people’s favourites to capture the title, however Nenagh had much different ideas as they stormed to victory by 0-21 to 0-17. Unfortunately, towards the end of the game, Jake Morris picked up a nasty injury as a result of an accidental collision and we wish him well in his recovery.
Also on Saturday evening in Clonmel Sportsfield, Killenaule and Carrick Swan met in the South Senior Hurling Final. Again this was a game that either side could have won, but in the end it was Killenaule who emerged victorious by a single point 1-20 to 2-16. The highlight of the game was Killenaules goal which was scored from a long range sideline cut.
The top class facilities in Littleton GAA pitch were on show on Sunday afternoon as the Moycarkey Borris club played host to the 2023 instalment of the Centenary Agri senior hurling final between Thurles Sarsfields and Upperchurch Drombane. Having lost out in agonisingly close fashion on the last number of occasions, Upperchurch Drombane were hoping to create a bit of history last Sunday and for long periods of the game it looked very possible. However as the game entered the duying moments it was Thurles Sarsfields who got the important scores that saw them win by a two point margin 0-18 to 0-16. During the game referee Sean Everard suffered an unfortunate head injury when he accidentally collided with a player, we wish him a speedy recovery and look forward to his return to the field as a referee.
The next divisional final of the weekend took place in Toomevara as Moneygall and Borrisokane met to decide the destination of the North Intermediate hurling championship. In front of a large crowd it was the Moneygall men who prevailed with a bit to spare in the end as they won by 3-15 to 0-11. The final divisional final of the weekend took place on Sunday evening in Nenagh when Lorrha Dorrha and Burgess met in the Savvy Kitchens North Tipperary Premier Intermediate Final. In what was a very high scoring and fast paced game, Lorrha Dorrha emerged victorious by 4-15 to 2-16.
