Allianz Football League
Our senior footballers travelled to Pearse Park in Longford last Sunday where they played the host county in Round 4 of the Allianz Football league. Tipperary played well below par in the first half of this game and only kicked only one point from play in the opening half; Paudie Feehan with a fine score. Longford played good football in that half with Dessie Reynolds, Robbie Smyth and Joseph Hagan among the scores as they went in at the break ahead by four points, 0-9 to 0-5. Tipperary obviously used the half time break to regroup, and they came out a different team for the second period. In the 38th, Teddy Doyle intercepted a pass to Peter Foy, he raced through shooting to the net with a powerful strike. Emmet Maloney and Donough Leahy got points to give Tipp a two point lead in the 41st minute. Andrew Farell put in a fantastic tackle in the 47th minute to deny Kevin Fahey who looked like he had a goal on his mind. Reynolds hit his effort onto the post in the 48th minute while Sean O’Connor’s shot was cleared off the line but advantage had been played and Jack Kennedy kicked over the resulting free. Tipp were reduced to 14 men in the 70th minute when substitute Conor Cadell was shown a second yellow card. With six minutes of stoppage time there was time for a Longford fightback. McGivney (free), Dylan Farrell, Rian Brady (2) and Oran Kenny were all on target as they rescued a point for Longford as the game finished level on a full time score of Tipperary 1-11 Longford 0-14.

Tipperary now face another tough away test next weekend as they travel to play Fermanagh at 1pm on Sunday, well in the knowledge that points on the league table are now crucial.
Allianz Hurling League
Croke Park was the destination for Liam Cahill and our senior hurling team last Saturday afternoon where they took on Dublin in Round 3 of the Allianz hurling league. Amazingly this was our first time to play a senior hurling game in Croke Park since the 2019 All Ireland final.
Tipperary seemed to start the game a little slower than they would have liked, but still found themselves ahead by the minimum margin at the break 0-14 to 0-13. The second half was much better as Tipperary upped the intensity and with Conor Bowe and Jason Forde raising green flags, the team went on to record their third win of the league on a full time score of 2-23 to 0-24.
Mick Burns Nenagh Eire Óg & Tipperary RIP
It was with deep sadness that Tipperary GAA learned of the passing of Mick Burns of Nenagh Eire Óg and Tipperary on Wednesday February 22nd last.
Mick played in 8 All Ireland senior hurling finals in a ten year period between 1958 and 1968, winning 5 of those finals. Mick also won a total of 7 Munster senior hurling titles during his career. Mick first came to the notice of the Tipperary hurling fraternity when he captured All-Ireland minor hurling honours’ with the Blue and Gold in 1955. It did not take him long to come to the notice of the Tipperary Senior Hurling selectors because in 1958 when the McCarthy Cup came back to the Premier County after a seven-year lapse the young Burns was a panelist thus winning the first of his five Celtic crosses.
Over the next ten years he claimed the number 5 jersey as his own. During that period he played in seven All-Ireland finals winning four in 1961, 1962, 1964 & 1965 and losing three in 1960, 1967 & 1968. Also during that period, Mick Burns won numerous National League titles, Oireachtas and Railway Cup medals. With his beloved Nenagh Éire Óg, he captured North Tipperary minor medals in 1951, 1953 & 1955 and North Tipperary Senior medals in 1957 & 1964. He is most fondly remembered for captaining the 1964 team. Those who had the privilege of seeing him play fondly remember him as one of the greatest defenders in Tipperary hurling history.
Mick remained a true and loyal supporter of his Club and county right up to his passing and he will be sadly missed by all. Tipperary GAA extends its sincere sympathies to his wife Pauline, sons Michael, Ronan and John, daughters Michelle and Ciara, his grandchildren and the extended family we offer our deepest sympathies.

2023 FBD Insurance County Leagues
The FBD Insurance County hurling and football league groups and first round draws have been published, with all remaining rounds due to be published next week.
The first rounds of the hurling will be played on Sunday the 19th of March with the first round of the football played the following week. The fixture programme was sent out to clubs on Thursday of last week and lists the dates of the leagues up to the finals. The full details of the various groups and the Round 1 draws can also be viewed on the Tipperary GAA website.
Tipperary Association Dublin Annual Awards Night
The doyen and stalwart of Tipperary hurling and Thurles Sarsfield’s clubman, Padraic Maher, has been chosen as The Tipperary Association Dublin’s Person of the Year for 2022 while the choice for the Hall of Fame Award is Tim Floyd, the recently retired Secretary of the Tipperary GAA Board.
The Awards function will be held in the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel, Newland Cross, Dublin on Friday 14th April 2023 commencing at 7.00 pm.

Tackling Bullying in the GAA
The GAA became the country’s first sporting organisation to launch a national anti-bullying campaign with the unveiling of the GAA Tackling Bullying Programme in March 2013.
GAA Tackling Bullying is a new training resource that the GAA developed in response to a growing awareness of the impact of bullying in society and particularly in sport.
The programme consists of a two-hour training workshop suitable for Coaches, Parents, Players and other Club personnel and also includes a range of publicity materials for Clubs.
The two-hour programme may be run in tandem and complimentary to any other educational and or community anti-bullying initiatives and is suitable for delivery at both adult and under age levels.
In recognition of the serious difficulties that bullying presents in sports organisations, this resource will be presented by the GAA to the Irish Sports Council so as to enable them facilitate other sports organisations who may wish to see the programme delivered in their own sports organisations.
