Easy win for Our Lady’s Templemore

Our Lady’s Templemore 6-27 Hamilton High School Bandon 0-3

Report by Paddy Ryan

This was a very one sided Dr Harty Cup game at Ballyagran played on Wednesday. From the start the winners gained control in the half back line and midfield area. Their forwards in regular supply took some very good scores. The
North Tipperary side aided by 3 All Ireland minor winning players Paddy Cadell, Lyndon Fairbrother and Brian McGrath were never troubled. They opened the scoring in the 3rd minute when Paddy Cadell and Lyndon Fairbrother worked well with Jerry Kelly who gave a good cross to Shane Doyle who pointed. Cadell and Fairbrother were involved in placing Brian McGrath for the next point. Templemore were 0-4 clear by the 8th minute. Bandon had their only first half score by Eoin Buckley after good play by Bill Murphy. Templemore had their first goal in the 11th minute when Neil Quinlan made a good clearance to impressive Andrew Ormonde who parted to the inrushing Jerry Kelly who set up Ray McCormack for the first of his three goals. Bandon were unable to make any real impression having some bad wides. Points for the winners by Lyndon Fairbrother, Andrew Ormonde, Stephen Nolan Shane Doyle and Brian McGrath made it 1-10 to 0-1 after 24 minutes. The winners added three more points with Ray McCormack taking a pass from Jerry Kelly in injury time and finding the net giving his side an interval lead 2-13 to 0-1.

There was no way back for Bandon on the changeover. Brian McGrath pointed a free with Bertie Butler replying for Bandon. Templemore added points moving 2-16 to 0-2 clear after 40 minutes. Good play by Andrew Ormonde led to another goal by McCormack with Brian McGrath and Lyndon Fairbrother combining well for Andrew Ormonde who goaled from close range 4-16 to 0-2. The winners were in complete control but hit five wides in a seven minute spell. Shane Doyle had a goal in the 51st minute with Ray McCormack adding a point 5 -18 to 0-2. The winners added nine more points with Gearoid O’Connor having Templemore’s sixth and final goal in the 60th minute. The only consolation Hamilton High School can take from the result is that they will have 12 of the starting 15 available for next years competition. Our Lady’s Templemore are now through to the last 8 where the draws will be made before Christmas.
