ALL IRELAND HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINAL

What has now become an eagerly awaited annual contest between Tipperary and Kilkenny takes place on Sunday next August 19 at Croke Park in the All Ireland senior hurling championship semi-final. Cathal McAllister of Cork, who refereed this year’s Munster final, will be in charge of the whistle. Tipperary and Kilkenny have met 22 times previously in the championship with Tipperary winning 13 times, Kilkenny 9 times and no draws. Recent history however favours Kilkenny with 4 wins in the last 5 encounters – 2002 and 2003 All Ireland semi-finals and the 2009 and 2011 finals compared with Tipperary’s single win in the 2010 final. Tipperary and Kilkenny have met 5 times in semi-finals with 3 wins for Tipp and 2 for Kilkenny. We wish the players and management every success for Sunday’s game and hope there will be a big Tipperary contingent present to support them.

ELECTRIC IRELAND ALL IRELAND MINOR HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP

Good luck to the Tipperary minor hurlers and management for their All Ireland semi-final against Galway on Sunday at Croke Park at 1.30pm. The game will be refereed by Tony Carroll of Offaly. It is Tipperary’s first All Ireland minor semi-final since 2009 when they were defeated by Kilkenny. Tipperary and Galway have met on 28 occasions in the minor hurling championship resulting in 18 wins for Tipperary, 8 for Galway and 2 draws. Their last meeting was in the 2006 All Ireland final when Tipperary won by 2-18 to 2-7. Galway’s last victory over Tipperary was in the 2003 semi-final by 2-19 to 2-16.

TEAM TIPPERARY TELETHON

Thanks to all those who supported the Team Tipperary Telethon on Saturday and since. Over €20,000 has now been raised with a target of €100,000 set for October 1st. This special fundraiser has been launched to support the training funds for the Tipperary inter-county hurling and football teams which have done so well and provided so much entertainment during their championship campaigns this summer. We are seeking 1,000 donations of €100 and each donor will receive free entry for 2 people to the county senior hurling and football finals and a 10% discount voucher for a purchase at the Tipperary GAA shop. A special discount card to selected retail outlets will also be made available to contributors. All contributors who have donated by September 1 2012 will be entered into a draw for 5 pairs of tickets for the All Ireland hurling or football final in 2012. The final closing date will be October 1 2012.
Thanks to the senior hurling and football players who manned the phones for the telethon on Saturday – Brendan Cummins, Lar Corbett, Hugh Coghlan and Peter Acheson along with senior hurling manager, Declan Ryan and minor football manager, David Power and county chairman, Sean Nugent. Anybody wishing to donate €100 can do so by calling 0504 60040 between 9.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday or online at www.tippgaashop.com, or via any county board, divisional or club officer. We are appealing to the generosity of supporters who are in a position to make a donation to do so in the interests of maximising the chances of success for our teams in the remainder of 2012 and on into 2013. We appreciate the generosity of our supporters and look forward to their continued support of Team Tipperary.
