West Board Adjourned Convention:
The remaining West championship draws took place on Thursday last in Dundrum at the Adjourned Convention of the West Board.
The West Senior Hurling Championship has three teams this year, Eire Og Annacarty Donohill, Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams and Clonoulty/Rossmore. The competition will be run on a round robin basis with the top two teams qualifying for this year’s West Final. Kickhams will play Clonoulty/R in the opening game with Eire Og taking on the winners. Eire Og will play the losers of the first game in the last round of games. It is expected that the West final will go ahead the week ending of 31st July or August 7th as the County preliminary quarter finals are scheduled for the weekend of Aug 21st.
This year’s West Intermediate Hurling championship will be run on a straight knockout basis and will have 8 entrants. Arravale Rovers and Sean Treacys were first out of the hat setting up a re match of the 2013 West decider which saw the Tipperary Town side claim their first title in 16 years.
Last year’s beaten finalists Galtee Rovers have been drawn against 2014 champions Lattin/Cullen Gaels. Reigning champions Cashel King Cormacs will take on 2012 champions and neighbours Rockwell Rovers. The remaining quarter final sees Golden/Kilfeacle take on Intermediate newcomers Cappawhite. There will be an open draw for the semi-finals once all the quarter finals have been played.
There will be four teams in this year’s West Junior A Hurling championship with Eire Og Annacarty Donohill’s moving up to Junior A following their County Junior B Hurling title victory. The Eire Og men will be joined by current champions Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams, beaten County finalists Clonoulty/Rossmore and Emly. The competition will be run on a round robin basis with the top team in the group going straight to the final and the second and third team playing a semi-final.
There will be ten entrants for this year’s West Junior B Hurling championship. They will be divided into two groups. In a slight change from the norm the group winners will be rewarded with a semi-final spot with the 2nd and 3rd teams in both groups qualifying for the quarter finals. Group 1 Cashel King Cormacs, Golden/Kilfeacle, Solohead, Clonoulty/Rossmore, Cappawhite. Group 2 Arravale Rovers, Galtee Rovers, Rosegreen, Lattin/Cullen, Sean Treacys.
The West U21A Hurling championship will be run on a knockout/losers group basis. Arravale Rovers will play Golden/Kilfeacle in a preliminary round. Cappawhite/Sean Treacys will then open the defence of their title against the winners of this preliminary round game. The remaining round 1 game will see Galtee/Emly take on 2015 finalists Clonoulty/Rossmore.
The West U21B Hurling championship will be run on the same basis as the A championship.
Eire Og Annacarty Donohill and Cashel King Cormacs will meet in the preliminary round with the winners playing Rockwell/Rosegreen in the round 1. Lattin/Cullen Gaels will get the defence of their title underway against Kickham Gaels also in round 1.
The West U21 Hurling championships are planned to start in July with one or possibly two rounds being played.
The West Senior Football draw took place last weekend and saw Arravale Rovers drawn against Galtee Rovers and Aherlow Gaels against Eire Og Annacarty Donohill in the semi-finals. The West Senior Football final is currently planned for the week ending July 31st or August 7th.
Following Golden/Kilfeacle’s success in last year’s County Junior A Football championship they return to the Intermediate ranks for 2016, where they are joined with reigning champions Rockwell Rovers and Cashel King Cormacs.

The West Junior A football championship will see two groups of three with the top two in each group going to the semi-finals. Group 1 will consist of 2013 & 2014 Champions Rosegreen, West and County finalists Emly and 2015 West semi-finalists Clonoulty/Rossmore. Group 2 will consist of Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams, Cappawhite and 2012 champions Sean Treacys.
9 teams have entered this year’s West Junior B Football championship. The competition will be divided into two groups with the top two teams in each group qualifying for the semi-finals. West Champions and County finalists in 2015 Galtee Rovers have been drawn in Group 1 which will be a group of five. They will be joined by Golden/Kilfeacle, 2015 West finalists Cashel King Cormacs, Clonoulty/Rossmore and 2014 champions Eire Og Annacarty Donohill. Group 2 consists of Arravale Rovers, Lattin/Cullen and Solohead who have come down from Junior A and the final team in the group will be 2013 West and County champions Rockwell Rovers.
The U21A Football championship sees three entrants, 2015 champions Galtee/Emly, Arravale Rovers and Rockwell/Rosegreen. This will be run on a round robin basis with the top two teams qualifying for this year’s decider. The competition will start on Sunday February 14th when Arravale Rovers and Rockwell/Rosegreen meet in Golden at 12 noon.
The U21B Football championship will be divided into two groups of three with the top two teams in each group qualifying for the semi-finals. Group 1 Eire Og Annacarty Donohill, Cashel King Cormacs and Cappawhite/Sean Treacys. Group 2 Clonoulty/Rossmore, Golden/Kilfeacle and Aherlow Gaels.
The action starts in Group 1 on Sunday next February 7th when Eire Og and Cashel KC meet in Bansha at 12 noon. Golden/K and Clonoulty/R get the action rolling in group 2 a week later on Sunday February 14th when they meet in Cashel at 12 noon.
In the Minor A football championship, 2015 champions Galtee/Golden will be joined with Arravale Rovers, Clonoulty/Rossmore and Sean Treacys/Emly. The competition will be run on a round-robin basis with the top team qualifying for the final and the second and third teams playing in a semi-final.
The West Minor B Football championship will be divided into two groups of three with the top two in each group qualifying for the semi-finals.
Group 1 Knockavilla Donaskeigh Kickhams, Cappawhite Gaels and Aherlow Gaels
Group 2 Eire Og Annacarty Donohill, Cashel King Cormacs and Rockwell/Rosegreen.
The West Minor A and B Hurling draws will take place at a later date.
West Junior Hurling League:
The West Board will again run a Junior Hurling league in 2016. All Junior teams have been encouraged to enter early.
Referees:
At the recent West Board Adjourned convention the West Chairman asked clubs to provide more referees. He asked that any club who does not have a referee at present to provide at least one name and they will be provided the relevant training on the upcoming referee’s course.
National Football League:
Tipperary will host Clare in round 2 of Division 3 of the National Football League this Sunday February 7th at 2pm in Sean Treacy Park Tipperary Town.
